[The method of quality function deployment --QFD-- in nursing services planning]. / O método desdobramento da função qualidade--QFD--no planejamento do serviço de enfermagem.

"Focus on the client" is the posture that must be adopted in order to offer quality products. Based on the Total Quality Management approach, the Quality Function Deployment method (QFD) is a tool to achieve this goal. The purpose of this study is to create a proposal for planning the nursing services following the steps and actions of this methodology. The basic procedure was to survey the necessity of 106 hospitalized patients. Data were deployed using the seventeen steps proposed. Results showed that the interaction is more important than the technique according to the clients and also that this method enables the implementation of quality in nursing care.

[The Brazilian Universal Health System and the delivery of nursing care in a Brazilian hospital]. / O Sistema Unico de Saúde e as ações do enfermeiro em uma instituição hospitalar brasileira.

There are few studies on the delivery of nursing services in hospitals participating in the Brazilian universal public health system (Sistema Unico de Saúde), which was put in place in 1988. This study, which examined possible changes in the delivery of these services since universal health care was implemented, was based on interviews carried out between July and September 1995 with 31 nurses working at a teaching hospital in the city of Ribeirão Preto, in the state of São Paulo. The nurses had begun working at the hospital between May 1980 and May 1987. Thematic analysis was used to assess their answers. According to the nurses, patients treated after the universal system was implemented have had more complex medical needs and a higher socioeconomic status. In addition, nurses reported an increase in the complexity of patient demands and in the variety of medical specialties offered by the hospital, as well as a decrease in the length of inpatient stays. Forty-six percent of the interviewees reported a change in the work done by nursing staff (for example, nurses have less time available for each patient). Not all of the problems the nurses mentioned are related to the public health system (understaffing is one example). It is essential that nurses examine national health policy and that they engage in the (re)construction of the practice of health care delivery. Nurses ought to understand the reality of their institutions and carry out a management process geared towards the expectations of patients and of health care workers.

[Changes in hospital nursing care due to the Brazilian Unified Health System]. / Modificações no atendimento de enfermagem hospitalar decorrentes do sistema único de saúde (SUS).

Considering changes in the Health System, this survey analyses the view of 31 nurses from a hospital institution linked to the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) in order to learn how they face the changes and their actions in 1995. To better understand the content of the interviews, authors use a thematic analysis proposed by BARDIN (1977). This analysis shows that some nurses recognize a different action after the SUS inclusion and others do not. However, when their actions are analysed as a whole, they are mainly directed to be a physician complementary action. The inadequate management by the nurse has contributed for a not entire nursing care. Authors suggest the management improvement of nurses in order to redirect nursing actions.

[The use of the quality function deployment (QFD) in the planning of care]. / Inserção do método desdobramento da função qualidade (QFD) no planejamento do serviço de enfermagem.

This research aimed at suggesting an alternative to achieve quality in Nursing Service through an exploratory-descriptive study with 114 patients. A planning model was has been elaborated the steps and actions outlined by the Quality Function Deployment Method. It was based on Total Quality Control management approach. Seventeen steps has been established in order to seek clients' needs and through successive deployment and priority, the main Quality Features and Procedures which supported standardisation and monitoring of proposed actions has been determined. The outcomes showed that this method is feasible for Nursing Service Quality Planning because it has enabled to review the context as a whole, providing major degree of certainty on decisions.

[Evaluation of a computer system by nursing students]. / Avaliação de uma disciplina de informática por graduandos de enfermagem.

This study was undertaken to investigate the opinion of nursing undergraduate students of the first year about the discipline "Informatic applied to health". Data were collected using a questionnaire with open and closed questions applied through three consecutive years (1989, 1990, 1991). The results showed that undergraduate students considered this course important. Student's expectations were related to the necessity to get familiar with computers. The mentioned critiques were related to the necessity of more time and equipments to support a better learning process.

[Informatics in nursing practice: a new challenge for the nurse]. / A informática na prática de enfermagem: um novo desafio para o enfermeiro.

The study does a critical analysis about the nurse's insertion and role in the informatic applied to health. It brings up the importance of nurse's envolvement in the implantation projects of the automatized systems information, the necessity of acquiriment knowledge and control about this technology so that it can be used as a useful work instrument, aiding the decision process and rationalizing the work, with the main objective to improve the nursing practice.

[The introduction of informatics in teaching institutions: the experience of the School of Nursing of Ribeirão Preto-University of São Paulo]. / A implantação da informática em instituições de ensino: experiência da Escola de Enfermagem de Ribeirão Preto-USP.

This study broaches something about the utilization of the computer in a school institution and about the implantation of the informatics and also the formation of the human resources in the Nursing School of Ribeirão Preto, from the São Paulo University. Besides this, some commentaries are related to the advantages and the precautions that have to be considered in the use of the applied informatics to the general teaching and specially to the nursing teaching.

[The computer as a support tool in nursing care and administration]. / O computador como instrumento de apoio na assistência e administração de enfermagem.

The introduction of informatic tools directed to the Assistence and Administration's support will be able to bring important benefits to Brazilian Nursing. Based on American literature the authors expose some specific applications of the computer in the assistence and administration's actives of nursing, demonstrating the various ways to these actives, in order otimize the assistence rended to the patient.

The administrative role of the nurse has been a polemic matter for the theory of nursing. The practice of nursing administration has been limited to meeting the employers and other professionals expectations. In this context the authors attempt to characterize their position towards the importance of the administration of the assistance scheme as one of the roles of the nurse.
