RESUMO

Decadal time-series derived from satellite observations are useful for discriminating crops and identifying crop succession at national and regional scales. However, use of these data for crop modeling is challenged by the presence of mixed pixels due to the coarse spatial resolution of these data, which influences model accuracy, and the scarcity of field data over the decadal period necessary to calibrate and validate the model. For this data article, cloud-free satellite "Vegetation Indices 16-Day Global 250 m" Terra (MOD13Q1) and Aqua (MYD13Q1) products derived from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), as well as the Land Parcel Information System (LPIS) vector field data, were collected throughout France for the 12-year period from 2006 to the end of 2017. A GIS workflow was developed using R software to combine the MOD13Q1 and MYD13Q1 products, and then to select "pure" MODIS pixels located within single-crop parcels over the entire period. As a result, a dataset for 21,129 reference plots (corresponding to "pure" pixels) was generated that contained a spectral time-series (red band, near-infrared band, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI)) and the associated annual crop type with an 8-day time step over the period. This dataset can be used to develop new classification methods based on time-series analysis using deep learning, and to monitor and predict crop succession.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Kidneys with multiple arteries are often transplanted. However, the long-term outcome of such kidneys recovered exclusively from deceased donors is not clear. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether use of renal grafts with multiple arteries affects long-term graft survival and function. METHODS: The outcomes of 259 consecutive kidney transplants between 1996 and 2000 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were divided into 2 groups, multiple renal artery graft recipients (n = 70) and single renal artery graft recipients (n = 189). Short-term complications and long-term outcomes (survival rates, blood pressure after transplant, creatinine clearance, and proteinuria levels at 1, 3, 5, and 7 years after transplant) were compared between the 2 groups. RESULTS: Early vascular complications were more common (P = .02) in multiple artery graft recipients (18.6%) than in single artery graft recipients (7.9%), mainly because of occlusion of a polar artery in grafts with multiple renal arteries (7.1%). Urologic complications were no more frequent in one group than in the other (5.7% vs 5.3%; P = .89). The 2 groups did not differ significantly (P = .33) in long-term graft survival, with a median follow-up of 9.05 years (range, 0.1-12.7 years). Mean (SD) for creatinine clearance (59.4 [22.6] vs 55.9 [20.3] mL/min; P = .47), proteinuria (0.77 [2.1] vs 0.4 [0.8] g/24 h; P = .19), and systolic blood pressure (133.6 [14.5] vs 133.7 [17.5] mm Hg; P = .85) did not differ significantly between the 2 groups 7 years after transplant. CONCLUSIONS: Kidney transplant with grafts containing multiple renal arteries rather than grafts with a single renal artery does not significantly influence patient and graft outcomes.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To report the natural history of 'burned-out' testicular tumour (a testicular tumour that has regressed spontaneously with no treatment and that generally presents at the stage of metastases). PATIENTS AND METHODS: We report five cases of burned-out testicular tumours to illustrate the clinical, radiological and histopathological features, and discuss the hypothesis of natural history of these neoplasms. RESULTS: The findings in the five patients tended to indicate that metastatic progression appears to induce spontaneous regression of the previous tumour site. Patients explored for extragonadal germ cell tumour present with various clinical features depending on the site of the metastases. CONCLUSION: Despite the controversial hypotheses of the origin of these tumours, extragonadal germ cell tumours should be considered to be metastases of a 'burned-out' primary testicular tumour that must be investigated. When a primary testicular tumour is detected, the testis must be removed, and standard chemotherapy yields good long-term results. The hypothesis of an immunological reaction against the tumour inducing the spontaneous necrosis of the primary tumour and possibly the metastases should be considered. Immunological screening should be proposed in patients to investigate this interesting model of spontaneous tumour regression.

RESUMO

Hemodynamic disorders in brain dead organ donors induce hypoxia, warm ischemia and finally tissue damage. A cold preservation period also induces tissue and cellular lesions. The two major modes of preservation are cold storage (CS) and hypothermic pulsatile perfusion (HPP). We aimed to compare the influence of each mode of preservation and their combination on oxidative stress, perfusion characteristics and tissue damage, after a period of warm ischemia. Rat kidneys which had undergone ischemia (0, 30, 60 min) were preserved either by CS (12, 24 h), or by HPP (12 h), or by a combination of both (HPP+CS, CS+HPP), in University of Wisconsin cold storage solution (UWCSS) at + 4 degrees C. During HPP, renal vascular pressure decreased then increased to reach 90 mmHg after perfusion for 7 h. If HPP followed CS, the mean pressure reached 200 mmHg, showing successive high amplitude peaks. HPP had a deleterious effects on tissue structure with tubular necrosis, and induced an increase in catalase (Cat) and a decrease in manganese superoxide dismutase (Mn SOD) and gluthatione peroxidase (GPx) activity. Copper zinc superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn SOD) activity was not reduced except with CS+HPP. During CS, we observed an increase in GPx, Cu/Zn SOD and Cat activity, a decrease in Mn SOD activity and no histological alterations in the kidney. CS induces a slight oxidative stress which is not important enough to induce major tissue damage. HPP with UWCSS induces a stronger stress, which overpowers the antioxidant defences, inducing tissue damage. The reperfusion of HPP with UWCSS emphasises the stress initiated by CS. In addition an increase in damage occurred in the CS + HPP group.
