RESUMO

The internal iliac artery supplies the pelvic organs, as well as the osseous and muscular components of pelvic walls. The goal of our study is a statistical analysis of the internal iliac artery and its branches compared to the data recorded in the Literature. A total of 100 internal iliac arteries were dissected, 60 arteries from male and 40 from female individuals. The results point out differences in Length and caliber between males and females. Comparative analysis of our data with similar studies shows differences in the length of the internal iliac artery in Romanian patients compared to English and Japanese people. In conclusion, our results suggest a vascular variability in different ethnic groups.

RESUMO

The mandible is the single mobile bone of the skull. It develops from the sixth week of the intrauterine life. The aim of our study is to confirm the variability of different mandibular landmarks in humans of different geographic areas. A number of 100 young persons from different geographic areas (Europe, Middle Orient, Asia and Africa) were selected. We used the classical measurement with the metric band and Baudeloque compass and analysed 50 cephalograms in frontal and lateral views. The focus of our measurements were the opening of the mandibular angle (gonion), ramal length and width, condylar diameters and the gonion-menton distance. In the European specimens, the opening of the mandibular angle is smaller than in the Asians. Africans had a lower value of the mandibular angle than Asians. Significant differences appeared in the gonion-menton distance measurements, as well. In conclusion, there is a positive correlation between the mandibular angle and the menton-gonion distance, respectively.

RESUMO

The formation of new vessels from endothelial cells, termed angiogenesis, is a complex process that is controlled by numerous paracrine factors. Vacularization of tumor tissue is a prerequsite for tumor growth and enables the dissemination of tumor cells throughout the body. Angiogenesis is classically assessed by counting the vessels or clusters of endothelial cells after selective immunohistochemical staining. In this study, vascularization of tumor tissue was evaluated quantitatively in 36 cases of stage I endometrial adenocarcinoma. The goal of this study was to evaluate whether the microvessel density correlates with the invasion potential of endometrial adenocarcinoma. The results show an increase in the number of endothelial cells at different stages in endometrial adenocarcinoma stage I and a strong positive correlation between the endothelial-to-stromal ratio and tumor grading.

RESUMO

To investigate the development of the frontal sinus size during life, we studied the planar morphometry in 60 frontal radiographs of patients of different age and gender. A professional software (Bersoft Image 4.02) was used to measure the frontal area of the right and left frontal sinuses on radiographic images. A frontal sinus was already evident in 4-year-old children. Unilateral or bilateral absence of the frontal sinus was seen in 5% of cases. The size of the sinusal area increases up to 19-year-old patients, synchronous with general craniofacial growth. In adults, individual differences in size and shape occurred in relation to environmental factors. In some elderly patients, osseous resorption led to an enlargement of the frontal sinus that might complicate surgical procedures performed in this area.

RESUMO

Experimental studies on the hypogastric arteries' ligation have pointed out significant changes in the vascular pattern correlated with the time past from the ligation, ligatured vessels, health condition of the patient. They consist in changes in the territory of distribution and the appearance of new anastomosis, that have been grouped in: anastomosis between the central and the peripheral part of the artery or its branches, between the peripheral and the aortic branches, between the uterine artery and subcutaneous abdominal artery, aortico-ovarian and reno-ovarian anastomosis. Based on studies of the vascular pattern in postsurgical state we may conclude;--the ligatured artery gives off more collateral branches than the non-ligatured one;--the vascular network in the ischemic territory is larger in postsurgical than in presurgical state and comes to normal in about 10-20 days;--the ligation of all genital arteries does not result in complete ischemia;--it is impossible to approach all the genital arterial sources, so hysterectomy remains the last choice;--in women with no obstetrical history the ligation does not affect the reproductive potential;--during pregnancy or in postpartum the ligation of the proximal part may stop the haemorrhage, but it results in infertility.

RESUMO

The physiology of the pelvic territory after the ligation of the hypogastric arteries may be resumed in the following phenomena: the absence of bleeding, absence of ischemia and changes in pelvic vascular pattern. The hemostatic effect is noticed immediately after ligation, when the bleeding is considerably diminished, permitting to finish the surgical act. The blood pressure has been measured before ligation, immediately and it increases after five minutes due to the changes in local characteristic impedance. The impedance profile is in concordance with geometrical modification of the microvascular network made to prevent the ischemia. The increase in blood pressure five minutes after ligation is the result of the anastomosis between the ischiatic artery and other branches of the hypogastric artery, remaking the capillary bed in the pelvic territory.
