RESUMO

Peripheral nerve injury (PNI) seriously affects people's quality of life. Stem cell therapy is considered a promising new option for the clinical treatment of PNI. Dental stem cells, particularly dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs), are adult pluripotent stem cells derived from the neuroectoderm. DPSCs have significant potential in the field of neural tissue engineering due to their numerous advantages, such as easy isolation, multidifferentiation potential, low immunogenicity, and low transplant rejection rate. DPSCs are extensively used in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, including for the treatment of sciatic nerve injury, facial nerve injury, spinal cord injury, and other neurodegenerative diseases. This article reviews research related to DPSCs and their advantages in treating PNI, aiming to summarize the therapeutic potential of DPSCs for PNI and the underlying mechanisms and providing valuable guidance and a foundation for future research.

RESUMO

Background@#/Aim: It is known that an imbalance in the intestinal f lora plays a crucial role in colorectal cancer (CRC), but the effect of food consumption patterns on the types of intestinal flora remains to be clarified. We aimed to analyze the associations between food intake and intestinal flora in healthy and CRC individuals. @*Methods@#Food intake data were recorded using the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). The composition and diversity of the intestinal flora detected by 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and the data were analyzed by R version 3.1.1 software. @*Results@#Higher intake of red meat or pickled foods, and lower intake of white meat, fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts were found in the CRC group compared with the healthy group. Higher levels of Fusobacteria and Proteobacteria, and lower levels of Firmicutes were observed in the CRC group. Partial correlation analysis revealed that the intake of fruits, beans, and nuts was negatively correlated with Proteobacteria and Fusobacteria, but pickled food was positively correlated with Fusobacteria (p < 0.05). Fish, beans, and nuts intake was negatively correlated with Escherichia (p = 0.01). Multiple regression analysis revealed that vegetable oil (odds ratio [OR], 0.26; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.13 to 0.82), vegetables (OR, 0.26; 95% CI, 0.10 to 0.64), eggs (OR, 0.26; 95% CI, 0.10 to 0.69), pickled foods (OR, 21.02; 95% CI, 6.02 to 73.45), and red meat (OR, 4.23; 95% CI, 1.68 to 10.60) had an impact on CRC risk. @*Conclusions@#The species and abundance of intestinal flora varies between CRC and healthy individuals and may be affected by their food preference.

RESUMO

Although gastric tumors have overlapping radiologic appearances, some unusual tumors may present specific imaging features. Using multidetector computed tomography (MDCT), with water as a negative oral contrast agent and intravenous contrast medium, can provide critical information for the diagnosis of gastric diseases. In addition, MDCT can evaluate the involvement of the gastric wall and extragastric extent of the disease, as compared with gastroenteroscopy and double-contrast upper gastrointestinal study. Regarding lesion location and size, enhancing and growth patterns, presence of calcification or fat, and involvement of the gastric wall and adjacent structures, CT may provide useful information. In this review article, we review the relevant literature and discuss the CT features and the histopathologic findings of different types of gastric lesions. The lesions are divided into benign (glomus tumors, schwannomas, leiomyomas, and lipomas), malignant (gastrointestinal stromal tumors, mucinous carcinomas, lymphomas, and carcinoid tumors), and tumor-like lesions (ectopic pancreas and bezoar). Familiarity with imaging appearances and pathologic findings can help physicians make an accurate diagnosis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of the proprioceptive sensibility reflexotherapy by tendon acupuncture needling at trigger points for patients with proprioceptive disorder of cervical vertigo. METHODS: Seventy-nine patients with proprioceptive disorder of cervical vertigo were randomly assigned into a treatment group (42 cases) and a control group (37 cases). Patients in the treatment group received the proprioceptive sensibility reflexotherapy with tendon acupuncture at trigger points in the neck. And those in the control group were given traditional traction, massage and intermediate frequency electro therapy. All the treatment was given for 2 courses, once a day and 10 days as a course. The cervical vertigo symptom and function, the joint position error (JPE) and stability index (ST) before and after treatment were observed in the two groups and the effects were evaluated. RESULTS: The cervical vertigo symptom and function were improved, JPE and ST decreased after treatment in the two groups (all P<0.05), with better results in the treatment group (all P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The proprioceptive sensibility reflexotherapy with tendon acupuncture at trigger points is effective for proprioceptive disorder of cervical vertigo.

RESUMO

With acupuncture depth as a perspective, some related issues are discussed in this paper. Firstly, the possible reasons of divergence on needling depth are explained. Secondly, by literature retrieval, the advantages and disadvantages of the clinical efficacy of deep needling and shallow needling are explored, and the essential value of shallow needling is emphasized in promoting acupuncture. Thirdly, due to the placebo acupuncture that led to the controversy of the curative effect of acupuncture, it is crucial to establish a method of modern system of scientific research which should be suitable for the development of acupuncture. Finally, the "cun" in acupuncture is inappropriate to transform into millimeter, and the standardization of acupuncture should focus on the improvement of curative efficacy. From the acupuncture depth, it is clear that there are plenty of problems in acupuncture, which could not only limit the development of acupuncture, but also affect the future of acupuncture.

RESUMO

Salmonella enterica serovar Cerro 87, which was isolated from a commercial egg-producing farm, has a phosphorothioated DNA backbone resulting DNA degradation(Dnd) during the pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) process. In this research, a gene deletion mutant XTG103 was engineered with the entire dnd gene cluster knocked out by double crossover using vector pKOV-kan, and lost Dnd phenotype corre- spondingly. We regulated the DNA phosphorothioation by heterogenous expression of dnd gene cluster with an isopropyl ?-D-1-thiogalactopyranoside (IPTG) inducible promoter PlacZ.

RESUMO

Objective To identify the genotypes of ESBLs-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates from the First Affiliated Hospital,Shantou University Medical College. Methods The MICs of 10 antibiotics were determined by agar-dilution against the clinical isolates of ESBLs-producing K.pneumoniae.PCR were performed with specific primers for blaTEM,blaSHV, blaCTX-M and blaOXA respectively.PCR products were cloned and sequenced. Results The results of PCR showed that a- mong the 83 strains of ESBLs-producing K.pneumoniae,75 were positive for blaTEM,41 positive for blaSHV,25 poitive for blaCTX-M,9 positive for hlaOXA.Three genotypes were found in 13 strains(15.7%),2 genotypes in 59 strains (71.1%) and single genotype in only 11 strains(13.2%).The genes of CTX-M-3,TEM-1 and SHV were found co-existent in 9 strains. The strains carrying 2 or 3 ESBL genes were more resistant to antibiotics than those carrying only 1 ESBL gene. Conclusions The genotypes of ESBLs-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae in this hospital are blaTEM,blaSHV,blaCTX-M and blaOXA. Most strains carry 2 or 3 ESBL genes.

RESUMO

Castleman's disease is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder with unknown underlying cause. Three histologic variants (hyaline-vascular, plasma cell and mixed) as well as 2 clinical groups (localized and multicentic) have been described. Most patients with the hyaline-vascular variant are asymptomatic other than localized pressure from the mass. Hyaline-vascular Castleman's disease was commonly found as intrathoracic presentation. Extrathoracic lesions have been reported in the retroperitoneum, mesentery, central nervous system, orbit, pelvis, neck, axilla, and skeletal muscles. Herein, we report a case of hyaline-vascular Castleman's disease mimicking a gastric submucosal leiomyoma that has rarely been reported in English literature review. The lesion was not actually developing from the stomach, however, the clinical presentation was mimicking a submucosal gastric tumor. Furthermore, the patient in this case had both chronic hepatitis C and splenosis. The relationship between the underlying diseases and the development of the CD deserves further investigations.

RESUMO

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe microvessel density(MVD), epithelial stromal vascular cuffing(VC) and expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in human cervical carcinomas and to clarify their significance in the invasion and metastasis of cervical carcinoma.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>VEGF and CD34 were stained immunohistochemically (SP) in 57 cases of cervical carcinoma (30 cases of squamous cell carcinoma, 20 of adenocarcinoma 7 of glandular and squamous cell carcinoma), 29 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and 16 cases of normal cervices, meanwhile, MVD and VC were also assayed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>There were significant differences among the above 5 groups for MVD P<0.01 . The VC pattern showed a significant difference between cervical carcinoma and CIN or control group P<0.01). The positive rates of VEGF in normal cervical epithelium, CIN, squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, glandular and squamous cell carcinoma were 18.8% 3/16, 82.8% 24/29), 93.3% 28/30), 100% 20/20 and 7/7(100%), respectively. There were significant differences between these cervical lesion groups and the control group(P<0.001). The MVD showed significant differences between the positive pelvic node metastasis and negative pelvic node metastasis P<0.05). There was no significant correlation between the expression of VEGF and the tumor diameter, clinical stage, pathologic grade and pelvic node metastasis.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The expression of VEGF may play an important role in the angiogenesis of cervical carcinoma. Degree of malignancy of cervical carcinoma has a close association with microvessel density.</p>
