RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate the association between estimated pulse wave velocity (ePWV) and mortality outcomes among individuals with hypertension. Methods and Results: Based on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1999-2018, a total of 14,396 eligible participants with hypertension were enrolled. The ePWV was calculated using the equation based on blood pressure and age. The mortality outcomes of included participants were directly acquired from the National Death Index database. The multivariable Cox regression analysis was used to examine the relationship between ePWV and mortality outcomes. Moreover, the restricted cubic spline (RCS) was also used to explore this relationship. Receiver operating characteristics curves (ROC) were adopted to evaluate the prognostic ability of ePWV for predicting mortality outcomes of patients with hypertension. The median follow-up duration was 10.8 years; individuals with higher an ePWV had higher risks of mortality from both all causes (HR: 2.79, 95% CI: 2.43-3.20) and cardiovascular diseases (HR: 3.41, 95% CI: 2.50-4.64). After adjusting for confounding factors, each 1 m/s increase in ePWV was associated with a 43% increase in all-cause mortality risk (HR: 1.43, 95% CI: 1.37-1.48) and a 54% increase in cardiovascular mortality risk (HR: 1.54, 95% CI: 1.43-1.66). CONCLUSIONS: This study indicates that ePWV is a novel prognostic indicator for predicting the risks of mortality among patients with hypertension.

RESUMO

Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) has a dominant function in energy conversion and storage because it supplies a most effective way for converting electricity into sustainable high-purity hydrogen. Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have shown promising performance in the process of electrochemical water oxidation (a half-reaction for water splitting). Nevertheless, HER properties have not been well released due to the structural characteristics of related materials. Herein, a simple and scalable tactics is developed to synthesize chromium-doped CoFe LDH (CoFeCr LDH). Thanks to oxygen vacancy, optimized electronic structure and interconnected array hierarchical structure, our developed ternary CoFeCr-based layered double hydroxide catalysts can provide 10 mA cm-2 current density at -0.201 V vs. RHE with superior long-term stability in alkaline electrolyte. We anticipate that the simple but feasible polymetallic electronic modulation strategy can strengthen the electrocatalytic property of the layered double hydroxides established in the present study, based on a carbon neutral and hydrogen economy.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the therapeutic effect of mastoid surgery for secretory otitis media with mixed hearing loss. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted of the data from 26 cases (43 ears) of secretory otitis media with bone conduction hearing loss collected from 2001 to 2008. Thirty-two ears were treated with mastoid surgery and myringotomy with insertion of ventilation tubes. All the patients received medications after the operation. RESULTS: All the patients showed obvious improvement after mastoid surgery. The average pure tone of air conduction hearing threshold was about 25 dB after the surgery, with the average pure tone of bone conduction hearing threshold of about 15 dB. The patients were followed up for 1-2 years during which no significant change in hearing was recorded, and no middle ear effusion in the tympanic cavity was found after removal of the ventilation tubes. CONCLUSION: Persistent secretory otitis media can be associated with mixed hearing loss, and mastoid surgery can significantly enhance the hearing level to produce positive therapeutic effects.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the clinical data of the hearing in otosclerosis patients and explore their association with the clinical manifestations. METHOD: A retrospective analysis of 88 otosclerosis cases (162 ears) was performed. Pure tone audiometry was performed in all the cases 1 to 3 days before the operation for speech analysis at the frequencies of 500, 1 k, 2 kHz and to determined the average pure-tone hearing threshold (PTA) and gas Bone gap (ABG). The incidence of carhart notch was observed in patients with simple conductive hearing loss and mixed hearing loss, and in the early, middle and late stage of otosclerosis. RESULTS: Carhart notch occurred at significant higher incidence in patients with simple conductive hearing loss and in early otosclerosis (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: For common otosclerosis, the lesion invades initially the vestibular window, round ligament and stapes floor, followed by the base of the cochlea, and therefore observation of the carhart notch may help determine the disease course.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of small fenestra stapedotomy with semiconductor diode laser and microdrill in patients with otosclerosis. METHODS: Twenty-six patients (29 ears) undergoing stapedotomy with semiconductor diode laser and 19 patients (21 ears) with microdrill were compared for the hearing results and complication rates. RESULTS: No statistically significant differences were found in postoperative speech frequency and high frequency pure tone average in closing the air-bone gap between the two groups. The ears treated by stapedotomy with semiconductor diode laser showed significantly better preoperative minus the postoperative air-bone gap and milder dizziness. CONCLUSION: In spite of the good hearing outcomes in both groups, small fenestra stapedotomy with semiconductor diodelaser can achieve better results and reduce the incidence of complications.

RESUMO

Calponin (CaP), a thin filament-associated protein, is thought to be involved in modulating smooth muscle contractile activity, but the role and mechanism keep unknown. In this study, trace amount of calponin (TAC) was found to obviously influence myosin in different states in Ca(2+)-independent manner, suggesting a high efficient interaction between TAC and myosin. In this assay, the lowest ratio of CaP vs. myosin was 1:10,000, with the concentration of CaP 10,000-fold lower than that used previously. Myosin phosphorylation, myosin Mg(2+)-ATPase activity and protein binding activity were detected to determine the effects of TAC on the myosin in different states. The amount of precipitated myosin that bound to TAC was used as the index to determine the interaction between myosin and TAC in binding assay. Our data showed that in the absence of actin, TAC significantly increased the precipitation of unphosphorylated myosin, Ca(2+)-dependently or independently phosphorylated myosin by MLCK, and stimulated the Mg(2+)-ATPase activities of these myosins slightly but significantly. However, no obvious change of precipitation of myosin phosphorylated by PKA was observed, indicating the relatively selective effect of TAC. In the presence of actin, the increase of myosin precipitations was abolished, and no obvious change of actin precipitations and actin-activated myosin Mg(2+)-ATPase activities were observed implicating the high efficiency of TAC on myosin being present in the absence of actin. Although we can not give conclusive comments to our results, we propose that the high efficiency of TAC-myosin interaction is present when actin is dissociated from myosin, even if CaP/myosin ratio is very low; this high efficient interaction can be abolished by actin. However, why and how TAC can possess such a high efficiency to influence myosin and how the physiological significance of the high efficiency of TAC is in regulating the interaction between myosin and actin remain to be investigated.

RESUMO

Calponin (CaP), a thin filament-associated protein, plays an important role in the regulation of smooth muscle contractility. It has been known that CaP inhibits the actin-activated myosin MgATPase activity via binding to F-actin, and stimulates myosin MgATPase activity via binding to myosin. Our recent study revealed a new phenomenon that trace amount of CaP (TAC) could influence the function of different states of myosin. Our data showed that in the absence of actin, CaP, even in the concentration of 0.0001 microM, significantly increased the precipitations of 1 microM unphosphorylated myosin, Ca(2+)-CaM dependently, and independently phosphorylated myosin by MLCK, and stimulated the MgATPase activities of these myosins slightly but significantly. However, no obvious change of precipitation of myosin phosphorylated by PKA was observed, indicating the relative selective effect of TAC. In the presence of actin, myosin, and TAC, the increase of myosin precipitation was abolished, and no obvious changes of actin precipitations and actin-activated myosin MgATPase activities were observed implicating the highly efficiency of TAC on myosin being present in the absence of actin. Although we cannot give conclusive comments to our results, we propose that the high efficiency of TAC-myosin interaction is present in the regulation of the function of myosin when actin is dissociated from myosin, even if CaP/myosin ratio is very low; this high efficient interaction between TAC and myosin can be abolished by actin. However, why and how TAC can possess such a high efficiency to influence myosin and how the physiological significance of the high efficiency of TAC is in regulating the interaction between myosin and actin remain to be investigated.

RESUMO

Paper-substrate delay fluorimetry (PS-DF) for three quinolones, i.e. Pefloxacin, Norfloxacin and Pepemidic acid, were given. Various factors affecting the PS-DF intensity of quinolones, including pH condition, drying time of sample etc., were studied in detail. The experiments showed that the PS-DF intensities of three quinolones in acidic solution were stronger than those in other conditions. The proper pH was 1.6. These quinolones have wide dynamic ranges, low limit of detection and relatively small standard deviations. The method was fast with, a small amount of sample and low cost. The recovery was 98.5%-104%. The determination results of the samples were satisfactory.
