RESUMO

The experiment was done on rabbits which were fed for 4-5 weeks a diet with sunflower oil or butter (0.2 gm/100 gm of weight). It was shown that oxygen supply of skeletal muscle could change due to structural of functional modifications of hepato-parenchymatous barrier caused by dietary factors.

RESUMO

The data obtained suggest that an increasing oxygen permeability of hematoparenchymatous barrier is a result of structural and chemical changes of biomembranes in rabbits after 7 days of starvation. A significant increase in desaturation of lipids and phospholipids, a decrease of cholesterol level in cytoplasmic and basal membranes were shown along with modifications of vascular endothelium of a metabolic type.

RESUMO

The experiments were carried out on two groups of rats with obstruction or cannulation of bile duct. Plasma was obtained from the tail venous blood before and 24 hours after operation. The bile duct obstruction caused hypercholesterolemia and considerable increase in the cholesterol content of low-density and very low-density lipoprotein (cholesterol bound to LDL and VLDL). Cannulation of total bile duct slightly increased CH-LDL+VLDL. The change in concentration of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol was insignificant in both models of bile disturbance while index of atherogenesis increased.

RESUMO

To measure the total cholesterol (CS) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLP CS), the blood collected from the finger is mixed with an equal volume of physiologic saline with EDTA and the mixture is collected into a polyethylene tube to separate the diluted plasma from the formed elements by centrifugation. Low- and very low-density lipoprotein CS are sedimented after addition of heparin and Mn2+ ions to diluted plasma. Comparison of the values of the total CS and HDLP CS in the capillary blood plasma and in the blood sera of 20 patients has shown no significant difference between the two methods. The reproducibility and accuracy of the micro- and macromethods, compared in examinations of the same pool of sera, did not differ. This permits the use of the suggested micromethod for the aforesaid measurements during screenings of the population.

RESUMO

The paper deals with the content of free and esterified cholesterol and also with the activity of cholesterol acetyltransferase and cholesterol esterase in the fraction of plasma membranes and liver subcellular fractions of rabbits fed a ration supplemented with cholesterol and sunflower oil. Under these conditions the content of cholesterol esters in the animals increases sharply in nuclei and cytosol and to a less extent--in microsomes and mitochondria. The activity of cholesterol acetyltransferase rises in the fractions of microsomes, nuclei and mitochondria being unchanged in the fractions of the plasma membranes. The activity of cholesterol esterase remains unchanged in all the fractions, being the highest in the fraction of the plasma membranes.

RESUMO

Experimental hypercholesterolemia was induced in cockerels at the age of 2-3 months by feeding rations with added cholesterol (1%) and sunflower oil (5%) for 4 weeks. It was found that in the liver the concentration of free cholesterol was 3 times as high while that of cholesterol esters was more than 10 times as high. The content of both free and esterified cholesterol in intestinal mucosa and intestinal smooth muscle increased considerably. Cholesterol of skeletal muscles which is present mainly by its free form increased insignificantly. A conclusion is drawn that the intestine parallel with the liver may play a homesotatic role in the body cholesterol control. In erythrocytes and in their nuclei cholesterol is in an unesterified form. Under hypercholesterolemia the content of cholesterol in erythrocytes remains normal, that evidences for its stability in the plasmic and nuclear membranes.

RESUMO

The quantity of bile secreted during 24 hours and the concentration of total bile acids in adult 11--12-months-old and aged 27--29-month-old rats were determined by cannulation of common bile duct. As revealed, the difference in bile acid production and in the concentrations of cholesterol fractions in the liver and plasma between the adult and aged rats on a standard diet was insignificant. But the excretion of bile acids was markedly elevated both in adult and aged rats on atherogenous diet. The level of total and ester cholesterol in the plasma was higher in aged rats than in adult animals.
