RESUMO

A 71-year-old man with a penile verrucous carcinoma presenting as a large cutaneous horn is described. Both verrucous carcinoma and penile cutaneous horn are relatively uncommon entities and have not been previously reported to occur concomitantly. A brief review of the relevant medical literature and methods of therapy is included.

RESUMO

A cutaneous horn is a keratotic, usually conical tumor, consisting of a spire of accumulated, cohesive stratum corneum. A number of primary lesions underlying the horny material are known to cause this condition. We present an unusual case of pyogenic granuloma clinically mimicking a cutaneous horn and suggest that it be included in the initial differential diagnosis as a rare cause of this entity. We also review various known causes of cutaneous horn.

RESUMO

A new case of infantile acropustulosis and a review of previous cases disclose an uncommon pustular dermatosis that occurs primarily in black male infants. This condition consists of intermittent and recurrent crops of intensely pruritic, 1- to 3-mm vesiculopustules that appear predominantly on distal extremities. The onset is from birth to 1 year of age, with spontaneous resolution occurring between the ages of 2 and 3 years. This eruption does not respond to routine therapies, and the only effective treatment has been dapsone. Because similar clinical features have been found in several other pediatric cutaneous diseases, we discuss the differential diagnosis.

RESUMO

Two patients with bullous pemphigoid treated with erythromycin demonstrated improvement. This response suggests that erythromycin may be a fairly safe supplemental drug which may allow a lower dose of systemic steroid, or may be of benefit when used alone or in combination with topical steroids in treating patients who are not ideal candidates for a systemic steroid. Erythromycin appears to have a significant anti-inflammatory effect, and possible mechanisms for this effect are proposed. One of the patients was a 4 1/2-year-old girl whose disease manifested several unusual features, making diagnosis difficult. A brief summary of differential immunofluorescent findings in childhood bullous diseases is also presented.
