Introduction: the clinical ability to modify the dentofacial form through orthodontic treatment, maxillofacial surgery, or plastic surgery requires an understanding of facial beauty, including the evaluation of facial aesthetics, proportions, and symmetry. Objective: to analyze the relationship between the components of the golden ratio and the facial parameter of students in the province of Chiclayo. Methods: the study population was represented by 88 students who met the following inclusion criteria: age between 17 and 28 years, both sexes, without orthodontic treatment, with class I malocclusion and complete dentition. A data collection form for craniofacial anthropometric measurements was designed. The examiners were calibrated, the stability of the intra- and inter-rater concordance was evaluated using the Cohen's Kappa coefficient. For the contrast of the hypothesis, the correlation coefficient square chi was used. For all statistical tests, the level of significance was 5 percent (p< 0.05). Results: 65.91 percent of all the patients were observed to have a divine proportion in their external dimension: 48.86 percent are brachifacial, 13.64 percent mesofacial, and 3.41 percent dolichofacial. 57.95 percent of the total number of patients presented divine proportion in its vertical relation: 42.05 percent are brachifacial, 10.23 percent mesofacial, and 5.68 percent dolichofacial. Regarding the harmonic profile, 70.45 percent of the total number of patients did not present a divine proportion: 53.41 percent are brachifacial, 10.23 percent are mesofacial, and 6.82 percent are dolichofacial. Conclusions: there is only a relationship between the golden ratio in its external dimension component and the facial parameter. The golden ratio was fulfilled in all its components, in a greater percentage in the brachifacial individuals, and there was a predominance of the golden ratio in the female sex(AU)

RESUMO

Preclinical Research The diterpene ent-dihydrotumanoic acid (DTA) was among the compounds isolated from Gymnosperma glutinosum (Spreng) Less (Asteraceae). There are no reports regarding the pharmacological effects of DTA. Cytotoxicity against cancer cells (1-250 µM), and the antibacterial (50-1400 µM) activity of DTA were evaluated using the MTT assay, and the minimum inhibitory concentration test, respectively. The antidiarrheal (1-100 mg/kg p.o.) and anti-inflammatory (2 mg/ear) effects of DTA were evaluated using castor oil and 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate, respectively. The antinociceptive and sedative effects of DTA (1-100 mg/kg p.o.) were evaluated using two models of chemically-induced nociception, and the pentobarbital-induced sleeping time test, respectively. The antinociceptive mechanism of DTA was evaluated using the acetic acid writhing test with inhibitors related to pain processing pathways. The effects of DTA (10-100 mg/kg p.o.) on locomotor activity were evaluated using the rotarod test. DTA lacked cytotoxic activity (IC50 > 100 µM) on cancer cells, possessed moderate antibacterial effects against B. subtillis (MIC= 175 µM), moderate antidiarrheal and anti-inflammatory effects, and minimal vasorelaxant effects. In the formalin test, DTA showed antinociceptive effects in both phases. In the acetic acid test, DTA showed antinociceptive activity (ED50 = 50.2 ± 5.6 mg/kg) with potency similar to that of naproxen (NPX; ED50 =33.7 ± 4.5 mg/kg) an effect blocked by naloxone implicating an opioid mechanism. DTA also exerted antidiarrheal activity and showed no sedative effects or changes in locomotor activity in mice. Drug Dev Res 78 : 340-348, 2017. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

RESUMO

The objectives of the present work were to screen topsoil samples collected from public squares in two cities within the Argentine Patagonia for the presence of infective forms of intestinal parasites and to examine the possible relationship between positive findings and the environmental, socioeconomic, and cultural conditions of that region. For this purpose we studied 13 public squares, their 13 custodians, and 44 family groups within their respective surrounding areas. Of the 226 topsoil samples analyzed, 44.3% proved positive for infective forms of intestinal parasites, with 17.3% of these containing more than one species. The frequency of appearance of positive samples was dependent on the season of the year (p < 0.001), while presence of the parasites was related to the soil pH (p < 0.05) but independent of the soil relative humidity (p > 0.05). Some of the organisms detected are associated with zoonoses. We observed the presence of Capillaria spp. and Spirocerca spp. under cool desert climatic conditions. Within the group of custodians we detected hematologic alterations one positive serology for toxoplasmosis and documented behavior conducive to risk of infection with the parasites found in those squares. Within the family group an acquaintance with parasitic zoonoses and their prevention was an inconsistent finding, with toxocarosis and toxoplasmosis being the diseases associated with the greatest degree of ignorance. Furthermore, we consider the failure to de-parasitize pets and the practice of feeding them with raw meat, as typically found in our family survey, to be factors contributing to a greater likelihood of public square contamination. From the results obtained here, we propose a spatial organization approach for the purpose of detecting zones at risk of contracting zoonotic parasitoses within urban environments.
