RESUMO

The paper is concerned with evaluation of the activity of the intracellular enzymes of lymphocytes--succinate dehydrogenase and alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase of mitochondria, in patients with peptic ulcer running a different course to define their importance in the disease prediction. Aggravation of peptic ulcer was found to result at first in marked activation of lymphocyte energy supply including that at the expense of the formation of new cellular populations. Later the count of lymphocytes with a high enzymatic activity was found to decline together with a reduction of enzymatic activity. The retention of the indicated changes after ulcer healing serves a prognostically unfavourable sign of the further disease course.

RESUMO

The myeloperoxidase of peripheral blood neutrophils revealed by the cytochemical method was investigated in a group of patients with ischemic heart disease (24 men, mean age--51) treated with HBO (10 sessions, under 1.5-1.7 ata, for 60 min) prior to and after each HBO session. The ECG monitoring was performed during these sessions as well. A correlation analysis of the peroxidase index (mean enzyme content in 100 cells), total peroxidase activity and tension index (obtained by computer analysis of cardiac rhythm changes) was carried out in that group of patients. A close correlation was found between the total peroxidase activity and tension index.

RESUMO

Metabolic activity of lymphocytes was evaluated in ulcer patients with different acid-production function. Measurement of succinic dehydrogenase and alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase of the mitochondria showed that acid production activity brought about variations in the activity of alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase suggesting activation of a reserve path of the cell energy supply. The data obtained on the strain of the local defence and repair processes in gastric mucosa of patients with ulcer running with hyperacidity especially upon cicatrization of the lesion, provide a basis for the disease outcome.

RESUMO

53 patients with various heart diseases subject to cardiopulmonary bypass surgery have been examined. To assess the state of tissue metabolism indexes of arterial and mixed venous blood oxygen balance, lactate concentration, the activity of energy-dependent lymphocyte enzymes and indexes of free-radical plasma processes have been studied. It has been shown that cardiopulmonary bypass in conditions of marked normobaric hyperoxidation (PaO2 more than 300 mm Hg) is accompanied by tissue metabolism intensification and disturbance. Inability of protective antioxidant mechanisms to react to the intensity of free-radical formation due probably both to surgical stress and cardiopulmonary bypass procedure performed in hypothermia leads to negative hyperoxidation effect on metabolism even in conditions of adequate perfusion. A relatively high dependence of the frequency of myocardial depression on the degree of hyperoxidation suggests that myocardial reperfusion by blood with high PaO2 upon anoxic arrest is advisable in hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass with attenuated activity of the antioxidant systems protecting cells from oxygen free radicals.

RESUMO

The authors discuss the reaction of central and peripheral hemodynamics to HBO and therapeutic effect of superoxygenation on ischemic tissues. HBO not only improves the metabolism in the ischemic areas but also activates microcirculation in such areas with a reduced blood flow. The experience of the largest Soviet HBO center covers more than 3,000 cases of peripheral vascular disorders.

RESUMO

In 120 patients with diabetes mellitus the indices of the blood and erythrocytic acid-alkali balance, glycemia level, blood lactate and pyruvate concentrations, the activity of serum malate dehydrogenase and lactate dehydrogenase, as well as of succinate dehydrogenase and alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase in lymphocytic mitochondria were studied. A remarkable difference of the indices examined, depending on the disease severity, duration or compensation state of carbohydrate metabolism, was noted comparatively to those of normal. Insulin therapy and the diet No. 9, combined with hyperbaric oxygenation, was accompanied by a rapid (within 12 to 18 days) compensation of carbohydrate metabolism and good dynamics of all the tests. The results obtained are indicative of a significant improvement of the tissue metabolism both on the glycolysis level and in the cycle of tricarboxylic acids.
