RESUMO

The goals of the treatment of paranasal sinuses mucocele are the relief of the symptoms due to compression and the prevention of recurrence. Because of the benignity of the pathology, it is mandatory to choose the approach that minimizes the surgical trauma. When an anterior clinoid mucocele is found, the conventional approaches are the trans-nasoethmoidal, the subtemporal or the pterional ones: we think that as a really mini-invasive approach, the transnasal endoscopy may be proposed. Anterior clinoid localization may be reached by a trans-sphenoidal way and treated by endoscopic microsurgery with a very low morbility. This paper deals with a case of anterior clinoid mucocele treated by this way with good anatomic and functional results and stresses the importance of the pre-operative imaging (CT/MR) allowing one to make a sure diagnosis and to choose the cases suitable for this surgical approach.

RESUMO

The efficacy of verapamil CR in migraine prophylaxis has been tested in an open study with 64 patients. The group of patients showed a significant decrease of the frequency, duration and severity score of their headache. All patients were treated for 3 months; thirty patients extended the treatment for 6 months without further improvement. In conclusion, verapamil CR is a useful drug with few side effects for migraine prophylaxis.

RESUMO

19 patients with episodes of transient global amnesia (TGA) were studied, with special reference to the laboratory and instrumental findings (mainly EEG and CT scan). A high proportion of subjects had several risk factors for cerebrovascular disease or CT abnormalities.

RESUMO

The authors report 11 cases of Tolosa-Hunt syndrome, a painful ophthalmoplegia due to an aspecific, benign, steroid-responsive inflammation of the cavernous sinus. Other causes of painful ophthalmoplegia, diagnostic findings and etiological hypothesis are discussed.

RESUMO

The authors evaluated hematological side effects in 410 epileptic patients under chronic therapy. The aim of the study was to find out the most suitable parametres for preliminary screening. Values outside the normal range were seen in patients treated with multiple drug therapy and in patients receiving antiepileptic drugs from 3 years at least. The following tests were the most frequently influenced: GOT, GPT, alcaline phosphatase, protrombin time, fibrinogen.

RESUMO

We recorded spike activity induced by i.p. penicillin injections in eight rats, repeating the experiment five times per each rat, at 48-h intervals. Spike frequency was significantly reduced in all sessions subsequent to the first, without changes in penicillin blood concentrations. The penicillin model of epilepsy is therefore not advisable in studies on antiepileptic drugs with a crossover design.
