RESUMO

A complex examination of 56 patients with an active stage of acromegaly was performed according to the scheme, involving clinical and electroencephalographic studies as well as the investigation of somatotropic secretion by means of functional tests with thyroliberin and parlodel. Two main forms of acromegaly, i.e. "hypophyseal" (hypothalamus-independent) and hypothalamic (central) were revealed, differing in the disease course, clinical pattern, results of the electroencephalographic examination and response to thyroliberin and parlodel functional tests.

RESUMO

Theralen effect on the brain electric activity was studied in 12 patients with Icenko-Cushing's disease and 8 persons with the hypothalamic syndrome. Theralen was shown to potentiate theta-activity in patients suffering from the diseases of short duration in contrast to healthy subjects. Patients with Icenko-Cushing's disease showed a delayed reaction to theralen as compared to subjects with the hypothalamic syndrome. Theralen was ineffective in both groups of patients suffering from above diseases for over 3 years.

RESUMO

The influence of the L-DOPA preparation on the bioelectrical activity of the brain was studied in 15 patients with Itsenko-Cushing's disease and in 12 patients with diencephalic obesity. L-DOPA administration caused an increase of the theta-rhythm index in the anterior leads in comparison with the initial recording, although the periods of detection of this elevation differed in various patients. No changes of the character of the EEG recording during the test with L-DOPA in comparison with the background recording was revealed in the patients with Itsenko-Cushings disease.

RESUMO

Patients (45) aged from 19 to 52 years with the syndrome of idiopathic edema were examined by the electroencephalographic method. The great majority of the patients displayed a distinct increase of the theta-activity with some reduction of the alpha-activity. Such shift in the frequency composition could be interpreted as a reflection of the involvement of diencephalic structures into the pathological process. An extreme irregularity of the frequency and the amplitude of the main rhythm was revealed in 14 of 45 patients on the EEG; this, in combination with clinical symptoms, led to a supposition that the regulatory functions of the hypothalamus were disturbed.

RESUMO

Genetic nanism is a widespread phenomenon. Only familial forms constituted 22.8% of the cases of hypophysial and cerebral nanism. A total of 32 patients belonging to 15 families with repeated cases of the disease were examined clinically and electroencephalographically. In genetic hypophysial nanism clinical peculiarities of the disease and the EEG indices were similar within the limits of the same family and showed distinct differences in the patients belonging to different families. The differences are determined chiefly by the level of sex maturation. The EEG in genetic hypophysial nanism was identical to that in the total group of patients with the hypophysial nanism without any organic cerebral pathology. The EEG of the sexually immature patients suffering from nanism was characterized by the immaturity features both in the prepubertal period and in the course of the whole following life, whereas in the patients with a spontaneous sexual development the EEG corresponded to the age criteria at any age. The EEG examination of the patients with hypophysial nanism at the prepubertal period permits to prognosticate their subsequent sexual development.

RESUMO

For the purpose of studying the functional condition of the CNS the authors recorded the electrical activity of the brain (by the method of electroencephalography) in parallel with determination of the adrenal cortex function in patients with Itsenko-Cushing disease to whom diphenin was prescribed. Results of investigations showed reduction of the adrenal cortex function in patients with Itsenko-Cushing disease under the effect of diphenin to occur in parallel with reduction of irritation in the brain structures, detected by EEG. The data obtained confirmed an important role played by disturbances of the nervous regulation mechanisms in the appearance of this pathology.
