RESUMO

The study failed to show a stimulating effect of hyperbaric oxygen on growth and metastatic spreading of sarcoma 37 transplanted subcutaneously or intravenously to female SHR mice, melanoma B16 intramuscularly transplanted to female C57/Bl mice and methylcholanthrene-induced tumors in female albino noninbred rats. An insignificant inhibitory effect of hyperbaric oxygen on transplantable tumor growth and development of inducible ones in experimental animals was observed.

RESUMO

The results of treatment of 164 out-patients with far advanced malignancies for chronic pain syndrome are discussed. It was found that subarachnoid, peridural and sacral blocks with alcohol, phenol glycerine and carbolic acid can relieve pain for a long time, improve general condition and save narcotic analgetics. The most effective proved to be peridural block by phenolglycerine which induced analgesia in 67% of cases and maintained it for 45 days.

RESUMO

Present work is based on the data of experimental studies on the influence of inhalatory (ether, chloroform, halothane and methoxyfluorane) and intravenous anaesthesia (neurovegetative block and neuroleptoanalgesia) upon the tumour growth and metastasization as well as the level of corticosteronemia in surgical trauma. It has been revealed that the narcosis may change the course of the tumorous process both by means of its action on the endocrine part of the organism-tumour system and immediately (halothane) due to its cytostatic action. Obviously, anaesthesia may appear one of the factors influencing the results of multifactoral therapy of tumorous diseases.

RESUMO

Abundant experimental data suggest the potentiating influence of hyperprolactinemia on the development, progression and dissemination of breast cancer, whereas hypophysectomy, immunologically- and pharmacologically-induced inhibition of prolactin has an antitumor effect. Moreover, hyperprolactinemia is caused by any kind of stress (surgical one included) as well as phenothiazine and butyrophenone treatment for neuroleptanalgesia. These findings encouraged intraoperative radioimmunologic assays of blood-prolactin levels in endometrial and breast cancer patients. The advantages offered by treatment with specific inhibitors of prolactin secretion aimed at reducing hyperprolactinemia on the day of surgery are discussed.

RESUMO

The modifying influence of anaestesia on tumourigenic process (its stimulative or inhibitory effect upon tumour and metastasis growth) was established. It may occur indirectly, i.e. through endocrine link of the host-tumour system, and due to cytostatic effect of the anaesthetic drug (fluothane in particular).

RESUMO

The investigation of 22 patients has established the concentration of fluothane in the blood to influence the catecholamine content and the cardio-vascular system. Its increased concentration in the blood results in certain decrease of the level of general catecholamines in the blood, decreased value of systolic arterial pressure and increased frequency of cardiac contractions.

RESUMO

A comparative quantitative investigation on the level of 11-oxycorticosteroids (11-OCS) in the peripheral blood and on morphological changes in the lymphoid tissue has been performed on intact and adrenalectomized rats after 3 hours' ether and halothane anesthesia. Three hours after the ether anesthesia, the level of 11-OCS increases more than twice, halothane is not a stress-producing anesthesia. After the ether anesthesia and essential devastation of the lymphoid tissue occurs, resulted from degeneration and a decreasing proliferative activity of the cells. In the adrenalectomized animals, both after halothane and either anesthesia, there are no essential morphological changes. Thus, certain significant differences between hormonal and morphological changes after either the halothane anesthesia have been revealed, as well as the role of the adrenal cortex in this activity.

RESUMO

A comparative assessment was made between different kinds of anesthesia used with diagnostic purposes in fibroscopy such as anesthesia with fluothane--nitrous oxide, anesthesia with trilene, the sombrevin--seduxen intravenous anesthesia and local anesthesia. Observations were performed in 127 patients. The authors consider local anesthesia to be the method of choice in diagnostic fibrobronchoscopy. In cases when the local anesthesia can not be used it is expedient to employ the intravenous sombrevin--seduxen anesthesia.

RESUMO

The end results of therapy of 346 patients with lung tumors, treated with surgery alone, are compared, depending on the type of general anesthetic agent used. Anesthesia was induced with ether in 220 patients, halothane in 103, and neuroleptanalgesia in 23 cases. All the anesthetic agents were administered in a mixture with nitrous oxide. The basic characteristics of patients, who were divided on the basis of anesthetic agent, were identical. The results show that type of anesthesia during surgical treatment for lung tumor has an effect on the end results of therapy, and the best prognosis is ensured when halothane is used. Further analysis established that the end results of surgery with halothane anesthesia are improved, when partial resection rather than radical pneumonectomy is performed, at stage 2 of malignant disease and when metastases into regional lymph nodes are absent. Such improvement may be explained by stimulation of the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal system as well as a relatively lower degree of immunosuppression and development of conditions more adverse for implantation of circulating tumor cells than in the case of ether or neuroleptanalgetic anesthesia.

RESUMO

Method of correlation and regression analysis in a computor was used which enabled the authors to make a formula of the relationship between the development of complications after radical operations for carcinoma of the colon and rectum (583 patients). The authors have made a classification of the degrees of complication risk which is sufficiently simple for practical use.

RESUMO

The functional state of the adrenal glands diring surgical and combination treatment was examined in 38 radically operated patients with pulmonary cancer. Irradiation of lung cancer patients was found to stimulate the adrenal glands activity followed by reduction of their potentalities, manifested in a less marked increase of the catecholamines level and decreased 11-OCS level in blood during surgical treatment.
