RESUMO

Data from several clinical samples and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory--2 standardization group are presented to familiarize the reader with response patterns of different groups on a new validity scale designed to assist in the identification of exaggeration or fabrication of psychological disturbance. Sensitivity-specificity analyses are included along with suggestions for use of the F(p) Scale with other validity scales. Cautions about setting single cutoff scores are also discussed.

RESUMO

Calcium entry across the microvillous membrane of the human placental syncytiotrophoblast is the first step in the transfer of this important nutrient to the fetus. Calcium uptake by isolated microvillous membranes was time dependent. Equilibrium uptake was very much greater than could be explained by equilibration of the vesicle space with medium, indicating that calcium is bound to internal sites. Addition of the ionophore A23187 greatly increased the rates of influx and efflux, indicating that transport across the plasma membrane is rate limiting in entry. Concentration dependence data for calcium transport at 4 s fit well to a Michaelis-Menten equation having two saturable sites and diffusion. Calcium entry by both transporters was unaffected by calcium channel blockers but was strongly inhibited by the group II metals. The distinct inhibition constant values for strontium inhibition provided additional evidence for two transporters. Calcium binding fit well to a single-site model saturable in the micromolar range. In vivo, the saturable transport processes may mediate calcium entry into the syncytiotrophoblast and binding may regulate concentration within the placental microvilli.

RESUMO

Four new MMPI Scales were constructed to identify Eysenck's personality factors of psychoticism, extraversion, and neuroticism as well as a lie score. The scales showed good construct validities against the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire and the Friedman Overlap Scales developed from items in the MMPI. The study also supported the construct validity of the Friedman overlap scales.

RESUMO

A new scoring procedure to be used with Spraings' technique for administering the Bender-Gestalt test in a multiple choice format is presented. Scoring weights are used instead of simply scoring each item right or wrong. The evidence presented suggests that this method of scoring would increase the value of Spraings' test in the diagnosis of perceptual deficits.

RESUMO

The Sixteen Personality Factors Questionnaire (16PF) was administered to 69 subjects. Each subject was asked to rate himself on the 16 personality factors on the 16PF. The 16PF scores and the self-ratings were compared by canonical analysis. Three significant relationships were identified. The relationships primarily involved indices of social interaction from the 16PF and indices of internal traits from the self-ratings.
