RESUMO

The discharge of a large amount of flotation reagents wastewater can cause significant environmental pollution. In this study, NiO/La-NaTaO3 nano-photocatalyst was prepared and applied to degrade synthetic flotation reagent ammonium dibutyl dithiophosphate wastewater. Various characterization results confirmed the successful synthesis of NiO/La-NaTaO3, and UV-vis DRS analysis revealed a band gap of 3.96 eV for 4 wt% NiO/2.5% La-NaTaO3. Under UV light, the degradation rate of 20 mg 4 wt% NiO/2.5% La-NaTaO3 photocatalyst reached its optimum within 4.5 h at pH=3, exhibiting a 1.45 times improvement compared to pure NaTaO3. Radical trapping experiments and EPR results showed that ·OH and·O2- showed major contribution to the degradation. Furthermore, photocatalytic mechanisms and toxicity evolution were investigated, demonstrating the potential application of photocatalytic methods for treating flotation reagent wastewater.

RESUMO

Photocatalytic technology is attracting considerable attention for the advantages of low cost and environmentally friendly properties. In this study, a novel photocatalyst PW9@ZnO/Ag (PZA) was synthesized hydrothermally and characterized by a variety of means. The results indicated that ZnO and Ag NPs were successfully decorated and uniformly dispersed on PW9 to form the composites. The prepared PZA was applied in the degradation of simulated butyl xanthate (BX) beneficiation wastewater both under the UV light and the xenon lamp, and a maximum degradation of 99.83% was obtained under the visible light with 10% ZnO loading, 1 g/L PZA, initial BX concentration of 20 mg/L, and pH 5.5. The PZA was recovered and reused for 5 times, and the degradation rates remained above 70%. Superoxide radical (·O2-) was the main active species for the photocatalytic degradation of BX. The experimental results demonstrate that PZA is a promising photocatalyst, making it a prospective strategy to overcome current challengers in the use of xanthate degradation and beneficiation wastewater treatment under visible light.

RESUMO

The potential of low-cost bioenergy recovery from peanut shell was limited for its complex cellulose structure. In order to enhance the total reducing sugar (TRS) yield for bio-H2 production, peanut shell with heat (HT, 50-100 °C) or freezing pretreatment (FT, -80 to 0 °C) under different duration (0.5-12 h) was investigated. For uncovering the enhancement mechanisms, morphological feature and crystalline structure were analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). The optimal pretreatment of 50 °C for 12 h was obtained with TRS yield increased 73.6%, while the H2 yield of 1.25 ml/mg-TRS was peaked with pretreatment at -80 °C. The SEM and XRD further demonstrated that mechanisms of HT and FT were realized through different ways, which were cracking and collapsing in HT, and delamination and peeling in FT, respectively.

RESUMO

As emerging contaminants of global concern, nanoplastics are significantly potential carriers of hydrophobic organic compounds in aquatic and soil environment. However, little is known about the interactions between the transports of nanoplastics and organic contaminants in porous media. In this study, the cotransport of naphthalene with polystyrene nanoplastics (PSNP) in saturated sand columns as influenced by the PSNP/naphthalene ratio and ionic strength (IS) was investigated. The presence of PSNP dramatically enhanced the mobility of naphthalene at low IS (0.5 mM), but such effect was prohibited at high IS (5 mM and 50 mM). The mobility of PSNP in the sand column was higher when it was solely exist in the pore-water than that when in the presence of naphthalene, because of the charge-shielding effect. This work showed that the coexistence of PSNP and naphthalene would influence the mobility of each other in the saturated porous media, which highly related to their concentration ratio and IS levels.

RESUMO

An anaerobic photosynthetic bacterium, with chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), total phosphorus (TP) and sulfide (S2-) simultaneous removal ability, strain SU6, was isolated and identified as belonging to Ectothiorhodospira magna. Its removal efficiencies were simultaneously evaluated in batch culture and influenced in sequencing batch culture. The maximum COD, NH3-N, TP and S2- removal rates of 93.04%, 86.70%, 37.55% and 99.99% were obtained in batch culture with an initial pH 8.0 at 35 °C after 72 h. The simultaneous removal efficiency was enhanced in sequencing batch culture, and 789.27 mg/L COD, 68.91 mg/L NH3-N, 70.20 mg/L S2- and 5.26 mg/L TP were removed by the end of the last cycle within 24 h. This was the first time of reporting contaminants' simultaneous removal by a pure-cultured photosynthetic bacterium. The experimental results demonstrate that E. magna can efficiently serve as a good candidate in anaerobic wastewater contaminants' simultaneous removal, and maybe as another model anaerobic photosynthetic microorganism for water purification investigations.
