[The role of the sweat glands in excreting antimony from the body in people living in the biogeochemical provinces of the Fergana Valley]. / Rol' potovykh zhelez v ékskretsii sur'my iz organizma liudei, prozhivaiushchikh v usloviiakh biogeokhimicheskikh provintsii Fergansko i doliny.

The features of antimony excretion by sweat glands were studied in normal subjects and patients with chronic bronchitis, chronic gastritis, chronic nephritis and calculous pyelonephritis, visceral leishmaniasis, living in some biogeochemical provinces of Fergana Valley. A micromethod based on the coloured reaction of the element with brilliant green was worked out to detect antimony in sweat. Sweat antimony elimination was proved to play a significant role in health and disease. The workers engaged in antimony production, the inhabitants of antimony biogeochemical regions should have their sweat excretion tested to score the Sb level. It is recommended as an additional test for screening and controlling the effects of visceral leishmaniasis chemotherapy by solusurmine in patients with kidney disorders.

[The characteristics of the acid-forming function of the stomach in patients with duodenal peptic ulcer combined with intestinal parasitoses]. / Osobennosti kislotoobrazuiushchei funktsii zheludka u bol'nykh s iazvennoi bolezn'iu dvenadtsatiperstnoi kishki, sochetaiushcheisia s kishechnymi parazitozami.

The paper summarizes the results of the studies of gastric secretion in patients with duodenal ulcers alone and in patients with duodenal ulcers accompanied by gastric parasitoses. The findings indicate that gastric secretion values in patients with duodenal ulcers accompanied by gastric parasitoses tend to decrease. The features of gastric secretion in such patients should be taken into consideration during their pathogenetic treatment (H2-blockers of histamine receptors).

[Tridazol efficacy and tolerance in the treatment of lambliasis]. / Effektivnost' i perenosimost' tridazola pri lechenii liamblioza.

The data on the clinical trials of the antiprotozoan agent tridazole-500 are presented. Drug parasitocidal activity and tolerance have been determined. The treatment was performed in 31 patients with lambliasis. A satisfactory drug tolerance and a 77.4% efficacy have been established.

Calculations of economic loss costs due to procedures for helminth detection and the out-patient treatment of recognized cases of enterobiasis, hymenolepiasis, taeniasis, ascariasis, trichocephaliasis in the Uzbek SSR in 1985 were made as were the costs of inpatient treatment in the specialized clinics in 1986 with account for the loss due to the related decrease in the national output and payments for disability. Their total turned to be about 1.8 million rubles.

[Efficacy and tolerance of a nematocide used in treating enterobiasis]. / Effektivnost' i perenosimost' nemotsida pri lechenii énterobiosa.

Paper presents the data on clinical assessment of parasitocidal effect and tolerance to the new helminthocide nemocide. 140 enterobiasis patients were subjected to nemocide treatment, including 29 hospital patients and 111 children treated under ambulatory conditions. Nemocide-tolerance proved to be satisfactory. Efficacy of hospital treatment attained 96.5 +/- 3.4%, while under ambulatory conditions it was 82.0 +/- 4.0%.

Examination of 112 women living in the antimonic subregion of the Fergana valley has shown that the composition of breast milk and enzymatic activity of its hydrolases depend not only on the period of lactation but also on the features of the antimonic biogeochemical regions where lactating mothers live. Iodine prophylaxis of the endemic goiter among women, promoting the improvement of the biological value of breast milk should be carried out with regard to the antimony content in the environment.

[Lipidogram indices of viral hepatitis patients in the antimony subregion of the Fergana Valley]. / Nekotorye pokazateli lipidogrammy u bol'nykh virusnym gepatitom v usloviiakh sur'mianogo subregiona Ferganskoi doliny.

The data are provided on the content of antimony in soil, water, foods of plant and animal origin, diets, and in blood of normal and virus hepatitis individuals living in the antimony subregion of the Fergana valley. It has been shown that the lipidogram of virus hepatitis patients living in the secondary biogeochemical province of the Andizhan region differs from that of the same patients living in other subregions of the USSR.

[Desferal test study of the iron reserves of the body in chronic digestive organ diseases]. / Izuchenie zapasov zheleza v organizme bol'nykh khronicheskimi zabolevaniiami organov pishchevareniia s pomoshch'iu desferalovogo testa.

In 73 patients suffering from diverse chronic affections of digestive organs the possibility of using desferal--a new complexion--for determining iron reserves in the organism was studied. The obtained data bear proof to the existence of a direct relationship between the renal excretion of iron following introduction of desferol, localization of the pathological process and the severity of the disease. The profoundest changes in the iron metabolism were noted in the organism of patients with an extensive resection of the small intestine in their past and in those with chronic enterocolities of the III degree of severity. Thus, desferal test may be recommended for studying iron reserves in the organism of patients with chronic affections of the digestive organs.

[Effect of copper on iron metabolism in the body of gastrogenic anemia patients]. / O vliianii medi na obmen zheleza v organizme bol'nykh gastrogennoi anemiei

In 40 patients suffering from gastrogenic anemia subject to study were the iron content in the daily ration, iron excretion with feces, as well as the level of the serumal iron, the whole blood copper, the number of erythrocytes and the blood hemoglobin level both before the treatment and at different stages of the therapy, 6 mg of copper per day included in the diet. The iron was determined after Henry (1958) and copper after L.N. Lapin (1957). The data obtained indicate that following a regular taking of copper there increases the iron retention in the organism of the patients, this phenomenon being attended by a falling concentration of copper in the whole blood and a rising level of the serumal iron, hemoglobin and an increase in the number of erythrocytes in the peripheral blood. These data confirm the fact of physiological synergism between copper and iron in the organism, including that in the organism of patients with gastrogenic anemia.
