RESUMO

Organic dye pollution from textiles and other industries presents a substantial risk to people and aquatic life. The use of photocatalysis to decolorize water using the strength of UV light is one of the most important remediation techniques. In the present study, a novel nanocomposites hydrogel including carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), acrylic acid (AAc), Zinc oxide (ZnO), and silver (Ag) nanoparticles was produced using an eco-friendly γ-irradiation technique for photocatalytic decolorization applications. ZnO and Ag nanoparticles were distributed in the CMC/AAc hydrogel matrix without significant aggregation. SEM, XRD, EDX, TEM, and FTIR analyses were used to assess the physicochemical characteristics of the nanocomposite samples. Carboxymethyl cellulose/acrylic acid/Zinc oxide doped silver (CMC/PAAc/ZnO@Ag) nanocomposite hydrogels were developed and utilized in the photocatalytic decolorization of the lerui acid brilliant blue dye (LABB) when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. UV- Vis spectrophotometry was utilized to analyze the optical properties of the produced nanostructure. Regarding the decolorization of the LABB, the impacts of operational variables were investigated. The optimum conditions for decolorization (93 %) were an initial concentration of 50 mg/L, pH = 4, catalyst dosage of 50 g/L, and exposure time of 90 min. The results illustrated that the LABB acidic dye from wastewater was remarkably decolored.

RESUMO

Even at low concentrations, organic dye pollution entering water resources from the textile, paper, and pharmaceutical industry sectors poses a serious hazard to human and aquatic life. One of the most significant remediation methods is the adsorption method. In the present study, the uptake of basic violet 7 (BV7) synthetic dye was investigated utilizing Poly (vinyl alcohol)/starch/Pumice [poly (PVA/St/Pu)] composite films prepared by a simple casting of both PVA and St with Pu and then irradiated by electron beam (EB) source to prompt curing. Numerous characterization methods, such as SEM, FTIR, X-ray diffraction (XRD, and other measurements, were examined on the prepared sample. The tensile strength (TS) of all composites was increased by increasing the radiation dose up to 10 kGy. TS was increased by 3 php of Pu, and an overload of Pu led to a decrease in TS values. The elongation at break (Eb) of the prepared composite increased at 3 Pu, then decreased as the quantity of the pumice increased, while the Eb was decreased by irradiation. The effects of the produced polymeric films' composition and irradiation dose on the basic violet 7 (BV 7) dye adsorption were studied. It was found that the adsorption capacity of poly (PVA/St/9 php Pu-10 kGy) toward the BV 7 dye was 64.9 mg/g at the optimal conditions: pH = 11, contact time = 480 min., adsorbent dosage = 0.2 g., concentration = 150 mg/l, and temperature = 298 K. The adsorption process fitted with the pseudo-second-order model, Freundlich adsorption isotherms were found to be spontaneous and endothermic.

RESUMO

A nanocomposite hydrogel of chitosan/polypropenoic acid/ethylenediamine/magnetite (Cs/PPA/EDA/Fe3O4-NPs) was prepared using a gamma irradiation source (60Co). In the present study, chitosan/propenoic acid with different ratios and ethylenediamine were used as a matrix and Fe3O4 as a filler. The nanocomposite hydrogel was irradiated at 30 kGy using the γ-radiation technique as a crosslinking tool. The prepared nanocomposites were characterized utilizing several analytical techniques including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and X-ray diffractometer (XRD). Results show that the Cs/PPA/EDA/Fe3O4-NPs nanocomposite has superabsorbent and superparamagnetic properties. The kinetic model of AB and LABB dyes adsorption onto the obtained nanocomposite hydrogel was confirmed and observed to be a pseudo-second-order reaction. The thermodynamic study proved that the adsorption process is endothermic in nature. The Langmuir plot best fitted the other isotherm models. The prepared Cs/PPA/EDA/Fe3O4-NPs nanocomposite hydrogel showed an excellent adsorption capacity for the removal of hazardous and toxic basic Astrazon blue (193.21 mg/g) and acidic Lerui Acid Brilliant Blue (51.9 mg/g) dyes from contaminated solutions. The results reveal that the Cs/PPA/EDA/Fe3O4-NPs nanocomposite hydrogel significantly removed the hazardous, toxic basic AB and acidic LABB dyes from waste solutions.
