OBJECTIVE: Screw loosening is a common complication of internal fixation of pedicle screw. Therefore, the development of a pedicle screw with low loosening rate and high biosafety is of great clinical significance. This study aimed to investigate whether the application of a porous scaffold structure can improve the stability of pedicle screws by comparing the biomechanical properties of novel porous scaffold core pedicle screws (PSCPSs) with those of hollow lateral hole pedicle screws (HLHPSs) in a porcine lumbar spine. METHODS: Thirty-two pedicle screws of both types were implanted bilaterally into the L1-4 vertebrae of four Bama pigs, with our newly designed PSCPSs on the right and HLHPSs on the left. All the Bama pigs were sacrificed 16 weeks postoperatively, and the lumbar spine was freed into individual vertebrae. Biomechanical properties of both the pedicle screws were evaluated using pull-out tests, as well as cyclic bending and pull-out tests, while the mechanical properties were assessed using three-point bending tests. The data generated were statistically analyzed using paired-sample t-tests and two independent sample t-tests. RESULTS: We found that the maximal pull-out forces before and after cyclic bending of the PSCPSs (1161.50 ± 337.98 N and 1075.25 ± 223.33 N) were significantly higher than those of the HLHPSs (948.38 ± 194.32 N and 807.13 ± 242.75 N) (p < 0.05, p < 0.05). In 800 cycles of the bending tests, neither PSCPS nor HLHPS showed loosening or visible detachment, but their maximal pull-out forces after cyclic bending tests decreased compared to those in cycles without cyclic bending tests (7.43% and 14.89%, respectively), with no statistical significance (p > 0.05 and p > 0.05, respectively). Additionally, both screws buckled rather than broke in the three-point bending tests, with no statistically significant differences between the maximal bending load and modulus of elasticity of the two screws (p > 0.05 and p > 0.05, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Compared with the HLHPSs, the PSCPSs have greater pull-out resistance and better fatigue tolerance with appropriate mechanical properties. Therefore, PSCPSs theoretically have significant potential for clinical applications in reducing the incidence of loosening after pedicle screw implantation.

This study explored the levels, distribution, potential sources, ecological risks and estrogenic activities of 14 bisphenol analogues (BPs) in soil under eight land-use types in the megacity of Chengdu, China. Eleven BPs were detected in the soil samples and the total concentrations ranged from 32.3 to 570 ng/g d.w. Levels of bisphenol BP (BPBP) in the soil (up to 208 ng/g d.w.) only second to the most dominant compound bisphenol A (BPA) were found. Relatively higher Σ14BP accumulation in the soil was observed in the commercial and residential areas (median: 136 ng/g d.w. and 131 ng/g d.w.) compared with agricultural area (median: 67.5 ng/g d.w.). Source identification indicated the role of atmospheric particulate deposition and consecutive anthropogenic activities in BP emission. The ecotoxicity assessment implied that BPA, bisphenol S (BPS), bisphenol F (BPF) and bisphenol PH (BPPH) might pose low to medium risk to the ecosystem due to their extensive use and biological effects. The calculated 17ß-estradiol equivalents of BPs were in the range of 0.501-7.74 pg E2/g d.w, and the estrogenic activities were inferior to those contributed by natural estrogens in the soil.

Bisphenol A (BPA) and its analogues have been proved to be harmful to human reproduction, endocrine and nervous system. But information on the occurrence and human exposure to bisphenol compounds (BPs) in dust (especially outdoor dust) is limited. In this study, 14 BPs were determined in 174 indoor dust samples and 202 outdoor dust samples from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. BPA, BPS, BPAF, BPF, BPAP and BPE were widely detected with detection frequencies of 98.94 %, 98.67 %, 97.87 %, 95.21 %, 87.23 % and 71.54 %, respectively. The median total concentrations of the most detected six BPs in the dust were in the order of south urban indoors (556 ng/g) > south rural outdoors (438 ng/g) > south urban outdoors (432 ng/g) > south rural outdoors (418 ng/g) > north rural indoors (412 ng/g) > north urban outdoors (341 ng/g) > north urban indoors (311 ng/g) > north rural outdoors (246 ng/g). The amounts of garbage incineration, plastic output and recycled paper may have influence on the BPs levels. Some BPs (BPAF, BPAP, BPF and BPS) in the indoor and outdoor samples were significantly positively correlated. In addition, the BPs in the indoor dust from different indoor micro environments in Chengdu were investigated. BPA (median concentration: 571.2 ng/g) and BPF (median concentration: 114.3 ng/g) were the two primary BPs, accounting for 78.1 % of the median total concentrations of the investigated BPs. High concentration of BPA appeared in printing workshops and offices, while high concentration of BPAP, BPC, BPE and BPF appeared in electronic repair shops. Occupational exposure to BPs deserves attention in the future. ΣBPs exposure risk for children and adults in the urban areas of southern China was the highest. To our knowledge, this is the first report in China to study BPs in outdoor dust sample.

Albendazole (ALB) and bithionol (BIT) are two anthelmintic drugs (ADs) with high consumption from benzimidazole group and diphenylsulfide group, respectively. However, information on the transformation of the two anthelmintics under environmental condition is scare. Therefore, in the present study, we investigated the natural attenuation of the two ADs in the aquatic environment, including biodegradation, hydrolysis, and direct and indirect photodegradation. The direct photodegradation occupied a vast portion among other degradation pathways of the two ADs in natural water, with near-surface summer half-lives of 0.272-0.387 h and 0.110-0.520 h for ALB and BIT, respectively. Suspended particles in water were found to facilitate the photodegradation of the two ADs. Study on the indirect photodegradation demonstrated the positive roles of singlet oxygen (1O2) and excited triplet dissolved organic matter (3DOM*) in the photolysis of the two ADs, whereas the hydroxyl radical (•OH) affected little on the overall photodegradation procedures of ALB due to the scavenging effect of HCO3-. Dual effects of DO, DOM, HCO3-, NO3-, and NO2- on the photodegradation of ALB and BIT were perceived. Transformation intermediates (TIs) of the two ADs during photodegradation were analyzed by UHPLC-QTOF-MS. Six TIs of ALB were identified, including a broad-spectrum fungicide carbendazim and another common AD ricobendazole. Two TIs of BIT yielded from dechlorination were also detected. Probable transformation mechanism and predicted aquatic ecotoxicity based on the identified TIs were unveiled.

Organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs) have been shown to be carcinogenic, neurotoxic, and endocrine disruptive, so it is important to understand the levels of OPFRs in human body as well as the modes of external exposure. In this study, we investigated the levels of 13 OPFRs and 7 phosphodiester metabolites in paired human blood and urine, as well as the influencing factors (region, age and gender), and studied the relationship between OPFRs and oxidative stress by urinary metabolites. We found that the concentrations of triphenyl phosphate (TPhP) and tris-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate (TEHP) in the blood of urban populations were higher than those of rural populations, and that younger populations suffered higher TPhP and 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate (EHDPP) exposures than older populations. In addition, we found that tris-(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP), tributyl phosphate (TnBP), TPhP and EHDPP exposure induced oxidative stress. The results of the internal load principal component analysis indicated that dust ingestion, skin exposure, respiration and dietary intake may be the most important sources of TCEP, tris(2-butoxyethyl) phosphate (TBOEP), tri(2-chloroisopropyl) phosphate (TCIPP) and TEHP, respectively, and dust ingestion and skin exposure may be the main sources of TPhP for humans.

This study explored the occurrence and distribution of 19 anthelmintic drugs (ADs) including the benzimidazole group, salicylanilide group, imidazothiazole group, tetrahydropyrimidine group, diphenylsulfide group, macrocyclic lactone group and hexahydropyrazine group in river water and sediment of the Jinjiang River in Sichuan, China, during summer and winter seasons. All targets were detected in river water (up to 74.64 ng L-1) and sediment (up to 1701 ng g-1) samples. The predominant ADs were benzimidazoles regardless of seasons and matrices, accounting for 43-82% of the total anthelmintic abundance. Obvious seasonal variation of AD concentrations in the two matrices was observed, which could be attributed to the seasonality of human and veterinary uses of ADs. Evident spatial variation (urban and rural areas) of ADs in winter was indicative of the influence of anthropogenic activities on the environmental concentration of ADs. Though benzimidazoles accumulated in the water and sediment with the highest concentration among all the ADs, macrocyclic lactones were of the highest risk to non-target organisms through ecological risk assessment, with an RQEcotox value up to 2713. This work contributes to comprehensively assessing the contamination level, ecological level and transmission characteristics of ADs in the environment.

The function of Seryl-tRNA synthetase in fungi during gene transcription regulation beyond translation has not been reported. Here, we report a seryl-tRNA synthetase, ThserRS, which can negatively regulate laccase lacA transcription in Trametes hirsuta AH28-2 under exposure to copper ion. ThserRS was obtained through yeast one-hybrid screening using a bait sequence of lacA promoter (-502 to -372 bp). ThserRS decreased while lacA increased at the transcription level in T. hirsuta AH28-2 in the first 36 h upon CuSO4 induction. Then, ThserRS was upregulated, and lacA was downregulated. ThserRS overexpression in T. hirsuta AH28-2 resulted in a decrement in lacA transcription and LacA activity. By comparison, ThserRS silencing led to increased LacA transcripts and activity. A minimum of a 32-bp DNA fragment containing two putative xenobiotic response elements could interact with ThserRS, with a dissociation constant of 919.9 nM. ThserRS localized in the cell cytoplasm and nucleus in T. hirsuta AH28-2 and was heterologously expressed in yeast. ThserRS overexpression also enhanced mycelial growth and oxidative stress resistance. The transcriptional level of several intracellular antioxidative enzymes in T. hirsuta AH28-2 was upregulated. Our results demonstrate a noncanonical activity of SerRS that acts as a transcriptional regulation factor to upregulate laccase expression at an early stage after exposure to copper ions. IMPORTANCE Seryl-tRNA synthetase is well known for the attachment of serine to the corresponding cognate tRNA during protein translation. In contrast, its functions beyond translation in microorganisms are underexplored. We performed in vitro and cell experiments to show that the seryl-tRNA synthetase in fungi with no UNE-S domain at the carboxyl terminus can enter the nucleus, directly interact with the promoter of the laccase gene, and negatively regulate the fungal laccase transcription early upon copper ion induction. Our study deepens our understanding of the Seryl-tRNA synthetase noncanonical activities in microorganisms. It also demonstrates a new transcription factor for fungal laccase transcription.

An optimized QuEChERS method for the simultaneous extraction of 26 antibiotics and 19 anthelmintics in whole cow milk was established, followed by UHPLC-MS/MS analysis. Briefly, 20 mL acetonitrile with 1 g disodium hydrogen citrate, 2 g sodium citrate, 4 g anhydrous MgSO4, and 1 g sodium chloride were added to 10 g milk for target chemical extraction, followed by 50 mg anhydrous MgSO4 for purification. Satisfactory recoveries were obtained using the modified QuEChERS method, with recoveries of the antibiotics ranging from 79.7 to 117.2%, with the exception of norfloxacin, which was at 53.4%, while those for anthelmintics were in the range of 73.1-105.1%. The optimized QuEChERS method presented good precision, with relative standard deviations ranging from 7.2 to 18.6% for both antibiotics and anthelmintics. The method was successfully applied to analyze the antibiotics and anthelmintics in 56 whole cow milk samples from China. Briefly, the detection frequencies and concentrations of most of the antibiotics and anthelmintics were low in the whole cow milk samples, with concentrations ranging from below LOD to 4296.8 ng/kg. Fenbendazole, febantel, enrofloxacin, levofloxacin, sulfadiazine, and sulfamethoxazole were the predominant drug residues in the whole cow milk samples. Spatial distribution was found for those antibiotics and anthelmintics with detection frequency higher than 50%, especially for the antibiotics, indicating regional differences in drug application. Based on the current study, exposure to antibiotics and anthelmintics through whole cow milk consumption are lower than the acceptable daily intake values suggested by the China Institute of Veterinary Drug Control. However, long-term exposure to low doses of antibiotics and anthelmintics still needs attention and merits further study.

Hitherto, the effect of vanadium on higher plant growth remains an open topic. Therefore, nontargeted metabolomic and RNA-Seq profiling were implemented to unravel the possible alteration in alfalfa seedlings subjected to 0.1 mg L-1 (B group) and 0.5 mg L-1 (C group) pentavalent vanadium [(V(V)] versus control (A group) in this study. Results revealed that vanadium exposure significantly altered some pivotal transcripts and metabolites. The number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) markedly up- and down-regulated was 21 and 23 in B_vs_A, 27 and 33 in C_vs_A, and 24 and 43 in C_vs_B, respectively. The number for significantly up- and down-regulated differential metabolites was 17 and 15 in B_vs_A, 43 and 20 in C_vs_A, and 24 and 16 in C_vs_B, respectively. Metabolomics and transcriptomics co-analysis characterized three significantly enriched metabolic pathways in C_vs_A comparing group, viz., α-linolenic acid metabolism, flavonoid biosynthesis, and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, from which some differentially expressed genes and differential metabolites participated. The metabolite of traumatic acid in α-linolenic acid metabolism and apigenin in flavonoid biosynthesis were markedly upregulated, while phenylalanine in phenylpropanoid biosynthesis was remarkably downregulated. The genes of allene oxide cyclase (AOC) and acetyl-CoA acyltransferase (fadA) in α-linolenic acid metabolism, and chalcone synthase (CHS), flavonoid 3'-monooxygenase (CYP75B1), and flavonol synthase (FLS) in flavonoid biosynthesis, and caffeoyl-CoA O-methyltransferase (CCoAOMT) in phenylpropanoid biosynthesis were significantly downregulated. While shikimate O-hydroxycinnamoyltransferase (HCT) in flavanoid and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis were conspicuously upregulated. Briefly, vanadium exposure induces a readjustment yielding in metabolite and the correlative synthetic precursors (transcripts/unigenes) in some branched metabolic pathways. This study provides a practical and in-depth perspective from transcriptomics and metabolomics in investigating the effects conferred by vanadium on plant growth and development.

Heterocycles are common in the structure of drugs used clinically to deal with diseases. Such drugs usually contain nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur, which possess electron-accepting capacity and can form hydrogen bonds. These properties often bring enhanced target binding ability to these compounds when compared to alkanes. Pyrazine is a nitrogen-containing six-membered heterocyclic ring and many of its derivatives are identified as bioactive molecules. We review here the most active pyrazine compounds in terms of their structure, activity in vitro and in vivo (mainly antitumor activity) and the reported mechanisms of action. References have been downloaded through Web of Science, PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar and SciFinder Scholar. Publications reporting only the chemistry of pyrazine derivatives are beyond the scope of this review and have not been included. We found that compounds in which a pyrazine ring was fused into other heterocycles especially pyrrole or imidazole were the highly studied pyrazine derivatives, whose antineoplastic activity had been widely investigated. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first review of pyrazine derivatives and their bioactivity, especially their antitumor activity. This review should be useful for those engaged in development of medications based on heterocyclic compounds especially those based on pyrazine.

In order to fill the blank of domestic research on anthelmintics in dust and soil, 159 paired dust (including indoor and outdoor dust) and soil samples were collected nationwide. All 19 kinds of the anthelmintics were detected in the samples. The total concentration of the target substances in the outdoor dust, indoor dust and soil samples ranged from 1.83 to 1.30 × 103 ng/g, from 2.99 to 6.00 × 103 ng/g and from 0.23 to 8.03 × 102 ng/g, respectively. The total concentration of the 19 anthelmintics in northern China were significantly higher than those in southern China in the outdoor dust and soil samples. No significant correlation was found in the total concentration of anthelmintics between the indoor and outdoor dust because of strong human activities interference, however, a significant correlation existed between the outdoor dust and soil samples and between the indoor dust and soil samples. High ecological risk was found at 35% and 28% of all the sampling sites to non-target organisms in the soil respectively for IVE and ABA, and merits further study. The daily anthelmintics intakes were evaluated via ingestion and dermal contact of soil and dust samples for both children and adults. Ingestion was the predominant way for anthelmintics exposure, and the anthelmintics in soil and dust did not pose a health threat to human health at present.

The tissue distribution (liver, kidney, heart, lung, and muscle), source, and trophic transfer of 15 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were studied on 14 stranded East Asian finless porpoises (Neophocaena asiaeorientalis sunameri), 14 spotted seals (Phoca largha), and 9 stranded minke whales (Balaenoptera acutorostrata) from Yellow Sea and Liaodong Bay. The PAHs levels ranged from below the limit of detection to 459.22 ng g-1 dry weight in the tissues of the three marine mammals, and light molecular weight PAHs were the primary pollutants. Although the PAHs levels were relatively higher in internal organs of the three marine mammals, generally no tissue-specific distribution of the PAHs congeners was found, either for gender-specific distribution of PAHs in the East Asian finless porpoises. However, species specific PAHs concentration distribution were obtained. The PAHs were mainly originated from petroleum and biomass combustion in the East Asian finless porpoises, while those for the spotted seals and minke whales were complex. Trophic level associated biomagnification was found for phenanthrene, fluoranthene, and pyrene in the minke whale. Benzo(b)fluoranthene exhibited a significant biodilution with increasing trophic levels in the spotted seals, but the total concentration of the PAHs showed a significant biomagnification with increasing trophic levels. Trophic level-associated biomagnification of acenaphthene, phenanthrene, anthracene, and ∑PAHs were found in the East Asian finless porpoise, while pyrene exhibited obvious biodilution with increasing trophic levels. Our current study filled knowledge gaps on tissue distribution and trophic transfer of the PAHs in the investigated three marine mammals.

Knowledge on the composition and characteristics of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in complex shale gas wastewater (SGW) is critical to evaluate environmental risks and to determine effective management strategies. Herein, five SGW samples from four key shale gas blocks in the Sichuan Basin, China, were comprehensively characterized. Specifically, FT-ICR MS was employed to provide insights into the sources, composition, and characteristics of SGW DOM. Organic matter was characterized by low average molecular weight, high saturation degree, and low aromaticity. Notably, the absence of correlations between molecular-level parameters and spectral indexes might be attributed to the high complexity and variability of SGW. The unique distribution depicted in van Krevelen diagrams suggested various sources of DOM in SGW, such as microbially derived organics in shales and biochemical transformations. Moreover, linear alkyl benzene sulfonates, as well as associated biodegraded metabolites and coproducts, were identified in SGW, implying the distinct anthropogenic imprints and abundant microbial activities. Furthermore, high DOC removal rates (31.42-79.23 %) were achieved by biological treatment, fully supporting the inherently labile nature of SGW and the feasibility of biodegradation for SGW management. Therefore, we conclude that DOM in SGW is a complex but mostly labile mixture reflecting both autochthonous and anthropogenic sources.

A total of 20 stranded spotted seals (Phoca largha) and 9 stranded minke whales (Balaenoptera acutorostrata) were collected from Liaodong Bay and the northern part of the Yellow Sea to investigate the tissue distribution (liver, kidney, heart, lung, and muscle), risk, and trophic magnification of 13 trace elements (TEs, Hg, As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Se, Sn, V, Zn). The 13 TEs were all detected in all spotted seal and minke whale tissue samples, with mean concentrations ranging from 0.041 to 136.3 mg kg-1 dry weight (dw) and 0.022 to 152.6 mg kg-1 dw, respectively. Zn was the dominant contaminant in all tissues for both spotted seals and minke whales. There was tissue-specific distribution of TEs in both marine mammals, and the TEs tended to accumulate in internal organs. Significant positive correlations were found in the body length of the spotted seals and minke whales among some of the TEs, especially for Cd in the internal organs. Gender-dependent distribution of the TEs was not obtained for the spotted seal. Ecological risk evaluation for spotted seals and minke whales suggested that greater concern should be given to Hg, As, and Se. Based on the TE concentrations detected in this study and trophic levels determined by stable carbon and nitrogen isotopes, trophic level-associated biodilution was obtained for As, Cd, Co, Cu, Mn, Pb, Se, Sn, and V in the spotted seal, while Zn displayed a significant biomagnification trend with increasing trophic levels. In the case of the minke whale, As, Cd, Co, Mn, Pb, Se, and V displayed significant biomagnification trends with increasing trophic levels.

We investigated the tissue distribution, trophic transfer, and ecological risk of 13 trace elements in 26 East Asian finless porpoises (Neophocaena asiaeorientalis sunameri), an endangered species found in the Liaodong Bay and the north Yellow Sea. All the investigated trace elements were detected in the tissue and food web of the East Asian finless porpoises. The concentrations of the potentially toxic elements were 2.37 × 10-5 - 754 mg kg-1 dry weight (dw) in stranded porpoises and 0.01-159 mg kg-1 dw in their food web. Tissue-specific distribution of the trace elements generally ranked as: liver > kidney > heart > lung > muscle. Zn was the dominant contaminant in the five investigated tissues. Significant positive correlations were found between body length or age and some trace elements, especially Cd. Adults (≥2 years old) presented higher concentrations of most of the trace elements than juveniles (<2 years old). Sex-dependent distribution of the trace elements was insignificant except for Mn, Ni, and Zn in muscle and renal tissue. As, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, and V biodiluted across the East Asian finless porpoise food web while Zn biomagnified. However, Hg, Cd, Co, Cr, Se, and Sn did not exhibit apparent trophic transfer trends. Overall, ecological risk assessment of trace elements in East Asian finless porpoises suggested that greater attention should be given to Hg, As, Cd, and Se.

Recently, emerging pollutants, such as anthelmintics have attracted an increasing attention worldwide due to their extensive use and notable stability. However, the information on anthelmintics in the environment of southwest China is scarce. Thus, the occurrence, ecological risk and exposure evaluation of nineteen anthelmintics in Tuojiang River, which is one of the largest tributaries of Yangtze River, and drinking water source of Sichuan, southwest China, were investigated. The result showed that the detection frequency of anthelmintics was relatively high in Tuojiang River, ranging from 65% to 100% in river water. Among the seven kinds of anthelmintics, benzimidazoles are the primary anthelmintics, with concentrations up to 61.12 ng/L and 596.06 ng/g in water and sediment of the Tuojiang river, respectively. The total concentration of 19 anthelmintics in sediment samples from non-agricultural area was higher than that in agricultural area(p = 0.000 < 0.05). This could be attributed to anthropogenic activities, which lead to greater discharge and accumulation of anthelmintics in residential area along the river. It's worth to mention that the highest total concentrations of anthelmintics (109.28 ng/L) was found at the junction of rivers in R31 site. The results could be ascribed to the complexity of junction of Tuojiang River and Yangtze River, which could influence the distribution of pollutant. Besides, the ecological risk assessment showed that the macrocyclic lactones rather than benzimidazoles had relatively high toxicity to non-target organisms in aquatic environment (p = 0.000 < 0.05), with the highest RQEcotox value of 101 for Daphnia magna, while benzimidazoles had relatively high concentrations. The exposure risk could be ignored for both children and adults because the daily intake of anthelmintics via water ingestion were below 10 ng/kg/d. In addition, strong correlations were found between sucralose and most of the selected anthelmintics in Tuojiang River, indicating that sucralose might be a good tracer to evaluated the source of anthelmintics in surface water. This study provides the levels, risks and even some tracer information of pollutants for better understanding of anthelmintics in southwest China.

In this paper, we found that (NH4)2V4O9 undergoes an electrochemical activation process in the first charging process at ∼1.4 V (vs. Zn2+/Zn), leading to a significant improvement of capacity and cycling stability. The activated vanadium oxides delivered a high specific capacity of 477 mA h g-1 at 50 mA g-1 and outstanding cycling stability with 97.7% capacity retention after 5000 cycles at 15 A g-1.

Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) are organo-fluorine compounds which have been identified at significant levels in soils due to their widespread usage in industrial and commercial applications. However, few studies are available regarding the occurrence of PFCs in the environment of endemic fluorosis areas. To address the issue, soils collected from an endemic fluorosis area of southwestern China were analyzed for the distribution of fluorine and 21 kinds of PFCs. The average water-soluble fluorine concentration in cultivated soil (4.87 mg kg-1) was significantly higher than that in uncultivated soil (3.15 mg kg-1), which mainly ascribed to the utilization of fluorine-enriched fertilizers during agricultural practices. Concentrations of ΣPFCs in all soils ranged from 0.508 to 6.83 ng g-1, with an average of 2.81 ng g-1, dominated by perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). Highest ΣPFCs was found in the soil samples collected from cropland with intensive agricultural activities. Long-chain PFCs, including four perfluoroalkylcarboxylic acids (PFCAs, C ≥ 8) and one perfluoroalkylsulfonic acids (PFSAs) (perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), C8), exhibited high levels in soils, probably due to their higher hydrophobicity and lower water-solubility than short-chain PFCs. While in sediments, short-chain PFCAs were the dominant compounds. Based on correlation analysis, the relationship between total fluorine and PFCs was insignificant, and soil organic matter was a relevant factor affecting PFCs distribution in soils. This study is expected to present a more comprehensive information about fluorine contamination under the influence of agricultural activities in an endemic fluorosis area.

Solid-state lithium metal battery (SSLMB) is regarded as a safer energy storage system compared to the liquid one. The performance of the SSLMB depends on the cathode performance and the side reactions derived from the interface of the cathode and the electrolyte, which becomes much severe at high temperatures. Herein, we carried out a facile spray-drying route to prepare a CNTs/LiV3O8/Y2O3 (M-LVO-Y) composite. The synthesized cathode material exhibits an outstanding Li+ storage performance with a high reversible capacity of 279.9 mA h g-1 at 0.05 A g-1, excellent power capability (182.5 mA h g-1 at 2 A g-1), and a long cycle lifespan of 500 cycles with a capacity retention of 66.5% at a current density of 1 A g-1. The fabricated rechargeable solid-state Li/M-LVO-Y-2 lithium metal battery (LMB) with a poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-based solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) achieves a high discharge capacity of 302.1 mA h g-1 at 0.05 A g-1 and a stable cycling performance with the highest capacity of 72.1% after 100 cycles at 0.2 A g-1 and 80 °C. The above battery performance demonstrates that SSLMBs with the CNTs/LiV3O8/Y2O3 cathode and the PEO-based SPE film can provide high energy density and are suitable for applying in a high-temperature environment.

Aim of this study was to provide an up-to-date assessment of the heavy metals and antibiotics in reclaimed water in Chengdu, China. 3 sewage treatment plants (STPs) and 1 constructed wetland (CW) were first taken as the research objects. The total concentration and reduction change rule of heavy metals and antibiotics in the process of reclaimed water production were investigated. The possible health risks to ecological environment and human body were evaluated. For the treatment process, the Cyclic Activated Sludge System (CASS) used in A sewage treatment plant (STP A) had the best removal effect for heavy metals. When the proportion of industrial wastewater in the influent was relatively high, the heavy metal pollution level was alert. Ofloxacin (OFX) and roxithromycin (ROX) were the most abundant antibiotics in reclaimed water. After being removed by the sewage treatment system, OFX concentrations changed, but several of them remained in reclaimed water. Negative removal of ROX occurred. This is because macrolides were wrapped in human feces, whose concentration increased as feces disperse and hydrolyze. Compared with CASS (20.02%) and Anaerobic-Anoxic-Oxic process (A2/O 34.16%), the average removal rate of antibiotics from the A2/O accompanied by Membrane Bio-Reactor (71.1%) and CW (54.95%) was higher. When the proportion of domestic sewage in wastewater was high, antibiotics in reclaimed water had higher ecological risk. OFX had the highest ecological risk for non-target aquatic organisms. It was assessed that the heavy metals and antibiotics studied did not pose a carcinogenic or non-carcinogenic risk to human health.
