RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Previous studies have demonstrated the beneficial effects of treadmill exercise (EX) on osteoporosis, and of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) on osteoblast and osteoclast formation in vitro. We investigated the effects of HBO and the combination of HBO and EX on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats. METHODS: Forty 3-month-old female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 5 groups (n = 8): a sham control group (Control); an ovariectomy group; an ovariectomy with treadmill exercise treatment group; an ovariectomy with HBO treatment group; and an ovariectomy with HBO treatment combined with treadmill exercise group. The HBO exposures were 203 kPa, 85-90% O2, 90 min and the exercise regimen was 20 m·min⁻¹, 40 min·day¹, 5° slope. Both treatments were administered once daily, five days a week for 12 weeks until the rats were sacrificed. RESULTS: All three treatments (HBO, exercise, and both combined) significantly promoted the expression of the osteoblast-related gene and oxidative metabolism-related gene (PGC-1α). They also exerted significant inhibitory effects on the osteoclast-related mRNA expression (RANKL) and bone resorption marker CTX-I. Additionally, exercise and the combination exercise-HBO treatment increased serum superoxide dysmutase (SOD) and sclerostin expression. No significant between-group difference was observed. CONCLUSIONS: Hyperbaric oxygen, exercise, and the combination ameliorated bone microarchitecture deterioration and ovariectomy-induced bone loss in rats, and these inhibitory effects may be associated with the increased SOD and up-regulated PGC-1α.

RESUMO

Background: In the early stage of the COVID-19 outbreak in China, several social rumors in the form of false news, conspiracy theories, and magical cures had ever been shared and spread among the general public at an alarming rate, causing public panic and increasing the complexity and difficulty of social management. Therefore, this study aims to reveal the characteristics and the driving factors of the social rumors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Based on a sample of 1,537 rumors collected from Sina Weibo's debunking account, this paper first divided the sample into four categories and calculated the risk level of all kinds of rumors. Then, time evolution analysis and correlation analysis were adopted to study the time evolution characteristics and the spatial and temporal correlation characteristics of the rumors, and the four stages of development were also divided according to the number of rumors. Besides, to extract the key driving factors from 15 rumor-driving factors, the social network analysis method was used to investigate the driver-driver 1-mode network characteristics, the generation driver-rumor 2-mode network characteristics, and the spreading driver-rumor 2-mode characteristics. Results: Research findings showed that the number of rumors related to COVID-19 were gradually decreased as the outbreak was brought under control, which proved the importance of epidemic prevention and control to maintain social stability. Combining the number and risk perception levels of the four types of rumors, it could be concluded that the Creating Panic-type rumors were the most harmful to society. The results of rumor drivers indicated that panic psychology and the lag in releasing government information played an essential role in driving the generation and spread of rumors. The public's low scientific literacy and difficulty in discerning highly confusing rumors encouraged them to participate in spreading rumors. Conclusion: The study revealed the mechanism of rumors. In addition, studies involving rumors on different emergencies and social platforms are warranted to enrich the findings.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Ulna coronoid fracture is a complicated injury and occurred in the coronal plane. Undeniably, there is no universally accepted approach for treating ulna coronoid fractures. Therefore, this study aimed at exploring the efficacy of different surgical treatments for Regan-Morrey type II and III ulna coronoid fractures. METHODS: A total of 164 patients with ulna coronoid fractures were admitted and treated in department of orthopedics at Yiwu Central Hospital, the Affiliated Yiwu Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University for retrospective analysis. The baseline features (age, gender, time from injury to surgery and so on) before the surgery and different conditions during the surgery were compared. Following that, the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) pain score was employed to evaluate the severity of preoperative and postoperative pain experienced by the patients in each group. Afterwards, Broberg and Morrey elbow score was used to evaluate elbow joint function and surgical effect of the patients. Lastly, the postoperative recovery and complications were compared. RESULTS: It was firstly observed that internal fixation with mini plate and hollow screw compelled to lower average operation time and blood loss than Kirschner wire and steel wire suture. Next, the severity of postoperative pain was lessened in comparison with preoperative pain. Afterwards, mini plate and hollow screw improved elbow joint function more notable than Kirschner wire and steel wire suture, and Kirschner wire and steel wire suture resulted in higher incidence of complications and worse postoperative recovery. CONCLUSION: Collectively, this study clarified that for the treatment of Regan-Morrey type II and III ulna coronoid fractures, internal fixation with mini plate and hollow screw has an overall superior surgical effect than internal fixation with Kirschner wire and steel wire suture.
