RESUMO

Objective: To quantitatively evaluate the clinical effect of platelet-rich plasma(PRP) intra-articular injection for early and middle stage knee osteoarthritis(KOA) treatment by 3.0T MRI T2 mapping sequence. Methods: Clinical data of 26 patients with early or middle stage KOA who received treatment from April to December 2021 at Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, the Second Affiliated Hospital,Zhengzhou University were retrospectively analyzed. In total, 8 patients were male and 18 were female, with age of (66.4±12.0)years(range:51 to 94 years). Four patients were bilateral KOA and 22 patients were unilateral KOA.All patients received PRP intra-articular injection. Patients underwent 3.0T MRI T2 mapping sequence scanning pre-treatment,3-month-after and 6-month-after treatment respectively. Those were used to measure and compare T2 values of medial and lateral femoral articular surface and patellofemoral articular surface. Visual analogue scale(VAS) and Western Ontario and McMaster Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) score were recorded and evaluated. The results were analyzed using repeated measure ANOVA followed by Bonferroni multiple comparison test. The correlation between WOMAC scores and T2 values at pre-treatment and 6 months post-treatment was analyzed using Pearson correlation test. Results: After treatment, the patients' International Cartilage Regeneration&Joint Preservation Society(ICRS) classification were partly improved(one case improved from grade Ⅲ to grade Ⅱ, one case improved from grade Ⅱ to grade Ⅰ),and all patients generally improved after treatment in clinical symptoms. Compared with pre-treatment,VAS and WOMAC scores of grade Ⅰ,Ⅱ,and Ⅲ of 6-month after treatment were declined significantly(all P<0.05).The T2 values of articular cartilage declined to varying degrees(the decrease in T2 values was about 2.06 ms in grade Ⅰ, 2.66 ms in grade Ⅱ, and 3.72 ms in grade Ⅲ).Three-month (VAS:4.8±1.3,WOMAC:21.5±4.0) and 6-month (VAS:4.2±1.4,WOMAC:17.2±2.9) after treatment, the VAS and WOMAC score were significantly higher than those before treatment (VAS:6.0±1.2, WOMAC:29.0±2.3) (F=48.846, F=346.746;both P<0.01). Multiple comparisons showed a statistically significant difference between pre-treatment and post-treatment VAS (P<0.01) and it also was significantly different between 3-month and 6-month post-treatment (P<0.01).At 3- and 6-month after treatment,WOMAC scores were significantly different from before treatment. And it also was significantly different between 3-month and 6-month post-treatment (P<0.01).There was a statistically significant improvement in T2 values of patellofemoral articular surface, medial and lateral femoral articular surface at pre-treatment((44.64±4.02)ms,(44.17±3.64)ms and(43.53±3.91)ms) and 3-month ((43.19±3.91)ms,(43.24±3.34)ms and (42.47±3.80)ms), 6-month ((41.49±3.64)ms,(41.83±3.15)ms and (41.10±3.42)ms) after treatment(F=148.845,F=73.657,F=86.268;all P<0.01).The results of the multiple comparisons showed a statistically significant difference in the T2 values of medial and lateral femoral articular surface and patellofemoral articular surface at each time point(all P<0.01).The Pearson correlation analysis suggested that the WOMAC score at pre-treatment was positively correlated with the medial condyle (r=0.856,P<0.01) and the patellofemoral joint surface T2 values (r=0.840,P<0.01);The WOMAC score at 6-month post-treatment was positively correlated with the medial condyle (r=0.731,P<0.01) and the patellofemoral joint surface T2 values (r=0.691,P<0.01). Conclusions: In the treatment of early and mid-stage KOA,MRI T2 mapping sequences are able to indicate the integrity of cartilage morphology and quantitatively evaluate cartilage repair. PRP has a good therapeutic effect on cartilage repair and reconstruction.

RESUMO

Objective: To observe the therapeutic effects of alcohol septal ablation (ASA) in mildly symptomatic patients (NYHA class Ⅱ) with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy(HOCM). Methods: This retrospective study included 150 mildly symptomatic patients with HOCM hospitalized in Beijing Anzhen Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University from March 2001 to December 2017, consisting of medical therapy group (n=102) and ASA group (n=48). Baseline clinical data were collected, patients were followed up to a mean of 6.0 (3.5, 8.1) years. Overall and HCM-related mortality events (including chronic heart failure, atrial fibrillation related stroke, sudden cardiac death) were observed in the two groups. Moreover, the improvement of NYHA function classification and left ventricular outflow tract gradient (LVOTG) were also evaluated. Survival analysis was performed by Kaplan-Meier method. Results: Age of this cohort was (52.9±14.5)years, 92 cases(61.3%) were male. In the follow-up, LVOTG was reduced from (85.8±35.4)mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) to (27.7±19.8)mmHg (P<0.001) in the ASA group, and from (66.3±35.0)mmHg to (56.5±27.7)mmHg in medical therapy group(P<0.01). At the last clinical follow-up, there were 32 patients (66.7%) whose LVOTG were<30 mmHg, septal thickness decreased from (20.3±3.8)mm to (16.1±3.4)mm (P<0.001), NYHA classification was also remarkably improved (P<0.001). New-onset atrial fibrillation tended to be lower in the ASA group compared to medical therapy group (9.3%(4/43) vs. 20.8%(20/96),P=0.096). Eleven patients (10.8%) in the medical therapy group and 2 patients (4.2%) in the ASA group died during the follow-up. One patient received pacemaker during the peri-procedural period, 1 patient was implanted with two-chamber pacemaker due to Ⅲ° atrioventricular block at 10 years after operation in the ASA group. Survival free of all-cause mortality of ASA group at 5 and 10 years was 97.9% and 97.9%, respectively, which was comparable to the medical therapy group (P=0.231). Survival free of HCM-related mortality was similar between the two groups (P=0.397). Conclusions: Compared with medical therapy in mildly symptomatic patients with HOCM, long-term survival rate is similar after ASA. Meanwhile, ASA can remarkably reduce LVOTG and improve the clinical status of the patients. Therefore, ASA may be used as an alternative therapy for mildly symptomatic HOCM patients.

RESUMO

Objective: To compare the difference and agreement of corneal refractive power and astigmatism measured by the new swept-source anterior segment optical coherence tomography (SS-AS-OCT) device (CASIA2) and Scheimpflug imaging device (Pentacam) in age-related cataract patients. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 112 eyes of 112 patients with age-related cataract were examined before phacoemulsification in the Tianjin Medical University Eye Hospital from April to May 2020. The steep keratometry (Ks), flat keratometry (Kf), mean keratometry (Km), degree and axis of astigmatism of the corneal anterior and posterior surfaces and the total cornea were recorded. The difference in astigmatism was analyzed by the arithmetic method and the vector method. The difference of data was evaluated using Paired t test or Wilcoxon test. The agreement of data was evaluated using Bland-Altman plots. Results: The patients were 44 males and 68 females with an average age of (67±10) years. There were no statistically differences in the Ks and Km values of the corneal anterior surface between the Pentacam and the CASIA2 (both P>0.05). There was significant difference in the Kf values of the corneal anterior surface between the Pentacam and the CASIA2 [(44.24±1.73) D vs. (44.14±1.64) D; t=2.278; P<0.05]. The Ks, Kf, and Km values of the posterior surface of the cornea measured by the Pentacam and the CASIA2 were (-6.60±0.29) D vs. (-6.45±0.28) D, (-6.34±0.27) D vs. (-6.17±0.25) D, and (-6.47±0.26) D vs. (-6.31±0.25) D, respectively. The Ks, Kf, and Km values of the total cornea measured by the two instruments were (45.08±1.84) D vs. (43.94±1.64) D, (44.18±1.85) D vs. (43.02±1.64) D, and (44.63±1.82) D vs. (43.48±1.60) D, respectively. There were significant differences in the Ks, Kf, and Km values of the posterior surface of the cornea and the total cornea (t=-14.440, -13.522, -17.186, 21.016, 21.819, 22.981; all P<0.01). The degree and axis of astigmatism of the corneal anterior and posterior surfaces and the total cornea showed no statistically significant difference (all P>0.05). Vector operation results showed that the astigmatism difference vector (DV) of the Pentacam and the CASIA2 on the anterior surface of the cornea was 0.06 D@57°±0.64 D,>0.50 D in 47 eyes (41.96%). The astigmatism DV on the posterior surface of the cornea was 0.07 D@174°±0.21 D, >0.50 D in 2 eyes (1.79%). The astigmatism DV on the total cornea was 0.13 D@3°±0.69 D,>0.50 D in 59 eyes (52.68%). The results of the two devices were positively correlated (r values of the Ks, Kf, Km, and astigmatism degree on the anterior surface of the cornea were 0.970, 0.968, 0.976, and 0.697, respectively, on the posterior surface of the cornea were 0.918, 0.875, 0.925, and 0.517, respectively, and on the total cornea were 0.951, 0.955, 0.959, and 0.622, respectively; all P<0.01). Bland-Altman analysis showed that the Ks, Kf, Km, and astigmatism degree of the corneal anterior and posterior surfaces measured by the two devices were consistent, with 2.68% to 8.04% of the measured values outside 95% limits of agreement (95%LoA). The 95%LoA of the total corneal Ks, Kf, and Km between the two devices was 0.01 to 2.28 D, 0.06 to 2.27 D, and 0.10 to 2.20 D, respectively, with a wide 95%LoA range and poor consistency. Conclusions: The corneal refractive power and astigmatism measured by the CASIA2 and the Pentacam shows little difference on the anterior surface of the cornea, with good agreement. However, the refractive power results of the posterior surface of the cornea and the total cornea show great difference, suggesting that these two instruments cannot be used interchangeably in clinical practice. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration (IDD) is a well-known consequence of low back pain, as characterized by aberrant cell proliferation and apoptosis of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effect of lncRNA small nucleolar RNA host gene 6 (SNHG6) on deregulated functions of degenerative NP cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS: After the establishment of rat IDD models, the mRNA and protein levels of collagen-I (Col-I) and collagen II (Col-II), and mRNA level of SNHG6 were detected by using reverse transcription quantitative Real Time-PCR (RT-qPCR) and Western blot. We further investigated the role and molecular mechanisms of SNHG6 by overexpressing or silencing it in degenerative NP cells. Cell proliferation was measured by MTT assay and EdU staning, and apoptosis was measured by flow cytometry. The target of SNHG6 was identified by starBase and Dual-Luciferase reporter assay. RESULTS: Upregulation of SNHG6 was found in IDD NP cells than in normal cells, associated with higher level of Col-I and lower level of Col-II. Overexpression of SNHG6 inhibited cell proliferation and enhanced apoptosis, accompanied by increased expression of Bax, caspase-3, and p21, as well as decreased expression of Bcl-2, which was in reverse to the treatment of SNHG6 silencing. Moreover, miR-101-3p was indicated as a target of SNHG6, and inhibition of miR-101-3p reversed the effects on proliferation and apoptosis induced by SNHG6. CONCLUSIONS: SNHG6 suppressed cell proliferation and induced apoptosis by increasing expression of Bax, caspase-3, p21 and decreasing Bcl-2 through targeting miR-101-3p, which suggested that SNHG6 could be a potential target in the treatment of IDD.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the effects of simulated-thermobaric explosive gas on the respiration and nervous system in rats. Methods: 70 of SPF SD rats were randomly divided into four thermobaric explosive gas groups, two restoration observation groups and control group from April to August in 2018. The exposure time of in four thermobaric explosive gas groups were 3.75, 7.5, 15.0 and 30 min, respectively. The restoration observation groups were designed to observe for 30 and 120 min after exposure thermobaric explosive gas 30 min. The bloods were collected and analyzed at the end of exposure and recovery observation. The endogenous carbon monoxide (CO) , nitric oxide (NO) , glutamic acid (GLU) , acetylcholinesterase (AchE) and dopamine (DA) were detected in brain tissues, respectively. Results: The blood gas index (pH, PCO(2), PO(2), COHb, O(2)Hb, MeHbt) and blood electrolytes (Na(+), K(+), Ca(2+) and Cl(-)) in exposure groups have significant differences with these in control (P<0.05) . The pH value decreased with the exposure time longer. However, it basically returned to normal level when terminating exposure for 120 min. The concentration of PCO(2), MeHb and CoHb increased first and then decreased with the exposure time extension. Conversely, The PO(2) and O(2)Hb decreased first and then increased with the exposure time longer. The concentration of endogenous CO, GLU, and AchE decreased and NO increased in exposure group 4 and the restoration observation group 1 compared with those in control (P<0.01) . In addition, there were pathological changes in lung and brain tissue of exposure group, such as inflammatory cell infiltration and edema. Conclusion: The blood gas index, electrolytes, neurotransmitter, histopathology of lung and brain were changed to various degrees by thermobaric bomb gas exposure. These findings would provide some beneficial support for evaluating the damage effect of thermobaric bomb gas on organisms.

RESUMO

Objective: To observe the predictive value of serial platelet function testing (PFT) on outcome in patients undergoing complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods: Six hundred and two consecutive patients undergoing complex PCI in Anzhen hospital were enrolled during October 2011 to June 2012.Adenosine diphosphate(ADP)-induced platelet aggregation was measured by light transmission aggregometry on the first, sixth and twelfth month after PCI and the mean value was calculated. The cut-off value of high on-treatment platelet reactivity (HTPR) was defined as 40%.The primary endpoint was major adverse cardiovascular and cerebral event (MACCE). Clinical outcomes were analyzed by the Kaplan-Meier method and differences were compared using the log-rank test.Multivariate analyses by Cox proportion hazards regression were applied to identify variables independently associated with the adverse outcomes. Results: Five hundred and eighty-five patients (HTPR, n=285; non-HTPR, n=280) finished the follow-up ((28.47±7.45) months). A total of 33 cases of MACCE were observed during the follow-up, among which 29 cases(8.42%) were in HTPR group and 9 cases (3.21%) in the non-HTPR group.Kaplan-Meier analysis suggested that HTPR was associated with an increased incidence of MACCE (log-rank test, P=0.01). The Cox multivariate analysis indicated that HTPR was an independent risk factor of MACCE (HR=2.69, 95%CI 1.23-5.85, P=0.01) in patients undergoing complex PCI.Incidence of MACCE was similar between HTRP patients receiving standard dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) or prolonged DAPT (>12 months). Conclusion: Serial PFT could predict the long-term prognosis of patients underwent complex PCI.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate skin sensitization of 3, 4-bis (4'-aminofurazano-3') furoxan (DATF) in mice using 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (BrdU-ELISA) . Methods: A total of 30 specific pathogen-free BALB/C mice were randomly divided into high-, medium-, and low-dose DATF groups, positive control group, and solvent control group, with six mice in each group. The mice in the high-, medium-, and low-dose DATF groups were treated with 50%, 25%, and 10% (0.5, 0.25, and 0.10 g/ml) DATF solution, those in the positive control group were treated with 1% 2, 4-dinitrochlorobenzol (DNCB) , and those in the solvent control group were treated with acetone/olive oil (4∶1) . After treatment, retroauricular lymph nodes were collected and cell suspension was prepared. ELISA was used to measure the level of cell proliferation after the addition of 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (BrdU) , and the BrdU labeling index (LI) and test substance concentration at a stimulation index (SI) of 1.6 (EC1.6) were calculated. Results: There were no significant differences in auricular thickness between groups (P>0.05) , and DAFT did not have skin irritation. Compared with the solvent control group, the high-dose DATF group and the positive control group showed significant increases in the weight of lymph nodes (P<0.05) . Compared with the solvent control group, all the other groups showed significant increases in BrdU LI (P<0.01) . The low-, medium-, and high-dose DATF groups had SIs of 6.1, 8.8, and 12.1, respectively, and the EC1.6 of DATF was 2.2%, which suggested that DATF had strong sensitization. Conclusion: DATF has strong skin sensitization in mice, with reference to the guideline of Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development Item No. 442B (OECD TG 442B) .

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Circulating exosomes represent novel biomarkers for multiple diseases. In this study, we investigated whether circulating exosome levels could be used as a diagnostic biomarker for steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). METHODS: We assessed the serum exosome level of 85 patients with steroid-induced ONFH and 115 healthy donors by Nanosight detection. We then assessed the diagnostic accuracy of serum exosomes by receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. RESULTS: The circulating exosome level of the ONFH group was significantly lower than that of control group. The area under the curve was 0.72, suggesting that the level of serum exosomes has moderate diagnostic accuracy for steroid-induced ONFH. CONCLUSION: Circulating exosome levels are valuable in the diagnosis of steroid-induced ONFH.Cite this article: H-Y. Zhu, Y-C. Gao, Y. Wang, C-Q. Zhang. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association between the mean platelet aggregation degree and the prognosis of patients underwent long-term dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT more than 12 months) following drug eluting stent (DES) implantation. METHODS: A total of 752 patients were retrospectively analyzed who were received DES between September 2006 and June 2009. Adenosine diphosphate-induced platelet aggregation (ADP) was monitored during the course of treatment with DAPT, and the mean platelet aggregation degree of each participant was calculated. Based on the mean platelet aggregation degree, patients were divided into the low ADP degree group (374 cases) and the high ADP degree group (378 cases). The median follow-up period was 32.2(25.1, 34.8) months. The comparison of the composite endpoints (all-cause death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, stent thrombosis, repeat revascularization and stroke) was performed between the two groups. RESULTS: Compared with the high ADP degree group, there were more male, younger and smoker patients in the low ADP degree group (all P<0.05). COX regression analysis showed that the low ADP degree group was associated with a decreased incidence of primary endpoints (HR=0.463, 95%CI 0.23-0.92, P=0.028). After adjustment with multivariable COX regression analysis, the relationship was proven to be independent of other risk factors (HR=0.495, 95%CI 0.25-0.99, P=0.046). The Kaplan-Meier curve demonstrated the incidence of the composite endpoints was significantly higher in high ADP degree group compared to that of low ADP degree group (log-rank χ(2)=5.042, P=0.025). CONCLUSION: The mean adenosine diphosphate-induced platelet aggregation degree is associated with the prognosis of patients underwent long term DAPT after DES implantation.

RESUMO

Objective: To compare the effects of septal ablation (SA) versus conservative medication (CM) on the hemodynamic, clinical status and survival in patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM). Methods: This retrospective study included 350 consecutive patients with HOCM (mean age (51.3±13.5) years old) hospitalized in Anzhen Hospital between September 2002 to September 2014. The patients were followed up to 14 years and the follow up rate was 99.4% (348/350). Overall and cardiac-related mortalities were compared between SA group (n=184) and CM group (n=184). Moreover, SA related cardiac function and hemodynamics improvement were also evaluated, predictors for clinical events were evaluated by Cox regression analysis and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was used to compare the total mortality between the two groups. The log-rank test was used to compare the survival curve differences between the two groups. Results: The median follow-up period was 4 years (1-14 years). The annual mortalities of SA and CM were 2.4% and 0.6% respectively (P<0.001) and cumulative sudden cardiac death (SCD)rates were 3.61% (6/166) and 0.54% (1/184) respectively (P=0.031). Multivariate regression analysis demonstrated that the age was the most important independent predictor for overall mortality(HR=1.259, 95%CI 1.101-1.438, P=0.001). In addition, left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) gradient was significantly reduced post SA (peak velocity of LVOT: baseline (4.23±1.05) m/s, post SA: (1.83±0.79) m/s, P<0. 01) and heart function was also significantly improved post SA (NYHA at baseline: 2.97±0.29, post SA: 1.74±0.53, P<0.001). Conclusion: SA could significantly improve the hemodynamics and clinical status in drug-resistant patients with HOCM. In comparison to patients received CM, overall survival rate was significantly higher in SA group without extra risk of SCD.

RESUMO

Hepatic oval cells (HOCs) are recognized as facultative liver progenitor cells that play a role in liver regeneration after acute liver injury. Here, we investigated the in vitro proliferation and differentiation characteristics of HOCs in order to explore their potential capacity for intrahepatic transplantation. Clusters or scattered HOCs were detected in the portal area and interlobular bile duct in the liver of rats subjected to the modified 2-acetylaminofluorene and partial hepatectomy method. Isolated HOCs were positive for c-kit and CD90 staining (99.8% and 88.8%, respectively), and negative for CD34 staining (3.6%) as shown by immunostaining and flow cytometric analysis. In addition, HOCs could be differentiated into hepatocytes and bile duct epithelial cells after leukemia inhibitory factor deprivation. A two-cuff technique was used for orthotopic liver transplantation, and HOCs were subsequently transplanted into recipients. Biochemical indicators of liver function were assessed 4 weeks after transplantation. HOC transplantation significantly prolonged the median survival time and improved the liver function of rats receiving HOCs compared to controls (P = 0.003, Student t-test). Administration of HOCs to rats also receiving liver transplantation significantly reduced acute allograft rejection compared to control liver transplant rats 3 weeks following transplantation (rejection activity index score: control = 6.3 ± 0.9; HOC = 3.5 ± 1.5; P = 0.005). These results indicate that HOCs may be useful in therapeutic liver regeneration after orthotopic liver transplantation.

HOC transplantation significantly prolonged the median survival time and improved the liver function of rats receiving HOCs compared to controls (P=0.003, Student t-test). Administration of HOCs to rats also receiving liver transplantation significantly reduced acute allograft rejection compared to control liver transplant rats 3 weeks following transplantation (rejection activity index score: control=6.3±0.9; HOC=3.5±1.5; P=0.005). These results indicate that HOCs may be useful in therapeutic liver regeneration after orthotopic liver transplantation.

RESUMO

AIM: The frequency of hypertension events increases after a strong stress, but the mechanism has not been fully investigated. This study aimed to investigate its prevalence and risk factors after the Wenchuan earthquake (8.0 on the Richter scale), so as to provide a scientific basis for the prevention of hypertension in natural disasters or unforeseen accidents. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Victims staying in temporary shelter for more than 1 year between March to May 2009 were randomly selected by multi-stage stratified cluster sampling method. And predetermined questionnaire survey and physical examination were carried out. In this study, all participants signed informed consent form. RESULTS: A total of 3230 victims aged over 20 years participated in this study, and the prevalence rate of hypertension among those victims was 24.08% (778/3230), most of whom had first-level hypertension; and the standardized rate was 18.44%. Moreover, the rates of hypertension awareness, dosing and controlling was only 34.58%, 53.43% and 17.84%, respectively. Among this cohort, the prevalence rate of hypertension increased with age (p < 0.01), but its distribution was similar between male and female victims (25.0% versus 23.58, p > 0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that age, family history of hypertension, sleep quality, waist-to-hip ratio, body mass index and blood glucose level were risk factors of earthquake-induced hypertension among victims in temporary shield district, but mental stress was not. CONCLUSIONS: Though mental stress was not a risk factor of hypertension in this study, earthquake-induced hypertension should not be ignored. For victims after earthquake, the education of the prevention and treatment of hypertension should be strengthened.

RESUMO

AFP, CEA, CA125 and CA19-9 are commonly used serum tumour markers (TMs) in clinical practice, although their quantification by immunoassay may be influenced by pre-analytical sample handling. Though the effect of repetitive freeze-thaw cycles is generally recognized, it is not clear in detail. The present study measured (CLIA) these TMs in serum samples freshly separated and after each of five freeze-thaw cycles, in which the samples were frozen at -40 degrees C for 10 months at cycle 4 and 2 h at other cycles. Statistical analysis with the General Linear Model for Repeated Measures revealed significant decreases in the measurements of the four TMs, with the least decrease of 6.8 % for CA125 and the most decrease of 18.2 % for CA19-9 after the last cycle, and an overwhelming single cycle decrease of mean 7.7 % at cycle 4 for AFP, CEA and CA125, of 7.5 % and 9.3 % at cycles 4 and 5 for CA19-9. So it seems that measurements of AFP, CEA and CA125 are more readily affected by long-term frozen storage compared with frequent freezing-thawing, while CA19-9 is relatively unstable under both conditions.

RESUMO

Egg samples were collected from six different sources across Canada, and the yolks from those samples were analyzed for fatty acid composition using gas chromatography. Three yolk samples were from regularly fed chickens from three different Canadian egg processing plants, and the other three samples were from chickens fed with special diets. The specially fed chicken yolk samples were collected from three different Canadian egg producers. The three egg yolk samples from specially fed chickens had a significantly higher linolenic acid and docosahexaenoic acid content than the three regularly fed chicken yolk samples (P < 0.05). However, the arachidonic acid levels in the regularly fed chicken yolk samples were significantly higher (P < 0.05). In general, there was no significant difference among the three egg sources in each group. There was some variation in the fatty acid levels during different seasons for each source, but the difference was not statistically significant in most cases.
