RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Music therapy may have some potential in the pain control of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, and this meta-analysis aims to study the analgesic efficacy of music therapy for extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy. METHODS: We have searched several databases including PubMed, EMbase, Web of Science, EBSCO and Cochrane Library databases, and selected the randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the efficacy of music therapy for pain control of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy. This meta-analysis was conducted using the random-effect or fixed-effect model based on the heterogeneity. RESULTS: Ten RCTs and 879 patients were included in this meta-analysis. Compared with routine care for extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy, music therapy was associated with substantially reduced pain scores (standard mean difference [SMD] = -1.00; 95% CI = -1.57 to -0.42; P = .0007), improved patient satisfaction (SMD = 1.61; 95% CI = 0.45 to 2.77; P = .006) and willingness to repeat (SMD = 2.06; 95% CI = 0.40 to 3.72; P = .01), but had no influence on analgesic consumption (SMD = -3.11; 95% CI = -7.07 to 0.85; P = .12) or adverse events (OR = 1.66; 95% CI = 0.20 to 14.10; P = .64). CONCLUSIONS: Music therapy was effective to control the pain of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy.

RESUMO

The large surface area, excellent thermal stability and easy modification make microporous organic networks (MONs) good candidates in the field of gas chromatography (GC). Due to the limited species and highly conjugated networks of MONs, their applications are still in infancy and restricted. To accelerate their developments and to enrich their types in GC, here we report the first example of synthesizing alkyl MON and its capillary column for GC separation of position isomers. Linear 1,8-dibromooctane is used as the alkyl monomer instead of traditional aromatic ones to construct novel alkyl MON to decrease the inherent conjugated characteristic of MONs. The alkyl MON exhibits good thermal stability (up to 350°C), large surface area (1173 m2 g-1), and non-polar character, allowing good resolution for alkanes, alkyl benzenes, alcohols, ketones, and diverse position isomers, including dichlorobenzene, trichlorobenzene, bromotoluene, nitrotoluene, methylbenzaldehyde, and ionone with the limits of detection (0.003 mg mL-1) and limits of quantitation of (0.10 mg mL-1). The in situ growth-prepared alkyl MON column demonstrates remarkable duration time and precisions for the retention relative standard deviations, (RSDs%, intra-day, n = 7), 0.06%-0.53% (intra-day, n = 7), and 2.87%-10.59% (column-to-column, n = 3). In addition, the fabricated alkyl MON-coated capillary column offers better resolution than three commercial GC columns for the resolution of methylbenzaldehyde, bromotoluene, and chlorotoluene isomers. This work reveals the practicability for synthesizing alkyl MONs and demonstrates their prospects for position isomers separation.

RESUMO

Background: Rotavirus is globally recognized as an important cause of acute gastroenteritis in young children. Whereas previous studies focused more on sporadic diarrhea, the epidemiological characteristics of rotavirus outbreaks have not been systematically understood. Methods: This systematic review was carried out according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis standards, WANFANG, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), PubMed, and Web of Science databases were searched from database inception to February 20, 2022. We used SPSS 21.0 statistical software for data analysis, RStudio1.4.1717, and ArcGIS trial version for plotting bar graphs and maps. Results: Among 1,596 articles, 78 were included, with 92 rotavirus outbreaks and 96,128 cases. Most outbreaks (67.39%, 62/92) occurred in winter and spring. The number of rotavirus outbreaks reported in the eastern region was more than that in the western region. Outbreaks were most commonly reported in villages (33/92, 35.87%), followed by hospitals (19, 20.65%). The outbreak duration was longer in factories and workers' living places, and villages, while it was shorter in hospitals. Waterborne transmission was the main transmission mode, with the longest duration and the largest number of cases. Rotavirus groups were identified in 66 outbreaks, with 40 outbreaks (60.61%) caused by Group B rotaviruses and 26 outbreaks (39.39%) caused by Group A rotaviruses. Significant differences were found in duration, number of cases, settings, population distribution, and transmission modes between Groups A and B rotavirus outbreaks. Conclusion: Rotavirus is an important cause of acute gastroenteritis outbreaks in China. It should also be considered in the investigation of acute gastroenteritis outbreaks, especially norovirus-negative outbreaks.

RESUMO

Purpose: Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is inherently a complex inflammatory syndrome, and heightened inflammation is strongly associated with an increased risk of death. However, the association of systemic inflammation levels with total and cardiovascular death among patients with HFpEF remains unknown. We aimed to investigate the prognostic impact of systemic inflammation on all-cause and cardiovascular death among patients with HFpEF. Patients and Methods: Patients with HFpEF were included in this study. Systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) is defined as the multiplication of neutrophil and monocyte divided by lymphocyte count, and patients were divided into four groups based on SIRI quartiles. Cox regression models and competing risk models were used to examine the relationships between SIRI and total and cardiovascularspecific mortality, respectively. Results: 9,986 patients with HFpEF were included in five tertiary hospitals. During a median follow-up period of 4.4 years, a total of 2004 patients died, of which 965 were cardiovascular deaths. After fully adjusting for confounders, elevated SIRI level was significantly related to the increased risk of all-cause death (Q2, Q3, Q4: adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) [95 confidence interval (CI)%] =1.17[1.01-1.35], 1.31[1.13-1.52], 1.51[1.30-1.76], respectively; P for trend <0.001). The elevated quartile of SIRI showed higher risks of cardiovascular death, but there was no statistically significant increased risk of cardiovascular death across the lower SIRI quartile (model 3: Q2, Q3, Q4: aHR [95CI%] =1.22[0.99-1.51], 1.50[1.20-1.86], 1.73[1.37-2.18], respectively; P for trend <0.001). Conclusion: Elevated systemic inflammation level on admission was correlated with an increased risk of all-cause and cardiovascular death among patients with HFpEF. The SIRI may serve as a promising marker of risk stratification for patients with HFpEF.

RESUMO

What is already known on this topic?: Norovirus is the leading cause of global acute gastroenteritis outbreaks. Norovirus outbreaks mainly occur in schools and kindergartens in China, always causing public health issues. What is added by this report?: Conditional logistic regression method was used to analyze the risk factors for norovirus outbreaks in schools and kindergartens, and found that students vomiting at school or kindergarten, case activity in public areas, and the first case's classroom less than 5 meters from toilets were risk factors. What are the implications for public health practice?: Effective measures to address these factors can help reduce the risk of norovirus outbreaks in schools and kindergartens.

RESUMO

Introduction: Highly fluoroquinolone-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar Kentucky (S. Kentucky) of sequence type (ST) 198 has emerged as a global multidrug-resistant (MDR) clone, posing a threat to public health. Methods: Whole genome sequencing and antibiotic susceptibility testing was used to characterize the population structure and evolutionary history of 54 S. Kentucky isolates recovered from food and human clinical cases in Beijing from 2016 to 2023. Results: All 54 S. Kentucky ST198 isolates exhibited resistance to quinolones, carrying point mutations in the quinolone resistance-determining regions (gyrA_S83F and parC_S80I). Resistance to other antibiotics (folate pathway inhibitors, cephems, aminoglycosides, phenicols, rifamycin, fosfomycin, macrolides, and tetracyclines), mediated by the sul1, sul2, dfrA14, bla CTX-M, bla TEM-1B, aac(3)-Id, aadA2, aadA7, aph(3')-I, aph(3'')-Ib, rmtB, floR, arr-2, fosA, mph(A), and tet(A) genes, was also observed in different combinations. The Beijing S. Kentucky ST198 evolutionary tree was divided into clades 198.2-1 and 198.2-2, which were further differentiated into three subclades: 198.2-2A, 198.2-2B, and 198.2-2C. Compared with the extended-spectrum ß-lactamase-encoding gene bla CTX-M-14b in 198.2-1, the co-existence of bla CTX-M-55 and bla TEM-1B, as well as chromosomally located qnrS1, was detected in most 198.2-2 isolates, which showed more complex MDR phenotypes. S. Kentucky ST198 outbreak isolates derived from two predominant clonal sources: 198.2-1 with cgST236434 and 198.2-2A with cgST296405. Conclusions: The S. Kentucky population in Beijing is genetically diverse, consisting of multiple co-circulating lineages that have persisted since 2016. Strengthening surveillance of food and humans will aid in implementing measures to prevent and control the spread of AMR.

RESUMO

The functionalization of polyoxovanadate clusters is promising but of great challenge due to the versatile coordination geometry and oxidation state of vanadium. Here, two unprecedented silsesquioxane ligand-protected "fully reduced" polyoxovanadate clusters were fabricated via a facial solvothermal methodology. The initial mixture of the two polyoxovanadate clusters with different colors and morphologies (green plate V14 and blue block V6) was successfully separated as pure phases by meticulously controlling the assembly conditions. Therein, the V14 cluster is the highest-nuclearity V-silsesquioxane cluster to date. Moreover, the transformation from a dimeric silsesquioxane ligand-protected V14 cluster to a cyclic hexameric silsesquioxane ligand-protected V6 cluster was also achieved, and the possible mechanism termed "ligand-condensation-involved dissociation reassembly" was proposed to explain this intricate conversion process. In addition, the robust V6 cluster was served as a heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of important heterocyclic compounds, quinazolinones, starting from 2-aminobenzamide and aldehydes. The V6 cluster exhibits high activity and selectivity to access pure quinazolinones under mild conditions, where the high selectivity was attributed to the confinement effect of the macrocyclic silsesquioxane ligand constraining the molecular freedom of the reaction species. The stability and recyclability as well as the tolerance of a wide scope of aldehyde substrates endow the V6 cluster with a superior performance and appreciable potential in catalytic applications.

RESUMO

Coxsackievirus A16 (CV-A16) is a significant etiologic agent of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) and herpangina (HA), with the capacity to progress to severe complications, including encephalitis, aseptic meningitis, acute flaccid paralysis, myocarditis, and other critical conditions. Beijing's epidemiological surveillance system, established in 2008, encompasses 29 hospitals and 16 district disease control centers. From 2019 to 2021, the circulation of CV-A16 was characterized by the co-circulation of B1a and B1b clades. Multiple cases of HFMD linked to clade B1c has not been reported in Beijing until 2022. This study enrolled 400 HFMD and 493 HA cases. Employing real-time RT-PCR, 368 enterovirus-positive cases were identified, with 180 selected for sequencing. CV-A16 was detected in 18.89% (34/180) of the cases, second only to CV-A6, identified in 63.33% (114/180). Full-length VP1 gene sequences were successfully amplified and sequenced in 22 cases, revealing the presence of clades B1a, B1b, and B1c in 14, 3, and 5 cases, respectively. A cluster of five B1c clade cases occurred between June 29 and July 17, 2022, within a 7-km diameter region in Shunyi District. Phylogenetic analysis of five complete VP1 gene sequences and two full-genome sequences revealed close clustering with the 2018 Indian strain (GenBank accession: MH780757.1) within the B1c India branch, with NCBI BLAST results showing over 98% similarity. Comparative sequence analysis identified three unique amino acid variations (P3S, V25A, and I235V). The 2022 Shunyi District HFMD cases represent the first instances of spatiotemporally correlated CV-A16 B1c clade infections in Beijing, underscoring the necessity for heightened surveillance of B1c clade CV-A16 in HFMD and HA in this region.

RESUMO

Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is the efficiency limiting half-reaction in water electrolysis for green hydrogen production due to the 4-electron multistep process with sluggish kinetics. The electrooxidation of thermodynamically more favorable organics accompanied by CC coupling is a promising way to synthesize value-added chemicals instead of OER. Efficient catalyst is of paramount importance to fulfill such a goal. Herein, a molybdenum iron carbide-copper hybrid (Mo2C-FeCu) was designed as anodic catalyst, which demonstrated decent OER catalytic capability with low overpotential of 238 mV at response current density of 10 mA cm-2 and fine stability. More importantly, the Mo2C-FeCu enabled electrooxidation assisted aldol condensation of phenylcarbinol with α-H containing alcohol/ketone in weak alkali electrolyte to selective synthesize cinnamaldehyde/benzalacetone at reduced potential. The hydroxyl and superoxide intermediate radicals generated at high potential are deemed to be responsible for the electrooxidation of phenylcarbinol and aldol condensation reactions to afford cinnamaldehyde/benzalacetone. The current work showcases an electrochemical-chemical combined CC coupling reaction to prepare organic chemicals, we believe more widespread organics can be synthesized by tailored electrochemical reactions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Recipient-area perifollicular erythema (RPE) may delay graft growth after hair transplantation. However, there is currently a lack of observational clinical studies of RPE. OBJECTIVE: To study the clinical features and risk factors associated with RPE while analyzing its correlation with graft growth. METHODS: We conducted a multicenter retrospective cohort study between June 2020 and January 2023. RESULTS: A total of 1090 participants were included, 178 (16.33%) showed mild RPE, 56 (5.14%) showed moderate RPE, and 10 (0.92%) showed severe RPE. Patients with RPE had severe hair shaft shedding (P < 0.001) and a lower survival rate (P < 0.001) of grafts. Logistic regression analysis showed that folliculitis is a significant risk factor for mild RPE (OR 6.061, 95% CI 3.343-10.991, P < 0.001) and moderate RPE (OR 3.397, 95% CI 1.299-8.882, P = 0.013). Besides, untimely first postoperative hair washing was associated with the development of moderate RPE (OR 0.724, 95% CI 0.553-0.947, P = 0.018) and severe RPE (OR 1.553, 95% CI 1.156-2.086, P = 0.003). CONCLUSION: RPE is a postoperative complication closely related to high hair shaft shedding proportion and low graft survival rate. Both postoperative folliculitis and untimely first postoperative hair washing may induce the occurrence of RPE. RESUMO

To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of group A rotavirus (RVA) diarrhea in Beijing between 2019 and 2022 and evaluate the effectiveness of the RV5 vaccine. Stool specimens were collected from patients with acute diarrhea, and RVA was detected and genotyped. The whole genome of RVA was sequenced by fragment amplification and Sanger sequencing. Phylogenetic trees were constructed using Bayesian and maximum likelihood methods. Descriptive epidemiological methods were used to analyze the characteristics of RVA diarrhea. Test-negative design was used to evaluate the vaccine effectiveness (VE) of the RV5. Compared with 2011-2018, RVA-positive rates in patients with acute diarrhea under 5 years of age and adults decreased significantly between 2019 and 2022, to 9.45% (249/634) and 3.66% (220/6016), respectively. The predominant genotype of RVA had changed from G9-VIP[8]-III between 2019 and 2021 to G8-VP[8]-III in 2022, and P[8] sequences from G8-VP[8]-III strains formed a new branch called P[8]-IIIb. The complete genotype of G8-VP[8]-III was G8-P[8]-I2-R2-C2-M2-A2-N2-T2-E2-H2. The VE of 3 doses of RV5 was 90.4% (95% CI: 28.8%-98.7%) against RVA diarrhea. The prevalence of RVA decreased in Beijing between 2019 and 2022, and the predominant genotype changed to G8P[8], which may be related to RV5 vaccination. Continuous surveillance is necessary to evaluate vaccine effectiveness and improve vaccine design.

RESUMO

Herein, two atomically precise silver nanoclusters, Ag54 and Ag33, directed by inner anion templates (CrO4 2- and/or Cl-), are initially isolated as a mixed phase from identical reactants across a wide temperature range (20-80 °C). Interestingly, fine-tuning the reaction temperature can realize pure phase synthesis of the two nanoclusters; that is, a metastable Ag54 is kinetically formed at a low temperature (20 °C), whereas such a system is steered towards a thermodynamically stable Ag33 at a relatively high temperature (80 °C). Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry illustrates that the stability of Ag33 is superior to that of Ag54, which is further supported by density functional theory calculations. Importantly, the difference in structural stability can influence the pathway of 1,4-bis(pyrid-4-yl)benzene induced transformation reaction starting from Ag54 and Ag33. The former undergoes a dramatic breakage-reorganization process to form an Ag31 dimer (Ag31), while the same product can be also achieved from the latter following a noninvasive ligand exchange process. Both the Ag54 and Ag33 have the potential for further remote laser ignition applications. This work not only demonstrates how temperature controls the isolation of a specific phase, but also sheds light on the structural transformation pathway of nanoclusters with different stability.

RESUMO

Atomically precise superatomic copper nanoclusters (Cu NCs) have been the subject of immense interest for their intriguing structures and diverse properties; nonetheless, the variable oxidation state of copper ions and complex solvation effects in wet synthesis systems pose significant challenges for comprehending their synthesis and crystallization mechanism. Herein, we present a solvent-mediated approach for the synthesis of two Cu NCs, namely, superatomic Cu26 and pure-Cu(I) Cu16. They initially formed as a hetero-phase and then separated as a homo-phase via modulating binary solvent composition. In situ UV/vis absorption and electrospray ionization mass spectra revealed that the solvent-mediated assembly was determined to be the underlying mechanism of hetero/homo-phase crystallization. Cu26 is a 2-electron superatom with a kernel-shell structure that includes a [Cu20Se12]4- shell and [Cu6]4+ kernel, containing two 1S jellium electrons. Conversely, Cu16 is a pure-Cu(I) Cu/Se nanocluster that features a [Cu16Se6]4+ core protected by extra dimercaptomaleonitrile ligands. Remarkably, Cu26 exhibits unique near-infrared phosphorescence (NIR PH) at 933 nm due to the presence of a superatomic kernel-related charge transfer state (3MM(Cu)CT). Overall, this work not only showcases the hetero/homo-phase crystallization of Cu NCs driven by a solvent-mediated assembly mechanism but also enables the rare occurrence of NIR PH within the 2-electron copper superatom family.

RESUMO

H2 and formate are important energy carriers in fuel-cells and feedstocks in chemical industry. The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) coupling with electro-oxidative cleavage of thermodynamically favorable polyols is a promising way to coproduce H2 and formate via electrochemical means, highly active catalysts for HER and electrooxidative cleavage of polycols are the key to achieve such a goal. Herein, molybdenum (Mo), tungsten (W) doped cobalt phosphides (Co2P) deposited onto nickel foam (NF) substrate, denoted as Mo-Co2P/NF and W-Co2P/NF, respectively, were investigated as catalytic electrodes for HER and electrochemical glycerol oxidation reaction (GOR) to yield H2 and formate. The W-Co2P/NF electrode exhibited low overpotential (η) of 113 mV to attain a current density (J) of -100 mA cm-2 for HER, while the Mo-Co2P/NF electrode demonstrated high GOR efficiency for selective production of formate. In situ Raman and infrared spectroscopic characterizations revealed that the evolved CoO2 from Co2P is the genuine catalytic sites for GOR. The asymmetric electrolyzer based on W-Co2P/NF cathode and Mo-Co2P/NF anode delivered a J = 100 mA cm-2 at 1.8 V voltage for glycerol electrolysis, which led to 18.2 % reduced electricity consumption relative to water electrolysis. This work highlights the potential of heteroelement doped phosphide in catalytic performances for HER and GOR, and opens up new avenue to coproduce more widespread commodity chemicals via gentle and sustainable electrocatalytic means.

RESUMO

Video compression is indispensable to most video analysis systems. Despite saving the transportation bandwidth, it also deteriorates downstream video understanding tasks, especially at low-bitrate settings. To systematically investigate this problem, we first thoroughly review the previous methods, revealing that three principles, i.e., task-decoupled, label-free, and data-emerged semantic prior, are critical to a machine-friendly coding framework but are not fully satisfied so far. In this paper, we propose a traditional-neural mixed coding framework that simultaneously fulfills all these principles, by taking advantage of both traditional codecs and neural networks (NNs). On one hand, the traditional codecs can efficiently encode the pixel signal of videos but may distort the semantic information. On the other hand, highly non-linear NNs are proficient in condensing video semantics into a compact representation. The framework is optimized by ensuring that a transportation-efficient semantic representation of the video is preserved w.r.t. the coding procedure, which is spontaneously learned from unlabeled data in a self-supervised manner. The videos collaboratively decoded from two streams (codec and NN) are of rich semantics, as well as visually photo-realistic, empirically boosting several mainstream downstream video analysis task performances without any post-adaptation procedure. Furthermore, by introducing the attention mechanism and adaptive modeling scheme, the video semantic modeling ability of our approach is further enhanced. Fianlly, we build a low-bitrate video understanding benchmark with three downstream tasks on eight datasets, demonstrating the notable superiority of our approach. All codes, data, and models will be open-sourced for facilitating future research.

RESUMO

Nucleotide-binding sites and leucine-rich repeat proteins (NLRs) act as critical intracellular immune receptors. Previous studies reported an Arabidopsis-resistant gene L3 (AT1G15890), which encoded a coiled-coil (CC) NLR that conferred cell death in bacteria; however, its function in planta remains unclear. This study describes a comprehensive structure-function analysis of L3 in Nicotiana benthamiana. The results of the transient assay showed that the L3 CC domain is sufficient for cell-death induction. The first 140 amino acid segment constituted the minimal function region that could cause cell death. The YFP-labeled L3 CC domain was localized to the plasma membrane, which was considered crucial for the function and self-interaction of the L3 CC domain. The results of point mutations analysis showed that L3 CC domain function is affected by mutations in some specific residues, and loss-of-function mutations in the CC domain affected the function of full-length L3. These study results offered considerable evidence to understand the activation mechanism of L3.

RESUMO

Norovirus (NoV) is a major cause of acute gastroenteritis outbreaks worldwide. A comprehensive understanding of the transmission mode is of great significance for the prevention and control of the NoV infection. Currently, the transmission modes of NoV include contact, food-borne, water-borne and aerosol transmission. The first three modes are more common, while aerosol transmission is seldom reported. In this paper, the source, generation mechanism, infectivity, sampling and related outbreaks of NoV aerosol are summarized and discussed.

Objective@#To analyze the epidemiological and molecular characteristics of norovirus outbreaks in schools in Xicheng District of Beijing from 2017 to 2022, so as to provide evidence for the prevention and control of norovirus outbreaks in schools.@*Methods@#Data of norovirus outbreaks in schools in Xicheng District, Beijing during 2017 to 2022 were collected and analyzed by descriptive epidemiological methods. Realtime PCR was used to detect the nucleic acid of group GⅠand GⅡnorovirus, the positive norovirus nucleic acid samples were sent to Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention for molecular typing.@*Results@#From 2017 to 2022, 185 norovirus outbreaks were reported in schools in Xicheng District, including 166 cluster outbreaks and 19 outbreaks. A total of 2 044 cases were reported, with a total attack rate of 13.92%. There were two peaks in the outbreak time, which were from March to June after the spring semester and from October to December after autumn semester. Primary schools were the most common place of occurrence (101 cases), followed by nursery institutions (68 cases) and secondary schools (16 cases). There were statistically significant differences in the incidence rates among different sites(12.37%, 22.78%, 8.47%, χ2=263.34, P<0.01). There were significant differences in the incidence of vomiting, diarrhea, nausea and stomachache among different students (χ2=263.33, 90.58, 20.42, 30.29, P<0.01). Vomiting was the main symptom in primary school and nursery school children (96.41%, 98.28%), and the diarrhea rate was higher in middle school students (68.22%). The outbreaks were mainly caused by type GⅡ norovirus. The genotype from 2017 to 2021 showed the characteristics of diversity, mainly GⅡ.2[P16], but there was no significant advantage for the GⅡ.2 [P16] during 2019 to 2021.@*Conclusions@#The norovirus outbreak in schools in Xicheng district of Beijing from 2017 to 2022 are mainly caused by GⅡ type genome. The main genotype is GⅡ.2[P16]. Norovirus infection mainly occurred in primary schools and kindergartens. For the vulnerable populations, it is necessary to improve the capacity to early identification, student infectious disease management, active infection control and prevention measures, and pathogen surveillance and sporadic case monitoring.

RESUMO

Interface engineering of heterostructures has emerged as a promising approach to enhance the catalytic activity of nonprecious electrocatalysts. Herein, a novel amorphous cobalt sulfide-crystalline nickel iron layered double hydroxide (a-CoS@NiFe-LDH) hybrid material is presented for application as an electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Benefitting from the well-matched energy level structures, the a-CoS@NiFe-LDH catalyst delivers a low overpotential of 221 ± 14 mV at an OER current density of 20 mA cm-2 and a small Tafel slope of 83.1 mV dec-1, showing good OER properties. First-principle computations reveal that the electronic interaction between amorphous cobalt sulfide (a-CoS) and crystalline nickel iron layered double hydroxide (NiFe-LDH) components within a-CoS@NiFe-LDH promotes the adsorbate evolution mechanism and reduces the adsorption energies for oxygen intermediates, thereby enhancing the activity and stability for OER. This work opens up a new avenue to enhance the OER catalytic efficiency via the construction of amorphous-crystalline heterostructures.

RESUMO

Deciphering the facet-dependent surface properties of clay minerals holds vital significance in both fundamental research and practical engineering applications. To date, the anisotropic local charge density of serpentine surfaces still remains elusive, and thus, the interaction energies and associated aggregate structures between different crystal planes of serpentine cannot be quantitatively determined. In this work, different crystal planes of serpentine (i.e., SiO basal, MgOH basal, and edge) were selectively exposed, and their surface potentials and charge densities were determined using atomic force microscopy (AFM) force measurements coupled with Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (DLVO) theory fitting. The SiO and edge planes consistently exhibited a permanently negative surface charge, whereas the point of zero charge (PZC) on the MgOH plane was estimated to be pH 9.0-11.0. Based on the interaction energy calculation between different serpentine planes, the aggregation structures of serpentine were predicted. Combined with scanning electron microscopy observation of freeze-dried samples, SiO-MgOH and MgOH-edge associations were found to dominate the aggregate structures at pH ≤ 9.0, thereby resulting in a stacking or "card-houses" structures. In contrast, all of the plane associations exhibited the repulsive interaction energy at pH 11.0, which led to a completely dispersed system, ultimately causing the most severe fine particle entrainment during froth flotation. Our work provides quantitative clarification of facet-dependent surface properties and aggregate structures of serpentine under different pH conditions, which will help improve the fundamental understanding of colloidal behaviors of clay minerals.
