RESUMO
Halogenated compounds used in anesthetics are generally detected and monitored by gas chromatography or infrared analysis. For a quick, reliable, and economical method of detecting these compounds, the HLD-440 leak detector proved to be effective. The instrument is simple to calibrate and operate. It is safe and is capable of detecting halogenated anesthetics in concentrations at least as low as 2 parts per million.

RESUMO
We assessed several modifications of thin-layer chromatography for evaluation of amniotic fluid lecithin/sphingomyelin ratios. For a procedure which is reliable, economical, and easy to perform, we preferred laboratory-prepared plates using SI-LICAR TLC-7GF. For spot detection, we preferred the iodine vapor method.
