RESUMO

In a double-blind clinical trial 28 patients with primary and recurrent herpetic corneal ulcerations were treated either with 3% Acyclovir eye ointment or 3% Adenosine Arabinoside eye ointment. In 11 out of 14 (78%) patients treated with Acyclovir and 8 out of 14 (57%) patients treated with Adenosine Arabinoside the ulcerations healed within a treatment period of 6.5 days and 8 days respectively (no statistical significance). However, the results revealed that Acyclovir was more effective. Both drugs were well tolerated.

RESUMO

48 patients witha diagnosis of presumptive bacterial conjunctivitis were assessed. They had been treated with either trimethoprim-polymyxin or neomycin-polymyxin-gramicidin eye drops in a randomised double-blind trial. There were 24 patients in each treatment group. There were no significant differences between the two preparations proved with regard to the eradication of organisms or clinical improvement, and both preparations proved to be very effective. Patient compliance was good and no adverse reactions were encountered with either preparation.

RESUMO

The different methods of reconstructing obliterated lacrimal canaliculi are described. At the Eye Clinic in Erlangen Henderson's method is prefered. Into a new canal between the lacrimal punctum and the lacrimal sac a tube of polyethylene is introduced and remains there for some weeks. About 60% of the reconstruction lacrimal canaliculi were still open after months and years.

RESUMO

Experiments in animals and the employment of the contrast medium in a number of patients showed, that Dimer-X is well tolerated. No negative side effects were observed during the study. Employing only a little quantity of the medium, diluted with distilled water in the ratio of 1:3 or 1:4, good contrast representations are obtainable in the tissue of the orbits. It is completely absorbed within a relatively short period.

RESUMO

Electromanometric measurements of blood pressure and intraocular pressure, carried out in rabbits after the intravenous administration of Norphen, Peripherin, Sympatol, Hydergin, Tropodil, Complamin, Euphyllin and Vasculat showed that the changes in the pressure curves were largely in the same sense. Apart from a "passive" correlation of the intraocular pressure with the blood pressure, the local effects of pharmaceuticals administered are also discussed. The results obtained provide both general medicine and ophthalmology with insights into the mode of action of drugs, some of which are frequently administered. In addition, they serve both to provide information on the desirable curative effects of the drugs and to help prevent damage being done to the organ of sight.
