RESUMO

The objective of the present work was to describe the successful surgical treatment of the peri-lymphatic round window fistula of the labyrinth in the 9 year old child. The authors briefly mention the difficulties of diagnostics of the peri-lymphatic labyrinthine fistulas in the children and the signs suggesting their presence with special reference to the optimal strategies for their treatment.

RESUMO

In order to estimate toxicity of a novel composition, enterosorbent "ultrasorb", its toxic properties were studied in trials on experimental animals (white rats, mice, guinea pigs). Great variety of hematolytic, biochemical and pathohistologic parameters were determined to evaluate homeostasis. As a result of toxicity trials in acute and subacute experiments as well as in embryotoxic, teratogenic and allergic tests we have concluded that enterosorbent "Ultrasorb" is absolutely harmless and can be recommended for further trials in clinics.

RESUMO

Adsorption of some bile acids and cholesterol from simulated solutions and body fluids by medical carbons of different origin has been studied in order to elucidate the role of adsorption in cholesterol reduction as well as in prophylaxis and treatment of atherosclerosis by orally applied carbon adsorbents. Oxidized carbons modified by different metal cations were tested for the first time for their ability to correct the saline composition of body fluids.

RESUMO

The kinetics of bile acids (BA) and cholesterol adsorption from biological fluids (bile) and reference solutions on carbon SCN were compared with conventional medical carbon with the view of elucidating the role of adsorption in improving cholesterol metabolism. It was found that the adsorptive capacity of carbon adsorbents is determined, primarily, by their porous structure as well by the chemical properties of the adsorbing surface. The enterosorbents were tested both in experimental animals and in clinical trials and are now successfully employed for preventing and treating atherosclerosis as well as for normalizing lipid metabolism. A procedure for surgical treatment combined with adsorptive detoxication (enterosorption) for patients with obstructive jaundice has been developed.
