[Intrauterine torsion of the spermatic cord]. / Torsione intrauterina del cordone spermatico.

Description of a clinical case diagnosed in the first hours of life in apparently well newborn. Diagnostic suspicion by palpation and transillumination. Absence of any subjective sign. Inspective symptom the light scrotal swelling. The neonate received an immediate surgical exploration with subsequent orchiectomy.

[2 cases of fibroepithelial polyp of the ureter]. / Due casi di polipo fibroepiteliale dell'uretere.

Fibroepithelial polyps of the ureter, a mesodermal benign tumor, are rare. The first case of a fibroepithelial ureteral polyp associated with bilateral complete ureteral duplication and another case associated with bilateral hydronephrosis are reported. The first case suggested a malformative congenital etiology. The two fibroepithelial polyps were treated by conservative surgery.

[Changes in the plasma levels of T3-T4 and TSH during surgical stress and anesthesia with isoflurane]. / Modificazioni dei livelli plasmatici della T3-T4 e del TSH in corso di stress chirurgico ed anestesia con isoflurano.

The authors describe the blood level changes of T3, T4 and TSH in 17 patients undergoing urological surgery and isoflurane anaesthesia. The data were statistically processed and showed that isoflurane, used as the only anesthetic agent in 1.5%-2% concentrations, is not sufficient to block hormonal changes of the hypothalamus-hypophysis-thyroid axis caused by surgical stress.

Two cases of leiomyosarcoma of the spermatic cord are reported. Prognostic factors and therapy of this kind of tumors are discussed.

[Aspecific granulomatous prostatitis. Our experience]. / La prostatite granulomatosa aspecifica. Nostra esperienza.

The clinical and anatomopathological features of 7 personally observed cases of granulomatous prostatitis are described. The possibility of confusion between this pathology and cancer of the prostate is pointed out. This is particularly the case when the entire gland is inflammed and only bioptic examination will confirm the diagnosis. The symptoms mostly related to the cervicourethral obstruction, the diagnostic procedure and the treatment, prevalently medical, adopted in each are described.

The usefulness of sequential isotopic angiography of the scrotum for study of the varicocele.

132 patients were examined by Sequential Isotopic Scrotal Angiography (SISA) to determine whether or not they had primary varicoceles. The results with SISA were more reliable than those of clinical examination and scrotal telethermography. It is a rapid, simple and essentially harmless procedure that also provides pictures that can clearly present the situation to the patient. The principal indications for the examination are to confirm the presence of small varicoceles and to look for clinically non-detectable (subclinical) varicoceles.

[Our experience in preoperative embolization in kidney neoplasms]. / La nostra esperienza sull'embolizzazione preoperatoria nei tumori renali.

11 cases of preoperative embolization with Spongostan in renal tumours are reported. Contraindications, indications and the by no means negligible advantages which application of this technique offers the surgeon are discussed briefly.
