RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study describes a quality improvement (QI) process to reduce bias and increase inclusion and equity in the recruitment of health service psychology interns in an American Psychological Association-accredited psychology internship program at a national children's hospital. METHODS: This QI project utilized two Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles targeting the application review and the interview processes primarily using supervisor engagement and feedback to inform these processes. The goal of the PDSA cycles was to increase diversity in psychology doctoral interns offered interviews and ultimately recruited to the internship program. RESULTS: The application rating form was revised to place a greater emphasis on factors related to diversity, such as increasing the number of points applicants could earn for being bilingual. Regarding the interview process, structured interview questions were created, and a new, unified rubric was used to score interviewees. The changes in demographics of applicants selected for interviews and feedback from applicants who interviewed are reported. CONCLUSIONS: The QI process resulted in tangible changes to improve equitable and inclusive internship recruitment. Lessons learned throughout this process included the need for continual auditing of practices through an equity lens, engaging supervisors at all stages of the process, and implementing incremental actions.

RESUMO

The control of the second coordination sphere in a coordination complex plays an important role in improving catalytic efficiency. Herein, we report a zinc porphyrin complex ZnPor8T with multiple flexible triazole units comprising the second coordination sphere, as an electrocatalyst for the highly selective electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2 ) to carbon monoxide (CO). This electrocatalyst converted CO2 to CO with a Faradaic efficiency of 99 % and a current density of -6.2 mA cm-2 at -2.4 V vs. Fc/Fc+ in N,N-dimethylformamide using water as the proton source. Structure-function relationship studies were carried out on ZnPor8T analogs containing different numbers of triazole units and distinct triazole geometries; these unveiled that the triazole units function cooperatively to stabilize the CO2 -catalyst adduct in order to facilitate intramolecular proton transfer. Our findings demonstrate that incorporating triazole units that function in a cooperative manner is a versatile strategy to enhance the activity of electrocatalytic CO2 conversion.

RESUMO

This article reviews the available literature regarding the interaction between child and adolescent anxiety and electronic media. It reviews current research contributing to understanding of the correlation of youth anxiety with engagement in social media and other online platforms, including risk and protective factors. mHealth and eHealth prevention and treatment options, available via various digital resources, are discussed. Suggestions for mental health clinicians' assessment of client's online behaviors and a review of novel treatment options are provided. The article concludes with proposing healthy online technology interventions, including popups for overuse and identification of digitally enhanced posts.

RESUMO

Based on a multidimensional model of sexual identity development, the current study examined self-labeling, romantic, and sexual experiences among middle and late adolescent sexual minorities. Eighty-two youths between the ages of 14 and 21 were recruited from gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) community centers and associated Internet groups. Differences between males and females and between middle and late adolescents were first examined. Males reported markedly different patterns of self-labeling and romantic experiences, relative to females, but few age differences emerged. Additionally, patterns of association between self-labeling and sexual or romantic experiences provided support for the multidimensional model of identity development and exploration. Finally, significant associations emerged between relationship experiences and relational competency, such that adolescents who described themselves as isolated from intimate interpersonal relationships reported less relational esteem and more relational depression than those who reported predominantly engaging in same-sex romantic relationships. In addition, alternative styles of engaging in interpersonal relationships (e.g., same-sex intimate friendships, heterosexual dating) also were also associated with increased relational competency.
