RESUMO

Our results showed, that EPR method using DMPO spin-trapping is characterized with high sensitivity, which enables to define anti oxidative activity of very small concentration of major antioxidants in Georgian and foreign red and white wines and in red wine. It was concluded, that red as well as white wines have very high anti oxidative activities. Herewith it has to be mentioned, that anti oxidative activity of red wine does not always correlate with the total concentration of phenol in it and mostly depends on the concentration of different major antioxidants. This was showed up in the results of modeling process for the wine "Nika". If adding concentration of predefined major antioxidants to the wine "Nika", a good correlation with the total anti oxidative activity was showed up.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to determine the diagnostic value Pap smear test and colposcopy in Georgian National Screening Center, evaluation of efficiency of the excisional treatment and determining the main risk factors for prediction of residual/recurrent disease in patients with high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. We retrospectively analyzed 613 patients, who underwent excisional treatment of the cervix (LEEP). Follow-up was performed by Pap smear test, colposcopy and histamorphological examinations. Accuracy of Pap smear test and colposcopy prior to the the excisional treatment revealed Pap: Se 83.4%; Sp 76.4%; PPV 72.6%; NPV76.8%; Colposcopy: Se 83.4%; Sp 69.4%; PPV 69.3%; NPV 80.6%; After the excisional treatment: Pap: Se 82.8%; Sp 92.3%; PPV 61.5%; NPV 97.3%; Colposcopy: Se 62.1%; Sp 80.4%; PPV 32.1%; NPV 93.4%. After LEEP colposcopy is less sensitive than before LEEP. After LEEP sensitivity of the Pap smear test exceeds the sensitivity of the colposcopy. Forty one (18.4%) of 223 patients had residual/recurrent lesion during follow-up. According to univariate analysis the patient's age ≥40 years (p<0.01) OR 3.2 (95% CI 1.3-8.4), transformation zone type III (p<0.01) OR 5.0 (95% CI 2.1-11.5), endocervical gland involvement (p<0.01) OR 6.2 (95% CI 2.7 - 15.1 ), smoking status (p<0.001) OR 7.7 (95% CI 3.336-17.8), major abnormal cytology (p<0.05) OR 2.72 (95% CI 0.963-9.512) were significant risk factors for residual/recurrent disease. However, gravidity, parity, severity of disease and positive margins were not relevant factors for the residual/recurrent disease (P>0.05). Consideration and implementation of these predictive factors in patient surveillance protocol will allow avoiding delayed treatment or overtreatment.

RESUMO

The aim of the study was to investigate the kinetics of photo-induced free radicals in the human hair chestnut color with short-term exposure to visible light in different frequency ranges. Studies carried out on human volunteers aged 17-21 years (n=37). Hairs of volunteers of the study were not treated with dyes and other active cosmetic preparations. Hairs bundled in a bun had a length - 1.5 cm, weight - 40 mg. At the beginning background EPR-spectrum of a sample was measured and then hairs were irradiated with visible light (blue, green, red and white) of different wavelength subsequently; exposure duration - 60 minutes; after the exposure the kinetics of photo-induced free radicals was measured within 60 minutes. The radiation source was selected LED array of the four crystals that provides a nearly monochromatic radiation spectrum having no parasitic infrared and ultraviolet radiations. The studies give a reason to assume that the impact on hairs by visible electromagnetic rays a leading factor is their frequency characteristics: on the one hand - the proximity of the blue light to ultraviolet radiation, and on the other - the red light to the infrared range.

RESUMO

The EPR spectra of melanin's free radicals in natural black and red hair have been investigated. It is show that the EPR spectrum of black hair is slightly asymmetric singlet with g=2,0035 and ΔH=0,5 mTl. The EPR spectrum of red hair with g=2,0053 differs from the spectrum of black hair. Under the influence of visible (blue with λ(max)=450 nm) in both types of hair (black and red), the protoinduced free radicals appear, which indicates an increase in the intensity of already existing EPR spectrum of hair. It should be noted that the EPR spectra of red hair from various donors are different. The antioxidant ascorbic acid has the different effect on the photoinduced free radicals. In particular, in the case of black hair, the concentration of photoinduced free radicals is slightly reduced, whereas in red hair, the disappearance of the triplet in the spectrum is observed, and at the same time, the spectrum becomes a singlet, the intensity of which increases sharply.

RESUMO

The stability of albumin-bilirubin complex was investigated depending on pH of solution. It was shown that the stability of complex increases in presence of Mn (II) ions. It was also investigated the paramagnetic composition of gallstones by the Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) method. It was found that all investigated gallstones contain a free bilirubin radical-the stable product of its radical oxidation. Accordingly the paramagnetic composition gallstones could be divided on three main types: cholesterol, brown pigment and black pigment stones. ESR spectra of cholesterol stones is singlet with g=2.003 and Delta H=1.0 mT. At the same time the brown gallstones, besides aforementioned signal contain the ESR spectrum which is characteristic for Mn(II) ion complexes with inorganic compounds and, finally, in the black pigment stones it was found out Fe(III) and Cu(II) complexes with organic compounds and a singlet of bilirubin free radical. It is supposed that crystallization centers of gallstones could be the polymer network of bilirubin radical polymerization in complex with different metal ions.

RESUMO

The aim of the study was elaboration of a new minimally invasive but effective alternative method of BPH treatment. The experiments were carried out on 46 male dogs divided into two equal groups. 10 ml of Prostalyser-1 solution (natrii chloridi 9.5 g, dimethylsulfoxidi 0.5 g, aquae destill. Ad 1000.0 g) was given in a single injection into the prostates of the first group of animals. The same volume of Prostalyser-2 solution (spiritus ethilicus 96% - 76.5 g, DMSO 0.5 g, aq.destill ad 100.0 g)--into the prostates of the other group, respectively. The temperature of the solutions was +80 degrees C. Within the first 2 months, essential disorders were observed in the cellular Na-pump, membrane permeability system, there were lobular and diffusive necroses in prostatic alveolar epithelium and a decrease of the prostate weight by 68-66%. This condition of the prostate persisted for 4-6 months. Prostalyser-1 and Prostalyser-2 solutions can be recommended as very prospective substances for chemical destruction of the prostate in case of BPH.
