RESUMO

We have investigated the illumination effect on the magnetotransport properties of a two-dimensional electron system at the LaAlO3/SrTiO3interface. The illumination significantly reduces the zero-field sheet resistance, eliminates the Kondo effect at low-temperature, and switches the negative magnetoresistance into the positive one. A large increase in the density of high-mobility carriers after illumination leads to quantum oscillations in the magnetoresistance originating from the Landau quantization. The carrier density (∼2 × 1012 cm-2) and effective mass (∼1.7me) estimated from the oscillations suggest that the high-mobility electrons occupy thedxz/yzsubbands of Ti:t2gorbital extending deep within the conducting sheet of SrTiO3. Our results demonstrate that the illumination which induces additional carriers at the interface can pave the way to control the Kondo-like scattering and study the quantum transport in the complex oxide heterostructures.

RESUMO

We report on the stability of the quantum Hall plateau in wide Hall bars made from a chemically gated graphene film grown on SiC. The ν=2 quantized plateau appears from fields B≃5 T and persists up to B≃80 T. At high current density, in the breakdown regime, the longitudinal resistance oscillates with a 1/B periodicity and an anomalous phase, which we relate to the presence of additional electron reservoirs. The high field experimental data suggest that these reservoirs induce a continuous increase of the carrier density up to the highest available magnetic field, thus enlarging the quantum plateaus. These in-plane inhomogeneities, in the form of high carrier density graphene pockets, modulate the quantum Hall effect breakdown and decrease the breakdown current.

RESUMO

We report a theoretical study of the exchange interaction effects in the electron spin resonance (ESR) in n-type narrow-gap quantum well (QW) heterostructures. Using the Hartree-Fock approximation, based on the eight-band k⋅p Hamiltonian, the many-body correction to the ESR energy is found to be nonzero, providing theoretical evidence of Larmor theorem violation in symmetric narrow-gap QWs. We predict the exchange enhancement of the ESR g-factor and its divergence in low magnetic fields. The 'enhanced' ESR g-factor and quasiparticle g-factor, measured in magnetotransport, coincide at even-valued filling factors of the Landau levels in moderate and quantizing magnetic fields.

RESUMO

Using the 'screened' Hartree-Fock approximation based on the eight-band k·p Hamiltonian, we have extended our previous work (Krishtopenko et al 2011 J. Phys.: Condens. Matter 23 385601) on exchange enhancement of the g-factor in narrow-gap quantum well heterostructures by calculating the exchange renormalization of quasiparticle energies, the density of states at the Fermi level and the quasiparticle g-factor for different Landau levels overlapping. We demonstrate that exchange interaction yields more pronounced Zeeman splitting of the density of states at the Fermi level and leads to the appearance of peak-shaped features in the dependence of the Landau level energies on the magnetic field at integer filling factors. We also find that the quasiparticle g-factor does not reach the maximum value at odd filling factors in the presence of large overlapping of spin-split Landau levels. We advance an argument that the behavior of the quasiparticle g-factor in weak magnetic fields is defined by a random potential of impurities in narrow-gap heterostructures.

RESUMO

By using high-magnetic fields (up to 60 T), we observe compelling evidence of the integer quantum Hall effect in trilayer graphene. The magnetotransport fingerprints are similar to those of the graphene monolayer, except for the absence of a plateau at a filling factor of ν=2. At a very low filling factor, the Hall resistance vanishes due to the presence of mixed electron and hole carriers induced by disorder. The measured Hall resistivity plateaus are well reproduced theoretically, using a self-consistent Hartree calculations of the Landau levels and assuming an ABC stacking order of the three layers.

RESUMO

We report on the study of the exchange enhancement of the g-factor in the two-dimensional (2D) electron gas in n-type narrow-gap semiconductor heterostructures. Our approach is based on the eight-band k⋅p Hamiltonian and takes into account the band nonparabolicity, the lattice deformation, the spin-orbit coupling and the Landau level broadening in the δ-correlated random potential model. Using the 'screened' Hartree-Fock approximation we demonstrate that the exchange g-factor enhancement not only shows maxima at odd values of Landau level filling factors but, due to the conduction band nonparabolicity, persists at even filling factor values as well. The magnitude of the exchange enhancement, the amplitude and the shape of the g-factor oscillations are determined by both the screening of the electron-electron interaction and the Landau level width. The 'enhanced' g-factor values calculated for the 2D electron gas in InAs/AlSb quantum well heterostructures are compared with our earlier experimental data and with those obtained by Mendez et al (1993 Phys. Rev. B 47 13937) in magnetic fields up to 30 T.

RESUMO

We present time-resolved cyclotron resonance spectra of holes in p-Ge measured during single magnetic field pulses by using a rapid-scanning, fiber-coupled terahertz time-domain spectroscopy system. The key component of the system is a rotating monolithic delay line featuring four helicoid mirror surfaces. It allows measurements of THz spectra at up to 250 Hz repetition rate. Here we show results taken at 150 Hz. In a single 900 ms measurement 135 cyclotron resonance spectra were recorded that fully agree with what is expected from literature.

RESUMO

Measurements of basal plane longitudinal rho(b)(B) and Hall rho(H)(B) resistivities were performed on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite samples in a pulsed magnetic field up to B=50 T applied perpendicular to graphene planes, and temperatures 1.5 K30 T and for all studied samples, we observed a sign change in rho(H)(B) from electron- to holelike. For our best quality sample, the measurements revealed the enhancement in rho(b)(B) for B>34 T (T=1.8 K), presumably associated with the field-driven charge density wave or Wigner crystallization transition. In addition, well-defined plateaus in rho(H)(B) were detected in the ultraquantum limit revealing possible signatures of the fractional quantum Hall effect in graphite.

RESUMO

Transmission spectra, T(H), of linearly polarized electromagnetic waves through YFeO(3), weak ferromagnet, measured at frequencies nu=96-1000 GHz in long-pulsed magnetic fields (H||k||c-axis, Faraday geometry) exhibit strong rotation of the polarization plane near the quasiferromagnetic AFMR as well as low frequency impurity modes. New ascending impurity branch including five lines was observed at high magnetic field (10-30 T) at 96 GHz and 140 GHz in addition to the known low-field descending impurity branch. Behavior of all the impurity modes assigned to transitions in (6)S(5/2) multiplet of Fe(3+) "impurity" ions in c-sites was described self-consistently by one spin-Hamiltonian. A theoretical calculation of dynamical magnetic susceptibility at AFMR and impurity modes and further simulation of transmission spectra made it possible to describe the main features of the observed spectra T(H). It was found that the T(H) behavior is determined at resonances not only by non-diagonal components of the magnetic susceptibility but also by the anisotropy of the dielectric permittivity (epsilon(xx)(') not equal epsilon(yy)(')), i.e. birefringence.

RESUMO

We report on the magnetic properties of thoroughly characterized Zn(1-x)Co(x)O epitaxial thin films, with low Co concentration, x = 0.003-0.005. Magnetic and EPR measurements, combined with crystal field theory, reveal that isolated Co2+ ions in ZnO possess a strong single ion anisotropy which leads to an "easy plane" ferromagnetic state when the ferromagnetic Co-Co interaction is considered. We suggest that the peculiarities of the magnetization process of this state can be viewed as a signature of intrinsic ferromagnetism in ZnO:Co materials.
