RESUMO

Objective: To analyze MRI and clinical characteristics of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) activity and construct a prediction model. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 326 patients with IIM from December 2019 to December 2023 at General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University, including 112 males and 214 females, aged(53.7±15.3) years. According to histopathology and electromyography, they were divided into active phase group(n=86) and inactive phase group (n=240). The two groups were randomly divided into the training set and the verification set according to the ratio of 7∶3. The single factor analysis, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso), random forest algorithm, and multivariate logistic regression model were used to screen the risk factors of IIM activity and construct a prediction model. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and calibration curve were used to evaluate the performance of prediction model. Results: There were significant differences in gender, age, T1 value, T2 value, creatine kinase-MB(CKMB), creatine kinase (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) between the two groups(all P<0.05). Lasso and random forest algorithm screened 5 variables for analysis, age (λ=-0.009), T2 value (λ=-2.564), CKMB (λ=-0.256), CK (λ=-0.492), LDH (λ=-2.786) respectively. Multivariate logistic regression model showed that age (OR=1.603, 95%CI: 1.030-1.096), T2(OR=352.269, 95%CI: 13.303-9 328.053), CKMB (OR=2.470, 95%CI: 1.497-4.075), CK(OR=4.973, 95%CI: 2.583-9.575), LDH(OR=1 155.247, 95%CI: 152.387-8 757.954) were risk factors for active IIM patients. A prediction model nomograms were drawn with the above risk factors included. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of the prediction model for the training set MRI combined with clinical indicators was higher than that of the clinical indicator model [0.914 (95%CI: 0.873-0.955) vs 0.901 (95%CI: 0.858-0.945), P<0.001], with sensitivity of 88.3% and 90.7%, and specificity of 81.7% and 75.0%, respectively. The AUC of the prediction model for the validation set MRI combined with clinical indicators was higher than that of the clinical model [0.982 (95%CI: 0.873-0.955) vs 0.934 (95%CI: 0.858-0.945), P<0.001], with sensitivity of 97.2% and 88.5%, and specificity of 100.0% and 92.3%, respectively. The calibration curves plotted in the training set and test set, respectively, fit well with the ideal curve. Conclusion: The nomogram model of MRI combined with clinical indicators can effectively predict the activity of IIM.

RESUMO

Objective: To summarize the HRCT and MRI appearances of stapical footplate fistula related to inner ear malformation (SFF-Re-IEM). Methods: The HRCT and MRI materials of 48 cases (53 ears) SFF-Re-IEM were retrospectively analyzed. Among them, 25 SFF-Re-IEM ears were confirmed by surgery. Their CT and MRI findings including associated IEM type, internal auditory canal (IAC) malformation, tympanic fluid, its density and signal features, and accompanied labyrinthitis were recorded. Results: Among 48 cases (53 ears) with SFF-Re-IEM, 17 ears with incomplete partition type Ⅰ, accounting for 32.1%, 13 ears with common cavity for 24.5%, 13 ears with cochlear aplasia for 24.5%, 7 ears with cochlear dysplasia Ⅱ for 13.2%, and 3 ears with Mondini for 5.7%,were found respectively. 94.3% of them were associated with a defect or dysplasia in the found of the IAC. They were divided into 4 types according to the intact of the stapical footplate and accompanied CSF otorrhea: 22 ears were diagnosed as the stapical footplate leaking, of them, 2 ears might come from the stapical footplate bony defect, 6 ears were from the stapical footplate hernia. 1 ear belonged to the peristapical footplate leaking. 30 ears with the isolated the stapical footplate hernia were another found. The bony defect in 2 ears with the stapical footplate bony defect were not presented on CT and MRI.The focal bony defect of the affected stapical footplate of 36 ears with the stapical footplate hernia were demonstrated, which presented the hemispherical protruding into the tympana, the soft-tissue density on CT, and CSF-like signal on the MR heaved-T2WI images. Among 22 ears with the stapical footplate leaking, their imaging appearances varied from the different amount of the leaking CSF. Besides the focal bony defects of the affected stapical footplates, there were much more CSF-like density or signal in the ipsilateral tympanic cavity in 17 affected ears connecting with the vestibule through the defect area. In the CSF leaking ears with less CSF leaking in 5 ears, the CSF-like cysts like SFH were shown on the stapical footplate defect area, but their outer edges were irregular, and the CSF-like signal scattering in the tympanic cavity did not connect with the protruding cysts at the stapical area. Conclusion: The variable appearances of the SFF-Re-IEM ears based on the different subtypes are its characteristic HRCT and MRI appearances. This is helpful for the SFF-Re-IEM diagnosing to grasp its imaging features.

RESUMO

The present work aims to develop optimized scaffolds for bone repair by incorporating mesoporous nanoparticles into them, thereby combining bioactive factors for cell growth and preventing rapid release or loss of effectiveness. We synthesized biocompatible and biodegradable scaffolds designed for the controlled codelivery of curcumin (CUR) and recombinant human bone morphogenic protein-2 (rhBMP-2). Active agents in dendritic silica/titania mesoporous nanoparticles (DSTNs) were incorporated at different weight percentages (0, 2, 5, 7, 9, and 10 wt %) into a matrix of polycaprolactone (PCL) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) nanofibers, forming the CUR-BMP-2@DSTNs/PCL-PEG delivery system (S0, S2, S5, S7, S9, and S10, respectively, with the number showing the weight percentage). To enhance the formation process, the system was treated using low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS). Different advanced methods were employed to assess the physical, chemical, and mechanical characteristics of the fabricated scaffolds, all confirming that incorporating the nanoparticles improves their mechanical and structural properties. Their hydrophilicity increased by approximately 25%, leading to ca. 53% enhancement in their water absorption capacity. Furthermore, we observed a sustained release of approximately 97% for CUR and 70% for BMP-2 for the S7 (scaffold with 7 wt % DSTNs) over 28 days, which was further enhanced using ultrasound. In vitro studies demonstrated accelerated scaffold biodegradation, with the highest level observed in S7 scaffolds, approximately three times higher than the control group. Moreover, the cell viability and proliferation on DSTNs-containing scaffolds increased when compared to the control group. Overall, our study presents a promising nanocomposite scaffold design with notable improvements in structural, mechanical, and biological properties compared to the control group, along with controlled and sustained drug release capabilities. This makes the scaffold a compelling candidate for advanced bone tissue engineering and regenerative therapies.

RESUMO

Large bone defects, often resulting from trauma and disease, present significant clinical challenges. Electrospun fibrous scaffolds closely resembling the morphology and structure of natural ECM are highly interested in bone tissue engineering. However, the traditional electrospun fibrous scaffold has some limitations, including lacking interconnected macropores and behaving as a 2D scaffold. To address these challenges, a sponge-like electrospun poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA)/polycaprolactone (PCL) fibrous scaffold has been developed by an innovative and convenient method (i.e., electrospinning, homogenization, progen leaching and shaping). The resulting scaffold exhibited a highly porous structure (overall porosity = 85.9 %) with interconnected, regular macropores, mimicking the natural extracellular matrix. Moreover, the incorporation of bioactive glass (BG) particles improved the hydrophilicity (water contact angle = 79.7°) and biocompatibility and promoted osteoblast cell growth. In-vitro 10-day experiment revealed that the scaffolds led to high cell viability. The increment of the proliferation rates was 195.4 % at day 7 and 281.6 % at day 10. More importantly, Saos-2 cells could grow, proliferate, and infiltrate into the scaffold. Therefore, this 3D PLLA/PCL with BG sponge holds great promise for bone defect repair in tissue engineering applications.

RESUMO

Objective: To summarize the imaging presentations of the fallopian canal cerebrospinal fluid leaking (FCCFL). Methods: The high resolution CT (HRCT)and MRI materials of 4 patients (4 ears) with FCCFL confirmed by surgery between August 2016 to November 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. Among these, there were 2 males and 2 females, their ages ranged from 6 to 69 years. Results: All of the FCCFL were unilateral, including 2 on the left and 2 on the right.Clinically, the patients with FCCFL suffered from clear nasal fluid flow, ear tightness, and hearing loss. On CT, all of the affected ears were depicted markedly dilatation of the proximal portion of fallopian canal(FC), the labyrinthine segment and geniculate fossa were involved in 4 cases, and involvement of tympanic segment in 1 case at the same time. The geniculate fossa in the affected side were significantly enlarged, protruding upwards into the tympanic cavity, with one case simultaneously involving the cochlea. On MRI, the hyposignal on T1WI and hypersignal on T2WI or water sequence like cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) were shown in the enlargement FC, without diffusion restriction, and non-enhancing with administration Gadolinium contrast.CSF-like signal effusion was shown in all of the affected tympanum, of which, the CSF-like signal effusion was demonstrated in the area along the superficial petrosal nerve, the right pterygopalatine fossa and the parapharyngeal space. The adjacent intracranial meninges were presented thickening in 3 cases. Conclusion: The imaging appearances of FCCFL present some characteristics:on HRCT, the proximal portions of the affected FC depicts markedly enlargement, especially the geniculate fossa. While they present CSF-like signal, no diffusion restriction, and no enhancement administration, Gadolinium contrast on MRI, accompanying the CSF-like signal effusion in the affected tympanum.

RESUMO

A hallmark of many unconventional superconductors is the presence of many-body interactions that give rise to broken-symmetry states intertwined with superconductivity. Recent resonant soft X-ray scattering experiments report commensurate 3a0 charge density wave order in infinite-layer nickelates, which has important implications regarding the universal interplay between charge order and superconductivity in both cuprates and nickelates. Here we present X-ray scattering and spectroscopy measurements on a series of NdNiO2+x samples, which reveal that the signatures of charge density wave order are absent in fully reduced, single-phase NdNiO2. The 3a0 superlattice peak instead originates from a partially reduced impurity phase where excess apical oxygens form ordered rows with three-unit-cell periodicity. The absence of any observable charge density wave order in NdNiO2 highlights a crucial difference between the phase diagrams of cuprate and nickelate superconductors.

RESUMO

This study focuses on the fabrication of fiber membranes containing different concentrations of AgNO3 via the electrospinning technique. The AgNO3 present in the fibers is subsequently reduced to silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) through UV irradiation. The resulting nanofiber film is characterized using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and evaluations of its anti-UV and anti-electromagnetic radiation properties. Experimental results demonstrate that increasing the AgNO3 content initially decreases and then increases the fiber diameter and fiber diameter deviation. Under UV light, the nanofibers fuse and bond, leading to an increase in the fiber diameter. AgNO3 is effectively reduced to Ag NPs after UV irradiation for more than 60 min, as confirmed by the characteristic diffraction peaks of Ag NPs in the XRD spectrum of the irradiated AgNO3/PVB fibers. The nanofiber film containing AgNO3 exhibits superior anti-UV performance compared to the film containing AgNO3-derived Ag NPs. The anti-electromagnetic radiation performances of the nanofiber films containing AgNO3 and AgNO3-derived Ag NPs are similar, but the nanofiber film containing AgNO3-derived Ag NPs exhibits higher performance at approximately 2.5 GHZ frequency. Additionally, at an AgNO3 concentration of less than 0.5 wt%, the anti-electromagnetic radiation performance is poor, and the shielding effect of the nanofiber film on medium- and low-frequency electromagnetic waves surpasses that on high-frequency waves. This study provides guidance for the preparation of polyvinyl butyral nanofibers, Ag NPs, and functional materials with anti-ultraviolet and anti-electromagnetic radiation properties.

RESUMO

Objective: To explore the risk intensity and related influencing factors of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among high-stress rescue workers, and to provide effective tools for the risk assessment of PTSD in military rescue workers. Method: From June to August 2022, cluster sampling was used to select the high-stress rescue personnel of an Army department as the survey subjects. The acute Stress reaction (ASD) scale and PTSD checklist were used to evaluate the risk of PTSD in military rescue personnel. Multivariate logistic regression were used to analyze the influencing factors of PTSD. Results: The age of 4 460 subjects was (24.38±4.072) years old, including 4 396 males (98.6%). The positive rate of initial screening for ASD was 2.85% (127/4 460). The positive rate of PTSD was 0.67% (30/4 460). Multivariate logistic regression model analysis showed that female, older age, recent trauma exposure history, passive smoking and alcohol consumption were at higher risk of ASD, the values of OR (95%CI) were 4.183 (1.819-9.618), 6.278 (1.363-28.912), 3.094 (1.500-6.379), 2.059 (1.298-3.267) and 2.607 (1.614-4.211), respectively; Lower education level was associated with lower risk of ASD, OR (95%CI) was 0.593 (0.359-0.978); People who are older, thinner, have a history of mental illness, and drink alcohol were at higher risk for PTSD, the values of OR (95%CI) were 20.144 (2.459-165.043), 10.287 (2.218-47.700), 91.104 (8.592-965.980) and 2.866 (1.144-7.180), respectively. Conclusion: Gender, age, education level, passive smoking, alcohol consumption, past history of mental illness and body mass index may be related to the potential risk of PTSD in rescue workers, passive smoking, alcohol consumption, and weight controlling should be focused on to reduce potential risks of PTSD.

RESUMO

Objective: To understand the incidence of delayed vaccination with the national immunization program vaccines among children aged 0-6 years in Xuhui District, Shanghai, and to evaluate the safety of delayed vaccination. Methods: A stratified random sampling was used to obtain six vaccination clinics in Xuhui District, Shanghai. The vaccination records of children 0-6 years from these six vaccination clinics were collected from the Shanghai Immunization Program Information Management System. Adverse events following immunization (AEFI) data were collected from the China Information System for Disease Control and Prevention. Descriptive epidemiology was used to analyze the data. Children were divided into the timely vaccination group and delayed vaccination group according whether they were delayed in vaccination (received one month or more after the recommended age among children aged ≤1 year; received three months or more after the recommended age among children aged >1 year). The safety of four vaccination methods-individual vaccination, simultaneous vaccination, routine vaccination and combined vaccination-were further compared. Differences between groups were compared using chi-square test. Results: From 2019 to 2021, six vaccination clinics in Xuhui District administered 124 031 doses of the national immunization program vaccines among children aged 0-6 years, and delayed vaccinations accounted for 25.99% (32 234/124 031) of these doses. In 2020, the delayed vaccination rate during the first-level COVID-19 public health emergency response period in Shanghai was significantly higher than that in the same period in 2019 (34.70% vs. 24.19%, χ2=136.23, P<0.05). The delayed vaccination rate during the COVID-19 vaccination campaign in 2021 was significantly higher than that in the same period in 2019 (25.27% vs. 22.55%, χ2=82.80, P<0.05). From 2019 to 2021, a total of 475 cases of AEFI were reported in six vaccination clinics, with a reported incidence of 382.97 per 100 000 doses, including 421 cases of common adverse reaction (88.63%, 339.43 per 100 000 doses), 51 cases of rare adverse reaction (10.74%, 41.12 per 100 000 doses) and 3 cases of coincidences (0.63%, 2.42 per 100 000 doses). The reported incidence of AEFI among delayed vaccinations was significantly lower than that among timely vaccinations (291.62 per 100 000 doses vs. 415.05 per 100 000 doses). The incidence of AEFI for the four delayed vaccination methods (individual vaccination, simultaneous vaccination, routine vaccination and combined vaccination) was lower than that for timely vaccination. There were significant differences between the groups except for the routine vaccination group (χ2=9.82, P<0.05; χ2=5.46, P<0.05; χ2=2.97, P>0.05; χ2=11.89, P<0.05). Conclusions: In Xuhui District of Shanghai, 25.99% of doses of the national immunization program vaccines administered to children 0-6 years were delayed. Delayed vaccination does not increase the risk of AEFI compared with timely vaccination.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the diagnostic value of quantitative parameters of synthetic magnetic resonance imaging (SyMRI) in the grade of supraspinatus tendon injury. Methods: Ninety-seven patients with clinical definite of supraspinatus tendon injury from July 2021 to July 2022 in General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University were prospectively collected (case group), including 54 males and 43 females, with an age of 29 to 56 (37.4±9.6) years. According to the results of shoulder arthroscopy, the case group were divided into three subgroups included tendinopathy group (37 cases, grade Ⅱ), partial tear group (34 cases, grade Ⅲ) and complete tear group (26 cases, grade Ⅳ). During the same period, 28 normal rotator cuff volunteers without supraspinatus tendon injury were recruited (control group), including 16 males and 12 females, aged 23 to 49 (36.1±7.2) years, and marked as grade Ⅰ. All the subjects underwent MRI scan of articulatio humeri included T1-weighted imaging(T1WI) fast spin echo(FSE) sequences in axial view, T2-weighted imaging(T2WI) fat suppression(FS) sequences in axial view, T2WI FS sequences in oblique coronal view, proton density-weighted (PDW) imaging in oblique sagittal view and SyMRI in oblique coronal view. The supraspinatus tendon was divided into lateral, medial and middle subregions according to its shape in oblique coronal T2WI view, two radiologists measured the T1, T2 and PD values of the supraspinatus tendon. The interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were used to compare the consistency between and within observers. One-way analysis of variance or Kruskal-Wallis H test were used to compare the differences of quantitative parameters in different grades, the multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the risk factors of supraspinatus tendon injury grade, and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and area under curve (AUC) was drawn and calculated to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy. The Spearman correlation was used to analyze the correlation between the quantitative values and grades of supraspinatus tendon injury. Results: The ICC values of T1, T2 and PD values for the three subregions of the supraspinatus tendon were greater than 0. 700. The differences of T1 values in the lateral subregion, T2 values in the lateral and middle subregions were statistically significant in the overall comparison across different grades (all P<0. 001).The differences of T1 values in the middle and medial subregions, T2 values in the medial subregion and PD values in the lateral, middle and medial subregions were not statistically significant in the overall comparison of different grades (all P>0. 05). Multiple logistic regression model analysis showed that T2 values in the lateral and middle subregions were related factors for the grade of supraspinatus tendon injury[ OR (95%CI):1.123 (1.037-1.216), 0.122 (1.151-1.197);all P<0.001 ]. The AUC of the T2 values in lateral subregion diagnosing grade Ⅰ vs grade Ⅳ, grade Ⅱ vs grade Ⅳ and grade Ⅲ vs grade Ⅳ were 0.891(95%CI: 0.801-0.981), 0.797(95%CI: 0.680-0.914), 0.723(95%CI: 0.594-0.853) (all P<0.001), and the AUC of the T2 values in middle subregion diagnosing grade Ⅰ vs Ⅳ, grade Ⅱ vs Ⅳ, grade Ⅱ vs Ⅲ, and grade Ⅰ vs Ⅲ were 0.946 (95%CI: 0.849-0.989), 0.886 (95%CI: 0.809-0.962), 0.746 (95%CI: 0.631-0.861), 0.843 (95%CI: 0.745-0.941)(all P<0.001). The T2 values in the lateral and middle subregions were positively correlated with the grade of supraspinatus tendon injury (r=0.542, 0.615; both P<0.001), while T1 values and T2 values in the medial subregions were not significantly correlated with the grade of supraspinatus tendon injury (both P>0.05). Conclusion: SyMRI has high clinical application value in the grading of supraspinatus tendon injury, especially T2 value can be used as an effective quantitative parameter for the grading of supraspinatus tendon injury.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The detection rate of premortem MR imaging endolymphatic hydrops is lower than that of postmortem endolymphatic hydrops in Ménière disease, indicating that current MR imaging techniques may underestimate endolymphatic hydrops. Therefore, we prospectively investigated whether a novel high-resolution MR imaging technique, the 3D zoomed imaging technique with parallel transmission real inversion-recovery (3D-ZOOMit real IR), would improve the detection of endolymphatic hydrops compared with conventional 3D TSE inversion-recovery with real reconstruction. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty patients with definite unilateral Ménière disease were enrolled and underwent 3D-ZOOMit real IR and 3D TSE inversion-recovery with real reconstruction 6 hours after IV gadolinium injection. The endo- and perilymph spaces were scored separately. The contrast-to-noise ratio, SNR, and signal intensity ratio of the 2 sequences were respectively calculated and compared. The presence of endolymphatic hydrops was evaluated. RESULTS: The endolymphatic space in the cochlea and vestibule was better visualized with 3D-ZOOMit real IR than with conventional 3D TSE inversion-recovery with real reconstruction (P < .001). There were differences between the 2 sequences in the evaluation of no cochlear hydrops and cochlear hydrops (both, P < .017). All contrast-to-noise ratio, SNR, and signal intensity ratio values of 3D-ZOOMit real IR images were statistically higher than those of conventional 3D TSE inversion-recovery with real reconstruction (all, P < .001). CONCLUSIONS: The 3D-ZOOMit real IR sequences are superior to conventional 3D TSE inversion-recovery with real reconstruction sequences in visualizing the endolymphatic space, detecting endolymphatic hydrops, and discovering contrast permeability.

RESUMO

We wished to establish an expert consensus on late stage of critical care (CC) management. The panel comprised 13 experts in CC medicine. Each statement was assessed based on the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) principle. Then, the Delphi method was adopted by 17 experts to reassess the following 28 statements. (1) ESCAPE has evolved from a strategy of delirium management to a strategy of late stage of CC management. (2) The new version of ESCAPE is a strategy for optimizing treatment and comprehensive care of critically ill patients (CIPs) after the rescue period, including early mobilization, early rehabilitation, nutritional support, sleep management, mental assessment, cognitive-function training, emotional support, and optimizing sedation and analgesia. (3) Disease assessment to determine the starting point of early mobilization, early rehabilitation, and early enteral nutrition. (4) Early mobilization has synergistic effects upon the recovery of organ function. (5) Early functional exercise and rehabilitation are important means to promote CIP recovery, and gives them a sense of future prospects. (6) Timely start of enteral nutrition is conducive to early mobilization and early rehabilitation. (7) The spontaneous breathing test should be started as soon as possible, and a weaning plan should be selected step-by-step. (8) The waking process of CIPs should be realized in a planned and purposeful way. (9) Establishment of a sleep-wake rhythm is the key to sleep management in post-CC management. (10) The spontaneous awakening trial, spontaneous breathing trial, and sleep management should be carried out together. (11) The depth of sedation should be adjusted dynamically in the late stage of CC period. (12) Standardized sedation assessment is the premise of rational sedation. (13) Appropriate sedative drugs should be selected according to the objectives of sedation and drug characteristics. (14) A goal-directed minimization strategy for sedation should be implemented. (15) The principle of analgesia must be mastered first. (16) Subjective assessment is preferred for analgesia assessment. (17) Opioid-based analgesic strategies should be selected step-by-step according to the characteristics of different drugs. (18) There must be rational use of non-opioid analgesics and non-drug-based analgesic measures. (19) Pay attention to evaluation of the psychological status of CIPs. (20) Cognitive function in CIPs cannot be ignored. (21) Delirium management should be based on non-drug-based measures and rational use of drugs. (22) Reset treatment can be considered for severe delirium. (23) Psychological assessment should be conducted as early as possible to screen-out high-risk groups with post-traumatic stress disorder. (24) Emotional support, flexible visiting, and environment management are important components of humanistic management in the intensive care unit (ICU). (25) Emotional support from medical teams and families should be promoted through"ICU diaries"and other forms. (26) Environmental management should be carried out by enriching environmental content, limiting environmental interference, and optimizing the environmental atmosphere. (27) Reasonable promotion of flexible visitation should be done on the basis of prevention of nosocomial infection. (28) ESCAPE is an excellent project for late stage of CC management.

RESUMO

Current biodegradable drinking straws suffer from poor heat resistance and rigidity when wet, causing user dissatisfaction. Here, a fully biodegradable straw formed by stereocomplexation of poly (lactic acid) (SC-PLA) is reported. Because of the unique strong interaction and high density of link chains between stereocomplex crystallites (over 70% crystallinity), SC-PLA straws outperform their counterparts on the market. This coupled with the advantages of simple processing (solution casting and annealing) and relatively low cost (~2.06 cents per straw) makes SC-PLA drinking straws a superior substitute for plastic ones. Commercially available PLLA straws lose almost 60% of their flexural strength when wet compared to less than 5% of the SC-PLA straws proposed in this study.

RESUMO

Bone tissue engineering has become one of the most promising therapeutic methods to treat bone defects. A suitable scaffolding material to regenerate new bone tissues should have a high specific surface area, high porosity and a suitable surface structure which benefit cell attachment, proliferation, and differentiation. In this study, an acetone post-treatment strategy was developed to generate heterogeneous structure. After PLLA/PCL nanofibrous membranes were electrospun and collected, they were treated with acetone to generate a highly porous structure. Meanwhile, part of PCL was extracted from the fibre and enriched on the fibre surface. The cell affinity of the nanofibrous membrane was verified by human osteoblast-like cells assay. The proliferation rate of heterogeneous samples increased 190.4 %, 265.5 % and 137.9 % at day 10 compared with pristine samples. These results demonstrated that the heterogeneous PLLA/PCL nanofibrous membranes could enhance osteoblast adhesion and proliferation. With high surface area (average surface area 36.302 m2/g) and good mechanical properties (average Young's modulus 1.65 GPa and average tensile strength 5.1 MPa), the heterogeneous PLLA/PCL membrane should have potential applications in the field of bone regeneration.

RESUMO

Wet-laid hydroentangled nonwovens are widely used for disposable products, but these products generally do not have good dispersibility and can block sewage systems after being discarded into toilets. In this study, both pulp fibers and Danufil fibers are selected as we hypothesize that the high wet strength and striated surface of Danufil fibers would allow us to produce nonwovens with better dispersibility while having enough mechanical properties. The wet strength and dispersibility of nonwovens are systematically studied by investigating the influence of the fiber blend ratio, fiber length, and water jet pressure. The results indicate that the percent dispersion could be as high as 81.3% when the wet strength is higher than 4.8 N, which has been improved greatly comparing the percent dispersion of 67.6% reported before.
