RESUMO

In patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) low level of depressive symptoms is associated with coronary event recurrence and morbidity. Large epidemiological trials revealed that there is a disparity between males and females in their reports of different somatic depressive symptoms. The aim of our study was to identify gender differences in reporting depressive symptoms in patients with acute coronary events. Depreesion screening using BDI questionnaire was performed in patients with ACS in Emergency Cardiology center, Tbilisi, Georgia. The total number of participants was 84. Patients' data were collected from hospital records. Descriptive statistical tests were used for the calculation of frequencies, means and standard deviations. Chi-square test was applied for categorical variables in order to establish difference between groups. The Independent t-test was used to compare means for numerical variables. The mean age for both genders was 59.2 (10.2) years. Classic coronary risk factors were more prevalent in men than in women. However, women, compared to men have a greater number of cognitive as well as somatic depressive symptoms. Women hospitalized with an acute coronary syndrome reported greater number of depressive symptoms compared to men. Early detection of depressive symptoms will help healthcare providers reduce risks and improve outcome of ACS.

RESUMO

At the department of organic chemistry and chemical technology oil extraction of tea leaf has been received (conditionally EM ChL). Pharmacological action of the medicine EM ChL has been studied on the models of linear and plane wounds, thermal and chemical burns of a skin in white rats. As a drug of comparison Aekol has been used in the comparable doses according to the recommendations of pharmacological committee (registration number 87/295/3). Effect of drug EM ChL on the consolidation of wound scar was studied in the purebred white male with the weight range of 120-140 gr. For tensiometry the device adapted for determination of the module of elasticity of gum BH-5307 has been used. Using the model of linear wound, stimulating effect of the preparation EM ChL on the healing process has been shown using tensiometry and hystological data. The preparation accelerates the healing process of the wound.

RESUMO

The aim of the study was the investigation of possible embriotoxic and teratogenic action of small tea leaf oil extract (TLOE)--a new medicinal agent. The study of embriotoxic and teratogenic properties of TLOE was carried on the 20-day's white rat's young (150g-160g) and males (200g-250g). Experiment included selection of animals and their connubium; definition of the first day of pregnancy; introduction of a drug pregnant female; survey of embryos; processing of embryos, revealing of infringements in an internals and osteal system; statistical processing and comparison of results in relation to the intact control. The results of examination of tea leaf oil extract show no teratogenic and embriotoxic action in peroral therapeutic dose of 737 mg/kg .

RESUMO

To evaluate effects of potentially hepatotoxic factors on the body we have studied medical histories of 3382 patients hospitalized at the toxicoresuscitation unit of the TSU Clinical Hospital and at the University Therapy Clinic of the City Hospital N1 during 2000-2004. It was found out that the most common etiologic causes of intoxication are medicines and alcohol. The role of chemical substances is also significant. The number of effect of other etiologic factors is lower. Intoxications due to potentially hepatotoxic agents by years were observed in 68.25%; 68.18%; 80.35%; 75.31%; 64.42% of cases of accidental drug-induced intoxication and in 55.00%; 59.32%; 52.03%; 53.33%; 69.09% of drug-induced suicidal cases and these drugs represented various pharmacologic groups. Intoxication with combined drugs occurs mainly in cases of suicide. Effect of organic and non-organic substances in accidental intoxications and suicidal cases are similar. According to the data of the National Center for Diseases Control the number of patients with toxic liver injury during 2000 to 2004 yy. accounts for 0.42%, 014%, 0.06%, 0.89%, 1.17% of patients discharged from Tbilisi hospitals with diagnosis of chronic liver disease and 0.81%; 1.12%; 1.19%; 1.07%; 1.23% of patients being under the supervision of outpatient clinics at the end of the year respectively, this does not reflect actual state based on the observed effects of potentially hepatotoxic medicines and chemical substances and requires from clinicians to pay more attention to this problem.

RESUMO

In patients with vasorenal hypertension blood plasma renin activity was always higher on the side of the lesion than on the contralateral side, whereas in patients with nephrogenic hypertension and coarctation of the aorta this value was within physiological norm. After reconstructive operations in vasorenal hypertension (in an unilateral lesion) a hypotensive effect was produced when the ratio of blood plasma renin activity on the side of the lesion to that on the healthy side was 1.4 and more. The ratio of renin activity in plasma of blood in the renal veins is an important diagnostic and prognostic criterion.
