[A comparative study of the level of plasma prolactin in women and men undergoing operations under halothane and neuroleptanesthesia]. / Sravnitelno prouchvane na nivoto na plazmeniia prolaktin pri zheni i muzhe pri operatsii, izvursheni pod khalotanova i nevroleptanestezia.

Twenty women and 20 men subjected to urologic operations comprise the study group. Ten women and 10 men were operated under halothane anesthesia and 10 women and 10 men--under neuroleptanesthesia. Plasma prolactin levels were determined before induction in anesthesia, and 30 and 60 minutes after the onset of the operation. The mean plasma prolactin level in women exceeded the upper normal limit at the first determination before induction in anesthesia. During the operation, both in women and in men, with either type of anesthesia there occurred statistically significant rise in the mean plasma prolactin, more pronounced in women than in men. In women, the rise in plasma prolactin was greater during operations performed under halothane anesthesia and in men--under neuroleptanesthesia.

[The anesthesiological-resuscitation and surgical problems in a female patient with an adrenal cortex carcinoma]. / Anesteziologichno-reanimatsionni i operativni problemi pri bolna s kartsinom na nadbubrechnata kora.

A patient has been observed with virilizing cancer of the adrenal cortex. Anesthesiologic-resuscitation and operative problems are discussed. The importance of corticosteroid substitutional treatment is emphasized. The operation was performed through transversal laparotomy under classical neuroleptanesthesia.

[ABO and Rh blood group factors in thyroid gland diseases]. / Kruvnogrupovite faktori ABO i Rh pri niakoi zaboliavaniia na shtitovidnata zhleza.

The blood groups of 1012 patients were investigated that underwent operations in connection with the following thyroid diseases: Basedow's disease, basedowified goiter, toxic adenoma with thyroid carcinoma. Significant discrepancies were established not to exist as compared with the distribution of the blood groups among the Bulgarian population. The percentage of the patients with blood group A is only higher in carcinoma of the thyroid gland -- 50.2 per cent and in blood group O -- lower 27.8 per cent. The comparison with a control group of 307 patients with gastric carcinoma revealed that the percentage of blood group A is considerably higher -- 54.1 per cent among them.

[General anesthesia in patients with toxic goiter]. / Obshchee obezbolivanie u bol'nykh toksicheskim zobom

A report of the author's personal experience with analtesia in 604 patients having toxic goiter is given. During the procedure the effect of various anesthetics on the pulse rate at the time of surgery was studied. It was found that the combined neuroleptanalgesia and a combination of local infiltrative novacain anesthesia with nitrogen monoxide-oxygen narcosis renders the most favourable effect in such cases.
