[Structural differentiation of psychological performances in epilepsy patients]. / Zur strukturellen Differenziertheit psychischer Leistungen Epilepsiekranker.

Investigating the specific of psychic performance disorders in epileptics structural aspects in addition to quantitative performance differences are considerable. We compared psychometrically obtained performance structures of epileptic children and adults and of parallelised healthy control persons. It became evident, that the performance differentiation hypothesis is to corroborate also in epileptic patients. The psychic performance structure of epileptics is characterized by a lower differentiation level of the basis functions underlining the performances. Our factor analytic investigations emphasize the importance of deceleration of psychic/psychomotoric speed in epileptics as primary basic disorder.

[Specific aspects of psychological disorders of performance in children with epilepsy]. / Zur Spezifik psychischer Leistungsstörungen bei epilepsiekranken Kindern.

We examined 49 normal intelligent epileptic and parallelised in sex, age and intelligence just as much healthy and 14 minimal cerebral damaged children without seizures. Using a psychological test battery psychic/psychomotor speed, flexibility/preservation proneness, memory span and memory and concentration were registrated. Besides reduced memory performances we found a deceleration of psychic/psychomotor speed as primary basic disorder within the performance structure of epileptic children analogous to our previous examined adults. The tridimensional comparison suggests remarkable psychopathological differences among the two groups of patients.

[Psychometric studies on the specificity of psychological performance disorders of epileptic patients]. / Psychometrische Untersuchungen zur Spezifik psychischer Leistungsstörungen Epilepsiekranker.

Using a psychological test battery for registration of psychic/psychomotoric speed and flexibility/perseveration we examined 78 epileptic patients with different forms of epilepsy and the same number of brain healthy control persons, parallelised in sex, age, education, profession and intelligence. The registrated data were varianz-, correlation- and factoranalised. We found a deceleration of psychic/psychomotoric speed as a primary basic disorder in epileptics. Decreases of flexibility independent of speed were not ascertainable.

[The treatment of epilepsies with Convulsofin]. / Die Behandlung der Epilepsien mit Convulsofin.

The testing of Convulsofin carried out in 220 patients at 14 clinics over a period of six months confirms the international experience gained with valproic acid and sodium valproinate. The main field of application of Convulsofin according to the experience gained will again be the treatment of fits in generalised primary epilepsy for which it permits to carry out a monotherapy to a remarkable extent. The favourable effect of the preparation in photosensitivity could be confirmed. Also in generalised secondary epilepsy and in fits of partial epilepsy. Convulsofin is partly effective, so that it can recommended as a co-medication in the treatment of therapy-resistant forms of these epilepsies which are difficult to treat. Decrease in thrombocytes, transient increase in serum transaminases, gastrointestinal disorders, loss of hair and undesired increases in body-weight were the more frequently occurring side-effects.

[Relationship between automatically analyzed quantitative EEG data and psychological performance parameters in patients with epilepsy]. / Beziehungen zwischen automatisch anaylsierten quantitativen EEG-Daten und psychischen Leistungsparametern bei Epilepsiekranken.

A report is given on results of comprehensive studies in which significant positive correlations between automatically analysed parameters reflecting the frequency behaviour of the EEG background activity and psychometrically recorded relatively complex psychic and psychomotoric tempo performances as well as some partial aspects of the re-adjustment capability in epileptics were found. EEG indicator values could be ascertained which point to psychic performance disturbances in epileptics.
