RESUMO

The main component of error minimization in operating rooms (ORs) is to maintain high reliability of surgical teams. The analysis of adverse events in the OR reveals deficiencies in cognitive and interpersonal skills as the main factors influencing surgeons' errors. Therefore, research of these additional factors is necessary, besides factors related to surgeons' clinical knowledge and technical skills. In this paper, the key factors for evaluating activities in surgical operating rooms are identified. Fuzzy analytic hierarchy process is used for identification of key factors. Fifteen key factors are identified for evaluating activities in surgical operating rooms to improve the efficiency of surgical operations. For each group of activities (surgical "capabilities," operating room characteristics, and non-technical skills), five factors are identified. As the most important, the following factors are obtained: communication, indoor environment standardization, and tool handle design. The aim of the analysis of these key factors is surgeons' work capability enhancement, rational design of operating rooms, and advancement of operators' cognitive and interpersonal skills.

RESUMO

Traffic crashes are a serious public health and socio-economic problem, and they are one of leading causes of death of males in Serbia. In order to determine the main causes of road traffic crashes in Nis region, Republic of Serbia, nine key risk indicators of road traffic crashes are identified, organized into four groups (number and structure of crashes, consequences of traffic crashes, temporal and spatial location of traffic crashes, causes and sanctions), and described in detail. The indicators are ranked based on group fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP), where experts from insurance companies, professionally engaged in the process of risk assessment, with different previous experience present different impact on the final ranking. In relation to the most influential factors in the assessment of traffic crashes, improper and unadjusted vehicle speed, overtaking and passing, as well as the physical condition of the driver have the highest effect.

RESUMO

It is undeniable that fundamental requirements in surgery refer to the adequate use of medical knowledge (eg, clinical knowledge and technical skills). However, this knowledge and skills of surgeons should be supplemented with synergetic research of capabilities of surgeons, operating rooms (ORs), and nontechnical skills. In this article, by using expert research, we presented 15 key indicators in surgical practice assessment. Communication efficiency in the OR has been ranked as the first and most important among indicators using the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process method. Within the analysis of this indicator, we have shown a new method that provided us with the results describing the extent of communication, the correlation in the communication system, surgeon workload uniformity, and isolation of individual surgeons in the OR. The goal of this research is aimed at the increase of operator efficiency in the OR. It is necessary that results of this kind of research find their practical use and become an obligatory element in the construction of new ORs as well as reconstruction of old ORs.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Adequate application of the static and dynamic anthropometric measures of pre-school children in ergonometric design of children's playground equipment should eliminate all dangers and difficulties in their use. Possibilities of injuries, insecure movements, discomfort able positions and some other dangerous actions may be minimized; and safety and health protection of pre-school children will be increased. OBJECTIVE: Children's playground represents a significant space of activity for pre-school children. Therefore, it is necessary to apply ergonomic principles which contribute to the adjustment of the playground elements to children's anatomic features. Based on the results presented in this paper, new constructions were designed and new playgrounds were installed in Serbia. PARTICIPANTS: Participants were children from three pre-school age groups: Junior age group (3-4 years of age, 17 children), Medium age group (4-5 years of age, 22 children), and Senior age group (5-6 years of age, 26 children). METHODS: Thirty-one static anthropometric measures (12 in standing position, 11 in sitting position, 7 related to dimensions of hand, foot an head, with body weight and shoe size) and 15 dynamic anthropometric measures (7 in standing position, 6 in sitting position and 2 dimension of foot and hand) were defined for the study. Measurements were taken using an anthrop-meter, a flexible measuring tape. Equations for ergonomic design of children's playground elements were also defined. RESULTS: Basic statistical data of static and dynamic anthropometric measurements of the pre-school children are presented in this paper, as well as the statistical calculation of the corrective anthropometric measurements. Measurements were performed in "Poletarac" kindergarten, part of the pre-school institution "Radost" in Cacak. Elements of playground equipment in "Bambi" kindergarten in Kragujevac (the Indian tent "wigwam", gate-house, swing and carousel) were designed and built using these parameters. CONCLUSION: Based on the obtained results, several playgrounds were designed, manufactured and equipped with the appropriate items.

RESUMO

This paper presents a case study which confirmed that the use of APJ for proper assessment of human error in the Electric Power Company of Serbia (hereinafter EPS). The proposal methodological framework was used for human error identification and quantification in the case of a repair intervention on a steel lattice tower 10/0.4 kV (jurisdiction of an EPS subsidiary ED "Jugoistok", Nis, Serbia) which resulted in an accident with a fatal outcome. One of the aims of this study is to show the necessity of human error assessment not only in manufacturing industries but, as it will be shown in this paper, in companies that distribute electric energy, as well.

RESUMO

Human reliability quantification (HRQ) methods are becoming increasingly important in risk and accident assessment in systems these terms are usually related to (hi-tech industrial systems, including nuclear and chemical plants). These methods began to intensively develop after numerous accidents caused by human error or inadequate activity of people who controlled and managed complex technological processes. For already existing systems, but also for new ones, it is important to assess the possibility of an accident. Determination of possible preventive activities, which include the influence of human error on the safety of a system, is also required. These are the main goals of the HRQ method. Using Absolute Probability Judgment (APJ) and Success Likelihood Index Methods (SLIM) HRQ techniques in control and management centers in electro-power systems in Belgrade and railway traffic in Nis (both in Serbia and Montenegro) are shown in this paper.
