RESUMO

We set up an infrared-based moment problem to obtain estimates of the masses of the scalar, pseudoscalar, and tensor glueballs in Euclidean Yang-Mills theories using the refined Gribov-Zwanziger (RGZ) version of the Landau gauge, which takes into account nonperturbative physics related to gauge copies. Employing lattice input for the mass scales of the RGZ gluon propagator, the lowest order moment problem approximation gives the values m(0++) ≈ 1.96 GeV, m(2++) ≈ 2.04 GeV, and m(0-+) ≈ 2.19 GeV in the SU(3) case, all within a 20% range of the corresponding lattice values. We also recover the mass hierarchy m(0++) < m(2++) < m(0-+).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Mucocele is a lesion that involves the salivary glands and respective current ducts caused mainly by traumas in the affected area. Two different histological forms can be found: extravasation phenomenon and mucus-retention cyst where the former is the most frequently observed involving minor salivary glands such as the glands present in the anterior portion of the ventral surface of the tongue (glands of Blandin-Nuhn). CASE REPORT: This report describes a large lesion involving the ventral surface of the tongue that was definitively diagnosed by histological examination as extravasation mucocele. CONCLUSION: Important concepts are reviewed to help clinicians correctly diagnose and treat this pathology.

RESUMO

Batch equilibration experiments using a low calcium ( approximately 1 wt.% as CaO), acidic (pH approximately 4.5) Type F fly ash demonstrated phosphate immobilization on the order of 100% to 75% for 50 and 100 mg P/l solutions, respectively. A loosely compacted column of fly ash similarly removed 10 mg P/l for over 85 pore volumes. While the interactions between phosphate and calcium-rich (Type C) ashes are relatively well understood, insight into the mechanisms of phosphate immobilization in Type F ash necessitated a review of the phosphate chemistry and interactions with acidic geomedia. Phosphate adsorption was subsequently modeled using a constant capacitance model approach (CCM) excluding precipitation reactions. Our CCM predictions of total phosphate immobilization (20%) were substantially less than the results of the batch equilibration experiments and phosphate adsorption predicted by other researchers examining near pure natural and synthetic geomedia due to the compositional heterogeneity of the fly ash. Nevertheless, for the amorphous and crystalline phases studied, the immobilization of phosphate in the Type F fly ash is attributed to the formation of insoluble aluminum and iron phosphates at low to medium values of pH.

RESUMO

Clinical isolates of Aeromonas (13 Aeromonas caviae), 8 Aeromonas hydrophila, 3 Aeromonas spp., and 2 Aeromonas media recovered from diarrheal feces of children were submitted to the suicide phenomenon test and investigated at intervals of 24 h for up to 120 h. The same isolates were also stimulated by repeated passages in broth for ten days before the test. After the bacterial stimulus, a decreases in the number of aeromonads with suicidal capacity was observed. The suicide phenomenon was expressed after 72 h of incubation in only some isolates. The results show that the suicide phenomenon can be prevented by stimulation of bacterial metabolism.

RESUMO

Ninety-four women with high-risk pregnancies were referred to the Aker University Hospital, Department of Obstetrics, and monitored by Doppler velocimetry and conventional cardiotocography. The peak systolic/end diastolic (A/B) ratio was measured in the velocity waveform obtained in the umbilical artery blood flow. The non-stress test (NST) was classified according to the Fischer scores. In this mixed group of high-risk pregnancies, the sensitivity of the A/B ratio to predict fetal growth retardation was 71%, predictive value 57% and specificity 77%. The corresponding values for NST were 39%, 65% and 90%. It is concluded that Doppler velocimetry is more sensitive than cardiotocography for identifying fetal growth retardation. In an attempt to further improve the detection rate of fetal pathology, the cases with abnormal NST scores were added to those with high A/B ratios and collectively defined as abnormal. In consequence, only an insignificant improvement in sensitivity (79%) could be achieved. When the A/B ratio is normal, there seems little justification for expending time, effort and resources in routine use of cardiotocography.
