RESUMO

The clinical picture, course and outcomes of tuberculous meningitis observed in the Maritime Territory over the past 15 years (n = 93) have been studied. The findings have revealed a rise in the incidence of the disease in the recent years, an increase in the number of patients of the most productive age (30-50 years), rarity of the registration of the active tuberculous process, mild course and prolongation of individual phases of the disease, the specificity of its classical manifestations being unchanged. The authors have established a reduction in the deposit in the CSF of a thin fibrin film and the absence of synchronism in the decrease of sugar and chloride concentrations.

RESUMO

Clinico-epidemiological analysis of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) incidence rate in the Primorski Territory for 25 years has revealed the prevalence of focal forms of this infection (on the average, 50%) and its high mortality rate (on the average, 33% for the focal forms and 6.4% for the meningeal form). Such course and termination of this infection depend not only on the reactive capacity of the patient's body, but, to a great extent, on the virulence of TBE virus circulating in the area under study.

RESUMO

The electrophysiological aspects of the pathogenesis of Kozhevnikov's epilepsy associated with tick-borne encephalitis were investigated. The study involved computerization of 114 scalp EEGs obtained from patients with this form of epilepsy who were observed in the Primorye Territory. In order to receive control data, the analogous methods were used in processing EEGs of healthy age-matched subjects and also of patients with petit mal epilepsy and with Jackson's epilepsy. The computerized analysis was carried out by means of the image recognition method. The results of this study revealed distinctive features in the nature of the spectrograms of the test subjects and showed that apart from the dependence of the power spectra on the severity of the clinical manifestations of the disease, there are some elements of homogeneity between the spectrograms of patients suffering from Kozhewnikov's epilepsy and petit mal epilepsy. This similarity appears to suggest the sommon level of the localization of the pathological impulsation foci in the patients of both groups, with objective findings supporting this assumption.

RESUMO

The authors examined 104 patients with epidemic encephalitis (48 in the acute stage and 56 in chronic). In the acute stage the following forms were distinguished: vestibular, lethargic, hyperkinetic and psychosensory. The chronic stage included postencephalitic parkinsonism, hyperkinetic and lethargic forms. The acute stage had a mild development without lethal outcomes. The specific traits of epidemic encephalitis in this region were the frequency of vestibular forms in the acute stage and hyperkinetic forms in the chronic one.
