RESUMO

Background: Primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an autoimmune disease, and rituximab (RTX) induces long-term effect as second-line treatments. Zuberitamab is an innovative anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody, which was first developed in China and launched in diffuse large B lymphoma. This study aimed to investigate the safety, efficacy, and anticipated therapeutic dose of zuberitamab in Chinese ITP patients. Methods: This randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 2 study was conducted at 26 hospitals in China. Eligible patients were aged 18-70 years, had primary immune thrombocytopenia for more than 6 months, and did not respond or relapsed after previous treatment and had a pre-treatment platelet count of <30 × 109/L. Patients randomly received zuberitamab in a dose escalation (100/300/600 mg) or placebo once-weekly for 4 weeks and followed up to 24 weeks. The primary endpoint is the proportion of patients with a platelet count ≥50 × 109/L at week 8. Secondary endpoints include the proportion of patients with platelet counts ≥50 × 109/L or ≥100 × 109/L at least once within week 12/24, the proportion of patients experiencing platelets increased twice more than baseline as well as ≥30 × 109/L at least once during the treatment. Adverse events, pharmacokinetic, B cell depletion and immunogenicity were also assessed. This study is registered with https://www.chictr.org.cn/as ChiCTR2100050513. Findings: From October 2021 to March 2023, 50 patients were screened for eligibility, of whom 32 patients were enrolled and randomly assigned to placebo (n = 4), zuberitamab 100 mg (n = 10), 300 mg (n = 8) and 600 mg (n = 10) groups. The primary endpoint (PLT ≥50 × 109/L at week 8) was achieved by 40% of patients in the 100 mg group, while none in the other groups. Within 12 weeks, the proportions of patients in each treatment group achieving at least one instance of platelet count ≥50 × 109/L or ≥100 × 109/L or an increase twice more than baseline as well as ≥30 × 109/L were (70%, 38%, 50%), (60%, 13%, 30%), and (80%, 50%, 70%) in zuberitamab 100/300/600 mg groups, respectively. By week 24, the proportions of patients achieving these secondary endpoints remained relatively stable or showed a mild increase of around 10%. The anticipated therapeutic dose of zuberitamab was 100 mg. The plasma concentration of zuberitamab showed an increasing trend with dose (100 mg-600 mg) and linear pharmacokinetic behavior. CD19+ B cells and CD20+ B lymphocytes rapidly declined to 0% within one week and consistently maintained reduced levels throughout the entire treatment phase in three groups. Adverse events occurred in all patients with most of them were mild to moderate, no severe infections occurred. A slight decrease in immunoglobulins was observed in the 600 mg group, but gradually recovered at week 20. Three patients (2 in 100 mg and 1 in 600 mg group) were tested positive for anti-zuberitamab antibodies. We also observed that women, disease duration <12 months, and MAIPA + patients may have higher response rates. Interpretation: This study preliminarily confirmed that 100 mg zuberitamab was safe and effective in treating ITP and was recommended to support further investigation. Artificial intelligence (AI) represents a recent major breakthrough in technology development and, in recent years, generative AI has emerged as another trendsetter. The application of generative AI technologies in the healthcare sector has not only opened new possibilities for improving the efficiency of medical diagnoses but also provided healthcare professionals with more-accurate patient monitoring capabilities and optimized care processes. Combining generative AI with nursing expertise holds out the potential of creating a more valuable model of nursing care. The impact of generative AI on the nursing profession poses both challenges and opportunities. By applying appropriate strategies, it is possible to create more advanced and humane nursing values that enhance overall nursing efficiencies and align the nursing field with modern technological advancements. In this article, the development of AI and generative AI is reviewed, and the potential for their application to nursing care is discussed, with the goal of stimulating innovative thinking and new strategies for interdisciplinary collaboration between technology and nursing.

ABSTRACTThrombocytopenia is one of the most common hematological adverse reactions in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients receiving tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) therapy, causing life-threatening bleeding cases. However, there are fewer therapeutic drugs for TKI-induced thrombocytopenia. Eltrombopag is a non-peptide thrombopoietin receptor agonist used for the treatment of immune thrombocytopenia, aplastic anemia, and hepatitis C-associated thrombocytopenia. Nevertheless, studies of eltrombopag for TKI-induced thrombocytopenia are still lacking. This study retrospectively analyzed the clinical and test data of 21 CML patients with TKI-related thrombocytopenia. The results demonstrated that the median baseline value of thrombocytopenia in the 21 CML patients was 15.57 × 109/L [2-28 × 109/L]. Following treatment with eltrombopag, 16 patients had a significant increase in their platelet levels. The peak median for platelet increase in effective responders was 145.12 × 109/L (51-460 × 109/L). However, 5 patients failed to respond to eltrombopag. Moreover, 4 of the 21 patients enrolled had adverse reactions, including reversible liver function impairment, palpitation, headache, insomnia, and loss of appetite. Nonetheless, no cases of disease progression, thrombotic events, or myelofibrosis were observed. Hence, eltrombopag may be a useful adjunctive therapy for relieving TKI-related thrombocytopenia in patients with CML.

BACKGROUND: Treatment-free remission (TFR) has become the main target for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) dose optimization is crucial in managing adverse events, and improving adherence in clinical practice. In persons achieving a deep molecular response (DMR), some data suggest TKI dose reduction before discontinuation does not change success rate of achieving TFR, but this is controversial. However, data on quality-of-life (QoL) and mental health in CML patients with full-dose TKI, low-dose TKI, and TKI discontinuation are limited. Moreover, recent evidence indicating the feasibility of TKI dose reduction and discontinuation after dose reduction, which may change CML patients' perspectives on TKI discontinuation. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study using online questionnaires to explore the QoL, mental health in patients with diverse TKI dose, and perspective on TKI dose reduction as a prelude to discontinuation. RESULTS: 1450 responses were included in the analysis. 44.3% of respondents reported a moderate-to-severe impact of TKI treatment on their QoL. 17% of respondents had moderate-to-severe anxiety. 24.4% of respondents had moderate-to-severe depression. In 1326 patients who had not discontinued their medication, 1055 (79.6%) patients reported they would try TKI discontinuation because of concerns over side effects of long-term medication (67.9%), financial burden (68.7%), poor QoL (77.9%), pregnancy needs (11.6%), anxiety and depression while taking TKI (20.8%), inconvenience of TKI treatment (22.2%). 613 of 817 (75.0%) patients on full-dose TKI therapy indicated they preferred trying a dose reduction before discontinuing TKI therapy after dose reduction compared with 31 (3.8%) preferring no dose reduction before stopping. CONCLUSIONS: TKI dose reduction showed a significant improvement of patients' QoL and mental health, comparable to the effect of TKI discontinuation. Most patients indicated they preferred dose reduction before stopping TKI therapy. In clinical practice, TKI dose reduction can be considered as a bridge from full-dose treatment to discontinuation. Our results showed that tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) dose reduction showed a significant improvement of patients' quality-of-life and mental health, comparable to the effect of TKI discontinuation. Most patients desire to discontinue TKI in the future. TKI discontinuation after dose reduction is more acceptable compared to discontinuing it directly. In clinical practice, TKI dose reduction can be considered as a bridge from full-dose treatment to discontinuation. Background: In clinical studies, some patients who achieve deep molecular response (DMR) can successfully discontinue tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI). TKI dose reduction is also an important aspect of alleviating adverse effects and improving quality of life. This study aimed to explore the outcome after drug withdrawal in Chinese CML patients. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of the outcome of 190 patients who stopped TKI. 27 patients experienced dose reduction before TKI discontinuation. The median duration of TKI treatment and MR4 before discontinuation was 82 months and 61 months. Results: With median follow-up after stopping TKI treatment of 17 months, the estimated TFR (Treatment Free Remission) were 76.9% (95%CI, 70.2%-82.4%), 68.8% (95%CI, 61.3%-75.2%), and 65.5% (95%CI, 57.4%-72.5%) at 6, 12 and 24 months. For full-dose and low-dose TKI groups, the TFR at 24 months was 66.7% and 55.8% (p = 0.320, log-rank). Most patients (56/57) quickly achieved MMR after restarting TKI treatment. Multivariable analysis showed that patients with TKI resistance had a higher risk of molecular relapse than patients without TKI resistance (p < 0.001). Conclusion: TFR rates were not impaired in patients experiencing dose reduction before TKI discontinuation compared to patients with full-dose TKI. Our data on Chinese population may provide a basis for the safety and feasibility of TKI discontinuation, including discontinuation after dose reduction, in clinical practice.

Background: To curb the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic, the Chinese government shut down Wuhan city from January 23rd to April 8th, 2020. The COVID-19 epidemic not only leads to widespread illness but also affects the diagnosis and treatment of hematopoietic stem-cell transplant (HSCT) recipients. Objective: To investigate the medical-seeking pattern and daily behavior changes in Hubei Province during the COVID-19 epidemic in Hubei Province during the lockdown. Methods: We conducted a multicenter, cross-sectional, web-based investigation among 325 HSCT recipients by online questionnaires in Hubei Province during the COVID-19 epidemic. Results: A total of 145 complete responses were collected both before and during the epidemic questionnaires. The participants from pre-epidemic group preferred to go to hospital (68.29%) when they experienced influenza-like symptoms. The majority of the patients elected to take oral drugs by themselves (40%) or consulted their attending physicians online or by telephone during the lockdown (23.33%). 64.83% had difficulties in purchasing drugs during the lockdown, which was significantly higher than the proportion of the pre-epidemic group (24.83%) (P < 0.05). The participants preferred to purchase drugs online (23.40%) and decrease or withdraw drugs (18.09%) during the epidemic. The number of participants received regular re-examinations during the epidemic decreased sharply. The proportion of wearing masks and isolating themselves at home increased significantly during the epidemic. No statistic difference was observed in the incidence of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD)complications in participants between the during the epidemic group and the pre-epidemic group. In our study, six patients were confirmed to have COVID-19, and half of them died due to COVID-19-related complications. Conclusion: The medical-seeking pattern and daily behavior of HSCT recipients changed during the lockdown; the methods of self-protection, online consultation and drug delivery can help patients receive necessary follow-up and reduce the occurrence of COVID-19.

Falling is a major cause of personal injury and accidental death worldwide, in particular for the elderly. For aged care, a falling alarm system is highly demanded so that medical aid can be obtained immediately when the fall accidents happen. Previous studies on fall detection lacked practical considerations to deal with real-world situations, including the camera's mounting angle, lighting differences between day and night, and the privacy protection for users. In our experiments, IR-depth images and thermal images were used as the input source for fall detection; as a result, detailed facial information is not captured by the system for privacy reasons, and it is invariant to the lighting conditions. Due to the different occurrence rates between fall accidents and other normal activities, supervised learning approaches may suffer from the problem of data imbalance in the training phase. Accordingly, in this study, anomaly detection is performed using unsupervised learning approaches so that the models were trained only with the normal cases while the fall accident was defined as an anomaly event. The proposed system takes sequential frames as the inputs to predict future frames based on a GAN structure, and it provides (1) multi-subject detection, (2) real-time fall detection triggered by motion, (3) a solution to the situation that subjects were occluded after falling, and (4) a denoising scheme for depth images. The experimental results show that the proposed system achieves the state-of-the-art performance and copes with the real-world cases successfully.

Haploidentical stem cell transplantation (HSCT) has become an alternative treatment option for patients with aplastic anemia (AA) without matched sibling donors or matched unrelated donors. Recently, post-transplantation cyclophosphamide (PTCy) and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF)/antithymocyte globulin (ATG) regimens have become the most common protocols used worldwide. In this retrospective study, we retrospectively reviewed and analyzed the clinical data of 130 AA patients who underwent haploidentical HSCT and received the modified PTCy (mPTCy) regimen (n = 55) or G-CSF/ATG regimen (n = 75) between January 2013 and June 2021 across 7 transplantation centers. Neutrophil engraftment was successful in all patients within 30 days in the G-CSF/ATG group. The cumulative neutrophil engraftment rate in the mPTCy group was 96.36% (95% confidence interval [CI], 94.57 to 97.57; P = .010). The median time to neutrophil engraftment in the G-CSF/ATG group was 10 days (range, 7 to 28 days), which was more rapid than that observed in the mPTCy group (P < .001). There was no significant difference in the incidence of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) between the 2 groups. The cumulative incidence of grade II-IV acute GVHD was 18.40% (95% CI, 4.27% to 40.31%) in the mPTCy group and 19.32% (95% CI, 5.86% to 38.58%) in the G-CSF/ATG group, whereas the cumulative incidence of grade III-IV acute GVHD was 7.31% (95% CI, .09% to 37.48%) in the mPTCy group and 7.57% (95% CI, .20 to 34.19) in the G-CSF/ATG group. Similarly, there were no significant between-group differences in overall survival (OS), failure-free survival (FFS), and GVHD-free relapse-free survival (GRFS). The 2-year OS, FFS, and GRFS rates were 95.91% (95% CI, 84.59% to 98.96%), 92.25% (95% CI, 80.59% to 97.03%), and 86.68% (95% CI, 73.98% to 93.44%), respectively, in the mPTCy group and 86.67% (95% CI, 76.64% to 92.59%), 81.28% (95% CI, 70.45% to 88.46%), and 77.20% (95% CI, 65.89% to 85.16%), respectively, in the G-CSF/ATG group. Transplantation-related mortality (TRM) was significantly higher in the G-CSG/ATG group than in the mPTCy group (13.33% versus 1.96%; P = .022). In multivariate analysis, the use of a female donor, a higher Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation Comorbidity Index, and grade III-IV acute GVHD were associated with worse survival outcomes. The mPTCy and G-CSF/ATG regimens led to similar outcomes in AA patients, but quicker engraftment was observed with the ATG/G-CSF regimen, and a lower incidence of TRM was observed with the mPTCy regimen.

Accurate glioma subtype classification is critical for the treatment management of patients with brain tumors. Developing an automatically computer-aided algorithm for glioma subtype classification is challenging due to many factors. One of the difficulties is the label constraint. Specifically, each case is simply labeled the glioma subtype without precise annotations of lesion regions information. In this paper, we propose a novel hybrid fully convolutional neural network (CNN)-based method for glioma subtype classification using both whole slide imaging (WSI) and multiparametric magnetic resonance imagings (mpMRIs). It is comprised of two methods: a WSI-based method and a mpMRIs-based method. For the WSI-based method, we categorize the glioma subtype using a 2D CNN on WSIs. To overcome the label constraint issue, we extract the truly representative patches for the glioma subtype classification in a weakly supervised fashion. For the mpMRIs-based method, we develop a 3D CNN-based method by analyzing the mpMRIs. The mpMRIs-based method consists of brain tumor segmentation and classification. Finally, to enhance the robustness of the predictions, we fuse the WSI-based and mpMRIs-based results guided by a confidence index. The experimental results on the validation dataset in the competition of CPM-RadPath 2020 show the comprehensive judgments from both two modalities can achieve better performance than the ones by solely using WSI or mpMRIs. Furthermore, our result using the proposed method ranks the third place in the CPM-RadPath 2020 in the testing phase. The proposed method demonstrates a competitive performance, which is creditable to the success of weakly supervised approach and the strategy of label agreement from multi-modality data.

We performed a double-blind, double-dummy controlled study to compare the efficacy between recombinant human thrombopoietin (rhTPO) and eltrombopag in rapidly increasing the platelet counts in Chinese patients with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). A total of 96 patients diagnosed with ITP for ≥6 months who had baseline platelet counts of <30 × 109 /l were randomly assigned (1:1 ratio) to receive eltrombopag 25 mg/day or rhTPO 300 u/kg for 2 weeks. Compared with the eltrombopag group, a significantly higher proportion of patients in the rhTPO group achieved platelet counts of ≥50 × 109 /l [75·00% (36/48) vs. 43·75% (21/48), P = 0·003] or complete response (64·58% vs. 25·00%) on day 15. Moreover, a higher proportion of patients in the rhTPO group either had platelet counts that rapidly increased to twice that of baseline and with platelet counts of ≥30 × 109 /l, or reached ≥50 × 109 /l at least once when analysed on day 9, 12, and 15. However, upon discontinuation of the treatment, the platelet counts reduced to the baseline within 1 week in the rhTPO group, but on the fourth week in the eltrombopag group. Adverse events were similar in patients given rhTPO and eltrombopag. To conclude, rhTPO is superior to eltrombopag at 25 mg/day in rapidly increasing platelet counts in patients with ITP (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03771378).

This paper presents a simple technique for improving the quality of the halftoning-based block truncation coding (H-BTC) decoded image. The H-BTC is an image compression technique inspired from typical block truncation coding (BTC). The H-BTC yields a better decoded image compared to that of the classical BTC scheme under human visual observation. However, the impulsive noise commonly appears on the H-BTC decoded image. It induces an unpleasant feeling while one observes this decoded image. Thus, the proposed method presented in this paper aims to suppress the occurring impulsive noise by exploiting a deep learning approach. This process can be regarded as an ill-posed inverse imaging problem, in which the solution candidates of a given problem can be extremely huge and undetermined. The proposed method utilizes the convolutional neural networks (CNN) and residual learning frameworks to solve the aforementioned problem. These frameworks effectively reduce the impulsive noise occurrence, and at the same time, it improves the quality of H-BTC decoded images. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of subjective and objective measurements.

Glucocorticoids (GC) are used as the first-line treatment of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), but 10-20% of patients are insensitive to them. Regulatory T cells (Tregs) can maintain immune tolerance in autoimmune diseases. The present research pooled 55 patients with newly diagnosed ITP and 44 healthy volunteers from seven hospitals. All patients received GC treatment and were divided into GC-sensitive and GC-insensitive groups according to the curative effect after 2 weeks of treatment. The levels of lymphocyte subgroups and Tregs were recorded. As the results indicated, the levels of CD8+ CD25str+ Tregs in the GC-sensitive group were significantly higher than that of the GC-insensitive group (P = 0·005). The optimal critical value of CD8+ CD25str+ Tregs to distinguish GC sensitivity was 0·09%. With GC therapy the level of CD45RO+ /CD8+ CD25str+ Tregs (activated type) decreased after treatment (P = 0·02) and the level of CD45RO- /CD8+ CD25str+ Tregs (initial type) increased slightly (P = 0·11). There were no obvious changes in the level of CD4+ Tregs. These findings support that the level of CD8+ CD25str+ Tregs and its subgroups have a predictive value in judging the sensitivity to GC among patients with ITP. BACKGROUND: Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) associated with B-cell lymphoma is a highly aggressive disease with unclear clinical features and has no standard treatment. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We analyzed the clinical characteristics of 31 patients from two individual centers. RESULTS: The median overall survival was only 1.5 months. Both univariate and multivariate analyses, based on lymphoma or HLH-related characteristics, revealed that patients with high Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA load and ≥ 2 extranodal lesions, or hypofibrinogenemia, respectively, showed significantly poorer overall survival. Interestingly, some patients with high EBV DNA load had EBV-positive natural killer (NK) and/or T cells, which may be related to the coexistence of immunodeficiency and/or chronic active EBV infection. Molecular genetics examination confirmed that 47.4% (9/19) of patients had complex karyotypes, 37.5% (3/8) of patients had TP53 deletions, and 21.34% (3/14) of patients had TP53 mutation or alteration of malignancy-related pathways, including BCR/NF-κB, JAK-STAT, and epigenetic regulatory pathways, which may provide clues to choose targets for therapy. Treatment regimens containing etoposide, anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies, or anthracyclines improved patient prognosis (P = .0183, .025, and .0436, respectively). Patients with infections had significantly shorter survival than those without infections (P = .00019). CONCLUSION: The patients' performance status, number of extranodal lesions, high EBV DNA load, and hypofibrinogenemia are poor prognostic factors for HLH associated with B-cell lymphoma. Molecular genetic high-risk factors are of particular importance because these factors can provide information for prognosis prediction, treatment decisions, and disease surveillance.

We studied by questionnaire 530 subjects with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) in Hubei Province during the recent SARS-CoV-2 epidemic. Five developed confirmed (N = 4) or probable COVID-19 (N = 1). Prevalence of COVID-19 in our subjects, 0.9% (95% Confidence Interval, 0.1, 1.8%) was ninefold higher than 0.1% (0, 0.12%) reported in normals but lower than 10% (6, 17%) reported in hospitalised persons with other haematological cancers or normal health-care providers, 7% (4, 12%). Co-variates associated with an increased risk of developing COVID-19 amongst persons with CML were exposure to someone infected with SARS-CoV-2 (P = 0.037), no complete haematologic response (P = 0.003) and co-morbidity(ies) (P = 0.024). There was also an increased risk of developing COVID-19 in subjects in advanced phase CML (P = 0.004) even when they achieved a complete cytogenetic response or major molecular response at the time of exposure to SARS-CoV-2. 1 of 21 subjects receiving 3rd generation tyrosine kinase-inhibitor (TKI) developed COVID-19 versus 3 of 346 subjects receiving imatinib versus 0 of 162 subjects receiving 2nd generation TKIs (P = 0.096). Other co-variates such as age and TKI-therapy duration were not significantly associated with an increased risk of developing COVID-19. Persons with these risk factors may benefit from increased surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 infection and possible protective isolation.

BACKGROUND: We investigated the real-life choice of first-line treatment in the chronic phase of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML-CP) and the feasibility of switching to nilotinib after first-line imatinib. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis of the efficacy and safety of imatinib versus nilotinib as first-line therapy for patients with CML-CP. We also performed a comparative analysis of the efficacy of sustained imatinib versus a switch to nilotinib for patients with CML-CP with a warning or failure response or intolerance to imatinib. We also comparatively analyzed the efficacy between first-line nilotinib and first-line imatinib after standardized management in accordance with the European Leukemia Network (ELN) recommendations. A total of 344 patients were included in the present study. RESULTS: The proportion of patients achieving a complete cytogenetic response (CCyR), major molecular response (MMR), and molecular response 4.0 (MR4.0) was greater with first-line nilotinib than with first-line imatinib at 0 to 24 and 0 to 36 months (P < .05). Of the 344 patients, 174 did not achieve an optimal response to first-line imatinib. A greater proportion of those patients who had switch to nilotinib had achieved a CCyR, MMR, and MR4.0 compared with those continuing imatinib for 12 months of subsequent treatment (P < .005). No difference was found in the proportion of patients with a CCyR, MMR, and MR4.0 between first-line nilotinib and first-line imatinib after standardized management in accordance with the ELN recommendations at 0 to 24 and 0 to 36 months (P > .05). CONCLUSION: First-line imatinib can result in efficacy similar to that with first-line nilotinib after standardized management in accordance with the ELN recommendations. Treatment with imatinib as first-line treatment, with a switch to nilotinib after standardized management is feasible and effective.

The role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is becoming increasingly questioned. Previous studies have reported that the lncRNA small nucleolar RNA host gene 1 (SNHG1) is involved in multiple human malignant tumors, while its expression and role in AML is still unexplored. Here, we show that SNHG1 is highly expressed in AML specimens from non-M3 patients, as well as AML cell lines. Meanwhile, upregulation of SNHG1 is correlated with poor prognosis. Notably, SNHG1 facilitates the proliferation and inhibits the apoptosis of AML cells in vitro Consistent with these findings, knockdown of SNHG1 significantly inhibits AML progression in an immunodeficient mouse model. Mechanistically, we found that an anti-tumor microRNA-101 (miR-101) is upregulated and its target genes are downregulated in AML cells after SNHG1 knockdown. Further investigations display that SNHG1 can serve as a competing endogenous RNA to inhibit miR-101. In conclusion, our data indicate that SNHG1 plays an important role in facilitating AML progression at least in part by negatively regulating miR-101, and provides a new target for treating AML.

An efficient and geometric-distortion-free approach, namely the fast binary robust local feature (FBRLF), is proposed. The FBRLF searches the stable features from an image with the proposed multiscale adaptive and generic corner detection based on the accelerated segment test (MAGAST) to yield an optimum threshold value based on adaptive and generic corner detection based on the accelerated segment test (AGAST). To overcome the problem of image noise, the Gaussian template is applied, which is efficiently boosted by the adoption of an integral image. The feature matching is conducted by incorporating the voting mechanism and lookup table method to achieve a high accuracy with low computational complexity. The experimental results clearly demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method compared with the former schemes regarding local stable feature performance and processing efficiency.

We propose an effective method to boost the accuracy of multi-person pose estimation in images. Initially, the three-layer fractal network was constructed to regress multi-person joints location heatmap that can help to enhance an image region with receptive field and capture more joints local-contextual feature information, thereby producing keypoints heatmap intermediate prediction to optimize human body joints regression results. Subsequently, the hierarchical bi-directional inference algorithm was proposed to calculate the degree of relatedness (call it Kinship) for adjacent joints, and it combines the Kinship between adjacent joints with the spatial constraints, which we refer to as joints kinship pattern matching mechanism, to determine the best matched joints pair. We iterate the above-mentioned joints matching process layer by layer until all joints are assigned to a corresponding individual. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms the state-of-the-art schemes and achieves about 1% and 0.6% increase in mAP on MPII multi-person subset and MSCOCO 2016 keypoints challenge.

Degradation in visibility is often introduced to images captured in poor weather conditions, such as fog or haze. To overcome this problem, conventional approaches focus mainly on the enhancement of the overall image contrast. However, because of the unspecified light-source distribution or unsuitable mathematical constraints of the cost functions, it is often difficult to achieve quality results. In this paper, a fusion-based transmission estimation method is introduced to adaptively combine two different transmission models. Specifically, the new fusion weighting scheme and the atmospheric light computed from the Gaussian-based dark channel method improve the estimation of the locations of the light sources. To reduce the flickering effect introduced during the process of frame-based dehazing, a flicker-free module is formulated to alleviate the impacts. The systematic assessments show that this approach is capable of achieving superior defogging and dehazing performance, compared with superior defogging and dehazing performance, compared with the state-of-the-art methods, both quantitatively and qualitatively.
