RESUMO

Prostate cancer screening often relies on cost-intensive MRIs and invasive needle biopsies. Transrectal ultrasound imaging, as a more affordable and non-invasive alternative, faces the challenge of high inter-class similarity and intra-class variability between benign and malignant prostate cancers. This complexity requires more stringent differentiation of subtle features for accurate auxiliary diagnosis. In response, we introduce the novel Deep Augmented Metric Learning (DAML) network, specifically tailored for ultrasound-based prostate cancer classification. The DAML network represents a significant innovation in the metric learning space, introducing the Semantic Differences Mining Strategy (SDMS) to effectively discern and represent subtle differences in prostate ultrasound images, thereby enhancing tumor classification accuracy. Additionally, the DAML network strategically addresses class variability and limited sample sizes by combining the Linear Interpolation Augmentation Strategy (LIAS) and Permutation-Aided Reconstruction Loss (PARL). This approach enriches feature representation and introduces variability with straightforward structures, mirroring the efficacy of advanced sample generation techniques. We carried out comprehensive empirical assessments of the DAML model by testing its key components against a range of models, ensuring its effectiveness. Our results demonstrate the enhanced performance of the DAML model, achieving classification accuracies of 0.857 and 0.888 for benign and malignant cancers, respectively, underscoring its effectiveness in prostate cancer classification via medical imaging.

RESUMO

This study aims to analyze the effect of psychological health based on artificial intelligence agent technology on the implementation effect of Japanese family education. By combining mobile agent technology and education thought, the system structure and working mechanism of the education support system of agents are studied to build personalized support for the family education system based on mobile agents. A total of 320 Japanese middle school students were randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group, with 160 cases in each group. The control group received traditional family health education, while the experimental group received mental health education based on the Agent Technology family education system. The basic information and mental health scores of the two groups of students were compared. The results showed that there were no remarkable differences in the number of male and female cases, weight, height, average age, grade, home address, or family situation between groups (p > 0.05). The psychological health level of the experimental group was considerably superior to that of the control group regarding obsessional symptoms, interpersonal tension and sensitivity, depression, anxiety, learning pressure, maladaptation, emotional imbalance, and psychological imbalance (p < 0.05). In summary, compared with traditional family education, family education of the mental health education system based on agent technology can better improve the level of middle school students' mental health, which can improve student forced symptoms, interpersonal tension and sensitivity, depression, anxiety, learning pressure, maladjustment, emotional imbalance, psychological imbalance, and many other psychological states. Furthermore, personalized support for family education systems based on mobile agents has the advantages of autonomy, responsiveness, initiative, and mobility, which provides a new idea for family education.

RESUMO

Efficiently addressing initial rainwater pollution is crucial for mitigating urban water pollution. However, the performance evaluation of initial rainwater pollution control project is rarely introduced. In this study, the architecture of effective comprehensive engineering measures for improving the water quality of initial rainwater in Anhui Province, China, was described. Three water quality indicators, ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and total phosphorus (TP), were selected to explore the severity of urban pollution caused by initial rainwater under various rainfall scenarios. A single-factor evaluation method was used to contrast and assess the benefits of the initial rainfall interception project in terms of water quality enhancement. Results showed that initial rainfall pollution was gentler under light rainfall conditions but more prominent under moderate and heavy conditions. The percentages of NH3-N, COD, and TP in Lotus Pond that met the tertiary drinking water standard were 100%, 74.91%, and 100% with great improvement, and the average concentrations of NH3-N, COD, and TP in Fushan Road Drainage have decreased by 91.43%, 10.49%, and 57.33% respectively, after the construction of the interception project. These indicated that the nitrogen and phosphorus pollution were successfully controlled by the control techniques in both locations, but COD concentration has to be addressed with more specialized strategies. Overall, the water quality improvement project for initial rainwater pollution plays a great role in effectively governing initial rainwater pollution and improving river water quality, and provides an effective technical reference for urban water ecological environment management.

RESUMO

Rapid urbanisation has caused a significant impact on the ecological environment of urban lakes in the world. To maintain the harmonious development of urban progress and water quality, it is essential to evaluate water quality variation and explore the driving factors quantitatively. A comprehensive evaluation method with cluster analysis and Kriging interpolation was used to explore the spatiotemporal variation in a typical urban lake in China, Chaohu Lake, from 2011 to 2020. The correlation between water quality and socioeconomic factors was evaluated by Pearson correlation analysis. Results indicated that: total phosphorus (TP) and total nitrogen (TN) were the key pollution parameters of Chaohu Lake. The pollution situation was gradually improving, however, and the improvement in chemical oxygen demand (COD) is more evident due to anthropogenic control. The spatial heterogeneity of water quality in Chaohu Lake is remarkable, and the water quality is poor in the west but better in the east. Natural attributes of lakes and external load were the main reasons for the spatial heterogeneity. The western residential areas of Chaohu Lake Basin (CLB) are concentrated, and a large amount of industrial and domestic sewage exacerbates water pollution in the west of tributaries. In contrast, the implementation of water environmental governance policies in recent years has alleviated water pollution. From 2011 to 2020, water quality has improved by 23%-35% in the west and 7%-14% in the east. This study provided a framework for quantitatively assessing water quality variation and its driving forces in urban lakes.

RESUMO

Water quality deterioration and eutrophication of urban shallow lakes are global ecological problems with increasing concern and greater environmental efforts. In this study, spatiotemporal changes of water quality and eutrophication were assessed by trophic level index (TLI), cluster analysis, and spatial interpolation methods in Lake Taihu and its sub-lakes from 2015 to 2019. Results showed that the Taihu had poor water quality and maintained a light-eutropher state overall, mainly astricted by the total nitrogen (TN) and the total phosphorus (TP). All nutrient parameters reached relatively higher concentrations in the northwestern and northern areas. Meiliang Bay was the most polluted and nutrient-rich area. In terms of trend, the Mann-Kendall test highlighted that the TP and chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) concentrations increased significantly while the TN and five-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) decreased. The massive nutrient loads caused by human activity from the northwestern Taihu and the geomorphological characteristic of the north closed bays were the main contributors to the spatial heterogeneity in water quality. The main driving force of the alleviative nitrogen pollution was the declining river inflow nitrogen loading, and phosphorus pollution was affected more by accumulated endogenous pollution and decline in aquatic plants area, as well as closely linked with algae biomass. Further water pollution and eutrophication restoration of Taihu should focus on the nutrient reductions and those heavily polluted closed bays.

RESUMO

The present study aimed to observe the effect of socio-economic status on health information literacy and to identify whether there is a social gradient for health information literacy among urban older adults in Western China. This study employed a cross-sectional research design, and 812 urban participants aged 60 and older were enrolled in Western China. In the current study, only 16.7% of urban older adults reported having adequate health information literacy. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that socio-economic status factors including educational attainment, ethnicity, and financial strain were significantly and tightly associated with health information literacy. Additionally, other factors including suffering from chronic diseases, information-seeking activity, reading magazines and books, and watching television were also significantly linked to health information literacy. Consistent with existing studies, the findings indicate the health information literacy deficit and demonstrate the crucial impact of socio-economic status on health information literacy, which implies a social gradient in health information literacy. The importance of other factors related to health information literacy are discussed as well. The results suggest that reducing the health information literacy deficit and social gradient in health information literacy must be considered as an important priority when developing public health and health education strategies, programs, and actions among urban older adults in Western China.

RESUMO

A zoned strategy based on the spatial heterogeneity of water pollutant emissions is helpful for water environment management. With principal component analysis and clustering analysis, 31 provincial administrative regions (not including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan regions) of China with emissions of 12 kinds of water quality indicators had been categorized into 4 zone type regions. Zone type-1 is the largest emissions of heavy metals, including mining-developed provinces of Hunan and Jiangxi. Zone type-2 is constituted of economically and agriculturally developed with large COD, NH4+-N, TP, and TN emissions, including Hebei, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Guangdong, and Sichuan. Zone type-3 only contains Shanxi with massive oil and volatile phenol emissions. Zone type-4 is the other 19 provinces with small discharges of water pollutants. Zone type-4 could be divided into three subclasses which are related to the location of these areas. With these cluster zones, the targeted water pollutant emissions strategy has been put forward in the paper. These methods and ideas of this paper can be further applied to the analysis of spatial and temporal differentiation of pollutant discharges in basins. With the zoning regions, more concrete water pollution prevention and control strategies can be set at a national level.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the protective effect of curcumin on hepatocytes in rats with sepsis. METHODS: Eighty healthy male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into sham operation group, sepsis group, Xuebijing group and curcumin group (20 rats in each group) according to the random number table method. The animal model of sepsis was established by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). In the sham operation group, the cecum was removed only after the operation. The rats in Xuebijing group and curcumin group were injected with 4 mL/kg Xuebijing, 100 mg/kg curcumin intraperitoneally at 0, 8 and 16 hours after operation (diluted with normal saline to 4 mL/kg) respectively; Sham operation group and sepsis group were injected with the same volume of normal saline. Five rats in each group were sacrificed at 2, 6, 12 and 24 hours after operation, the blood sample was collected, and liver tissues were harvested. The levels of serum procalcitonin (PCT), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin (IL-6, IL-1ß) were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), the pathological changes of liver tissues were observed by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining, and apoptosis index (AI) was measured by TdT-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) method. RESULTS: The degree of hepatocyte injury in sepsis group increased gradually with time, the apoptotic cells gradually increased, and the AI of liver cells increased to 24 hours; serum levels of PCT, TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1ß were significantly higher than those in the sham operated group at 2 hours after operation and gradually increased to peak at 12 hours. The injury degree of liver tissue in Xuebijing group and curcumin group was significantly lighter than that in sepsis group, and the number of apoptotic cells were significantly decreased; the AI of hepatocytes and serum levels of PCT, TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1ß were significantly lower than those of sepsis group from 2 hours [AI: (11.89±1.34)%, (11.56±0.96)% vs. (23.59±2.00)% at 2 hours, (28.95±1.40)%, (30.35±1.20)% vs. (52.05±1.31)% at 24 hours; PCT (µg/L): 1.27±0.18, 1.13±0.19 vs. 2.41±0.21 at 2 hours, 5.07±0.45, 5.09±0.42 vs. 8.68±0.58 at 12 hours; TNF-α (ng/L): 127.93±9.53, 124.73±7.47 vs. 217.28±14.24 at 2 hours, 171.03±8.58, 168.68±6.95 vs. 314.13±14.39 at 12 hours; IL-6 (ng/L): 132.15±9.27, 136.14±8.42 vs. 153.35±12.64 at 2 hours, 211.65±8.52, 213.37±8.96 vs. 298.11±12.35 at 12 hours; IL-1ß (ng/L): 33.59±1.49, 35.05±1.00 vs. 61.84±3.21 at 2 hours; 81.76±2.80, 84.06±3.42 vs. 132.24±2.58 at 12 hours, all P < 0.05]. There was no significant difference in the above indexes between Xuebijing group and curcumin group. CONCLUSIONS: Curcumin can inhibit the inflammatory response of hepatocytes in sepsis rats and reduce the apoptosis of hepatocytes, which can protect hepatocytes from sepsis.

RESUMO

Objective: To observe the protective effect of different doses of curcumin on hepatocytes of rats with sepsis. Methods: 100 healthy male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into sham operation group, sepsis group, and low, medium, high dose curcumin intervention groups (L-cur, M-cur, H-cur groups), with 20 rats in each group. The animal model of sepsis was reproduced by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) method, and in the sham operation group the cecum was just taken out and returned. In the L-cur, M-cur, H-cur groups curcumin was immediately injected after CLP with a dose of 50, 100, 150 mg/kg, respectively, and the rats in sham operation group and sepsis group were given the same amount of normal saline. Five rats in each group were sacrificed at 2, 6, 12, 24 hours after operation, and the hepatic tissues and blood samples were obtained. The pathological changes in hepatic tissues were observed under a microscope, and hepatocytes apoptosis and apoptosis index (AI) of hepatocytes were determined with transferase-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate-biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL) method, and the levels of serum procalcitonin (PCT), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) were determined with enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. Results: Microscopic examination showed that the damage degree of hepatic tissues was significantly increased in sepsis group; the number of apoptotic cells and damage degree of hepatic tissues were increased gradually over time. The damage degree of hepatic tissues in curcumin groups was lessened as compared with sepsis group, especially in M-cur group. There were no significant changes in AI and serum PCT, TNF-α, and IL-1ß levels at any of the time points tested in the sham operation group. The AI, serum PCT, TNF-α, and IL-1ß levels in the sepsis group were significantly higher than those in the sham operation group from 2 hours after operation on [AI: (23.59±2.00)% vs. (2.02±0.13)%, PCT (µg/L): 2.41±0.21 vs. 0.81±0.01, TNF-α (ng/L): 217.28±14.24 vs. 80.02±2.26, IL-1ß (ng/L): 61.84±3.21 vs. 25.78±1.29, all P < 0.05], and they showed a gradually increasing tendency. AI reached peak value at 24 hours after operation [(52.05±1.31)%]; PCT, TNF-α and IL-1ß reached the peak values at 12 hours after operation [(8.68±0.58) µg/L, (314.13±14.39) ng/L, (132.24±2.58) ng/L, respectively]. Curcumin intervention significantly reduced the levels of AI, TNF-α, PCT and IL-1ß in hepatocytes of septic rats, especially in M-cur group [AI: (11.56±0.96)% vs. (23.59±2.00)% at 2 hours, (30.35±1.20)% vs. (52.05±1.31)% at 24 hours; PCT (µg/L): 1.13±0.19 vs. 2.41±0.21 at 2 hours, 5.09±0.42 vs. 8.68±0.58 at 12 hours; TNF-α (ng/L): 124.73±7.47 vs. 217.28±14.24 at 2 hours, 168.68±6.95 vs. 314.13±14.39 at 12 hours; IL-1ß (ng/L): 35.05±1.00 vs. 61.84±3.21 at 2 hours, 84.06±3.42 vs. 132.24±2.58 at 12 hours; all P < 0.05]. Conclusions: Curcumin can inhibit the inflammatory reaction of hepatocytes of rats, prevent apoptosis, and protect the hepatocytes of rats with sepsis. The concentration of curcumin with the most significant effect is 100 mg/kg, which is the medium dosage.

RESUMO

Chondrosarcomas are malignant cartilage-forming tumors which are resistant to conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy. By searching in Oncomine which is a cancer microarray database and web-based data mining platform, we found Glut1 and LDHA were upregulated in human chondrosarcoma patient samples. In this study, we reported total epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expression and phosphorylated EGFR were highly activated in human chondrosarcoma cell lines. In addition, overexpression of EGFR contributed to cisplatin resistance. EGFR promoted glucose metabolism of chondrosarcoma cells through the upregulation of glycolysis key enzymes. Interestingly, cisplatin-resistant chondrosarcoma cells showed upregulated glucose metabolism and EGFR signaling pathway. Finally, we demonstrated that the combination of either EGFR inhibitor or anaerobic glycolysis inhibitor with cisplatin showed synergistically inhibitory effects on cisplatin-resistant chondrosarcoma cells through the inducements of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. Our project proposed a novel function of EGFR in the regulation of glucose metabolism in chondrosarcoma cells and contributed to the development of therapeutic strategies for the clinical treatment of chondrosarcoma patient.
