RESUMO

The blood pressure (BP) fluctuation was first noticed in the 18th century. However, its clinical significance did not get attention until recent years. The increase in BP variability (BPV) is possibly more valuable than the increase in BP level for predicting damages in target organs. Moreover, attenuating BPV is more important than decreasing the BP level. However, the concept of BPV was not used in any related guideline for diagnosing, defining, and grading the risk of hypertension, which is due to the understanding of BPV is not profound, and blind areas and misunderstanding still exist in the definition, features, and classification of BPV. In this paper, the doubts and difficulties in studying BPV are analyzed, which may conduce to understand BPV and thus help for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of hypertension.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Metabolic syndrome (MS) is the syndrome closely related to cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors. Few prospective studies have compared the impact of dynamic changes of MS on the development of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). METHODS: Overall, 3461 subjects were recruited from a cohort study on Prevention of Multiple Metabolic disorders and MS in Jiangsu of China (PMMJS) with a follow up of 3.8 years. The associations between the dynamic changes (Difference, the value at first follow-up subtract the value at baseline) of MS, component numbers, components and relative risk (RR) of CVD were analyzed by using Cox regression model. RESULTS: The total incidence standardized rate of CVD was 2.58%,and the incidence standardized rates of CVD in MS-/follow-up MS-,baseline MS-/follow-up MS+, baseline MS+/follow-up MS- and baseline MS+/follow-up groups were 2.05%,5.01%,1.65% and 4.39% separately. After adjustment confounding factors Difference in FPG, BP and TG have significantly effects on the incidence of CVD. CONCLUSION: Difference of MS component numbers had the prediction ability of CVD, but MS groups based on baseline and first follow-up MS and/or non-MS had not. In Chinese, the dynamic change of MS component numbers was a useful predict factor for CVD.

RESUMO

A facile, rapid, solution-phase method of detecting human cardiac troponin I for sensing myocardial damage has been described using gold nanorods-based biosensors. The sensing is demonstrated by the distinct change of the longitudinal surface plasmon resonance wavelength of the gold nanorods to specific antibody-antigen binding events. For a higher sensitivity, the aspect ratio of gold nanorods is increased up to ca 5.5 by simply adding small amount of HCl in seed-mediated growth solution. Experimental results show that the detecting limit of the present method is 10 ng/mL. Contrast tests reveal that these gold nanorods-based plasmonic biosensors hold much higher sensitivity than that of conventionally spherical gold nanoparticles.
