RESUMO

The splenic artery shows numerous variations in its origin, course and branching pattern. Anatomical knowledge of variations of the branching pattern of the splenic artery is necessary to successfully accomplish surgical, oncologic or any interventional procedures on organs of the supracolic part of the abdominal cavity. This study reports the presence of a variant superior polar artery in a sixty year old male cadaver. A superior polar branch of the splenic artery, if present, usually arises 3-5 cm proximal to the splenic hilum and has an average length of 3.9 cm. We describe a rare variation of the superior polar artery 7.6 cm long and arising 6.4 cm proximal to the splenic hilum. Prior knowledge of the presence of such a variation can contribute to avoiding iatrogenic injuries and inadvertent complications during splenic surgery

RESUMO

SUMMARY: Regional anaesthesia has become an important anaesthetic technique. Effective sedation is an essential for regional techniques too. This study compares midazolam and propofol in terms of onset & recovery from sedation, dosage and side effects of both the drugs using Bispectral Index monitoring. Ninety eight patients were randomly divided into two groups, one group recieved midazolam infusion while the other recieved propofol infusion until BIS reached 75. We observed Time to reach desired sedation, HR, MABP, time for recovery, dose to reach sedation and for maintenance of sedation and side effects if any. The time to reach required sedation was 11 min in Midazolam group(Group I) while it was 6 min in Propofol group(Group II) (p=0.0). Fall in MABP was greater with propofol. Recovery in with midazolam was slower than with propofol (18.6 +/- 6.5 vs 10.10+/-3.65 min) (p=0.00). We concluded that both midazolam and propofol are effective sedatives, but onset and offset was quicker with propofol, while midazolam was more cardiostable.

RESUMO

The high resolution Fourier transform far infrared spectrum of the torsion rotation band of CH3OD has been recorded in the range 20-350 cm-1 at a resolution of 0.002 cm-1. The spectrum shows splitting of the lines due to strong torsional, rotational, and vibrational interactions in the molecule. Assignments were possible for rotational subbands in the ground torsional state (n = 0) for K values up to 15 and J values of up to 30, for all the symmetry species. In addition, some subbands were also identified which involve torsionally excited states. A total of 63 b-type subband origins, including 6 Q-branch origins obtained from microwave (MW) and millimeter-wave (MMW) studies, were fitted to a semiempirical model. The molecular parameters so determined were able to reproduce the subband origins almost to within experimental uncertainty. The torsional-rotational state-dependent effective molecular parameters and the asymmetry splitting parameters have also been determined. These should prove valuable in the assignment of transitions involving torsionally excited states in the ground vibrational state. Copyright 1997 Academic Press. Copyright 1997Academic Press
