RESUMO

Layered materials have become indispensable in the development of two-dimensional (2D) systems, offering extensive specific surface area and exceptional electrical, electrochemical, and optical properties critical for diverse applications in energy storage, catalysis, sensing, and optoelectronics. While mono- and biatomic layered materials have demonstrated remarkable characteristics in lower dimensions, the quest for complexity in materials has opened new avenues for tailoring properties to specific requirements. Within this context, misfit-layered compounds (MLCs) stand out as promising candidates. In this study, we present a successful synthesis of few-layered misfit CaCoO2-CoO2 2D nanosheets in bulk quantities from bulk calcium cobalt oxide (CCO-B or CCO). These newly synthesized 2D exfoliated misfit nanosheets demonstrate remarkable 7-fold electrochemical energy storage properties, surpassing their parent bulk CCO, as cathode materials in aqueous Zn-ion batteries. This work addresses the longstanding challenge of exfoliating bulk MLCs to nanostructured, lower dimensional MLCs, opening doors for utilization in advanced energy storage systems and beyond.

RESUMO

The morphology and crystal structure of electrode materials have an enormous impact on their electrochemical properties for employment in supercapacitors for various applications. In this study, the transformations of the crystal structure of WO3·H2O nanoplates were conducted by post-annealing at 200 °C and 400 °C. The morphological and structural evolution of the electrodes was studied via FEG-SEM, HRTEM, FTIR, XRD, and Raman spectroscopy. The phase transition and enhanced degree of crystallinity were observed with increasing temperature. The orthorhombic structures of the hydrate WO3·H2O (W80), the mixed-phase with mesoporous structure (W200), and finally the monoclinic phase of WO3 structures (W400) were achieved at annealing temperatures of 80 °C, 200 °C, and 400 °C respectively. The electrochemical performance of electrode W200 showed the highest specific capacitance of 606 F g-1 as compared to electrode W80 (361 F g-1), and was two-fold greater than electrode W400 (302 F g-1) at a current density of 1 A g-1. Moreover, electrode W200 exhibited excellent cyclic stability of 89% at an ultrahigh scan rate of 100 mV s-1 after 4000 cycles. The results highlight that the mixed-phase WO3 nanoplates would make a suitable electrode material for supercapacitors with desired electrochemical features.

RESUMO

The Cr-doped tunable thickness core-shell Ge/GeOx nanowires (NWs) were synthesized and characterized using x-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and magnetization studies. The shell thickness increases with the increase in synthesis temperature. The presence of metallic Cr and Cr3+ in core-shell structure was confirmed from XPS study. The magnetic property is highly sensitive to the core-shell thickness and intriguing room temperature ferromagnetism is realized only in core-shell NWs. The magnetization decreases with an increase in shell thickness and practically ceases to exist when there is no core. These NWs show remarkably high Curie temperature (TC > 300 K) with the dominating values of its magnetic remanence (MR) and coercivity (HC) compared to germanium dilute magnetic semiconductor nanomaterials. We believe that our finding on these Cr-doped Ge/GeOX core-shell NWs has the potential to be used as a hard magnet for future spintronic devices, owing to their higher characteristic values of ferromagnetic ordering.
