RESUMO

The authors report a case of massive hemorrhage from the vessels of the renal peduncle in a 68-year-old male patient with nephroureterolithiasis after one session of ESWL. Urgent nephrectomy was made. Histologically, there were sclerotic-distrophic changes of the vascular peduncle of the left kidney induced by long-term obstruction of the ureter with the calculus and extravasation of the urine into the renal sinus. This ESWL complication may take place in elderly patients with long-term ureteral obstruction with the stone. In such cases ESWL should be carried out only in hospital.

RESUMO

A particle sizing counter, elaborated by the Institute of Cytology and Scientific-Industry Union "Analytpribor", was evaluated for its effectiveness in analysing different cell suspensions. The mean error of cell concentration measurement is about 3% within the 1-15 x 10(4) ml-1 interval. Cells can be found in suspension at a concentration of 2 x 10(2) ml-1. Cell size can be measured reproducibly within 10% for the interval 3-150 microns. The absolute value of cell size can be obtained after the device graduation with independently sized cells. Such a graduation differs by 5-10% from the graduation with latexes.

RESUMO

Potassium (rubidium) influx, sodium and potassium contents, as well as size distribution, DNA and protein contents and synthesis have been examined in PHA-activated human lymphocytes within 0.5-72 h. A complex set of ionic events was found to include at least two stages of the increase in potassium and sodium contents per g cell protein and in ouabain-sensitive potassium influx which are preceded by a decrease in potassium content by almost 17% within the first 2-5 h. The kinetics of potassium and sodium changes has own pattern for each of cations, thus indicating definite changes in the ouabain-resistant transport of potassium and sodium during the G0----G1----S progression. The late increase in potassium content per g cell protein was found to correlate with the growth in cell size. This finding confirms the rule which was stated earlier for other animal cells, i. e. cells that prepare to proliferate are to raise their potassium per g cell protein up to the level of 0.8-1.0 mmole (Vereninov. Marakhova, 1986).

RESUMO

A cell scintillator intended for analysis of the disperse composition and concentration of poor contrast biologic objects suspended in transparent liquid media has been designed at the Analitpribor Research and Production Amalgamation in Tbilisi for the Cytology Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Leningrad. The apparatus is based on light blocking and hydro-focussing physical principles. Automated system of the apparatus calibration permits measurements of the particles 3 to 150 microns in size at the level of 10%. The mean error of cell concentration estimation within the range of 10000-150000 cell/ml is 3%.

RESUMO

Dynamic examinations of 78 patients with a primary diagnosis of glaucoma with low intraocular pressure and 25 persons without disturbances in intraocular pressure regulation, using up-to-date adequate methods--ultrasound dopplerography, rheography, fluorescence angiography, electron tonography, as well as other traditional methods, allow to make a conclusion that glaucoma with low intraocular pressure is a variant of the development of a typical open-angle glaucoma complicated by involutional changes in the body in a form of chronic vascular deficiency (chronic ischemic neuropathy of the eye). Glaucoma with low pressure should be differentiated from ischemic neuropathy or its outcome. The criterium for a diagnosis of low pressure glaucoma is the presence of changes in hydrodynamic and their progression (intensification of retention in reduced level of intraocular fluid outflow), positive results of unloading tests. A term "primary open-angle glaucoma, chronic vascular deficiency" is proposed.
