[Synovial hemangioma of the knee joint--a rare cause of recurrent hemarthrosis]. / Das Synovialhämangiom des Kniegelenks--seltene Ursache eines rezidivierenden Hämarthros.

In the differential diagnosis of bloody knee joint effusions synovial haemangioma as a rare cause has to be considered. Especially suspicious are long durations of disease with recurrent atraumatic blood-stained joint effusions and repeated episodes of painful limitation of motion, laboratory and radiographic findings often being normal. On the one hand arthroscopy can prove the diagnosis by obtaining an ample biopsy specimen, on the other hand it facilitates the healing of the lesion at the same time by radical removal of the tumour.

[Histiocytosis X. Problems of differential diagnosis in adults]. / Histiocytosis X. Differentialdiagnostische Probleme im Erwachsenenalter.

A now 20-year-old man has been suffering from diabetes insipidus for four years. Two years ago a tumour in the hypophyseal stalk-hypothalamus region had been removed, but no definitive histological diagnosis could be established. When aged 19 he developed cutaneous changes which for the first time led to histiocytosis being suspected. Also for the first time, multiple small foci were noted in both lungs. Histological examination of a transbronchial lung biopsy demonstrated histiocytosis X. No specific treatment is being considered at present, because the patient is symptom-free and has normal lung function.

Exfoliative cytology of multiple endobronchial granular cell tumor.

A multicentric endobronchial granular cell tumor (GCT) in a 50-year-old man was diagnosed by the cytologic study of bronchial lavage specimens. The paraffin-embedded sections contained small clusters of medium-sized round tumor cells that had eccentric nuclei without nucleoli and eosinophilic finely granulated cytoplasm, which was positive with the periodic acid-Schiff stain. These cells were distinguishable from the macrophages and bronchial and squamous cells also found in the specimens. The excised tumors histologically mimicked a squamous cell carcinoma. Since 10% of all GCTs occur in the lung, where a multiple presentation can especially mimic a metastatic malignant process, it is important that the possibility of a granular cell tumor be considered in the screening of exfoliative cytologic specimens from the lung.

[Santorinorrhagia as the leading symptom of occult pancreatic cancer]. / Santorinorrhagie als Leitsymptom eines okkulten Pankreaskarzinoms.

A case report is presented here on the rare osteoclastoma of the pancreases which was observed in a patient with pancreas divisum. The leading symptom was recurrent bleeding from Santorin's duct (Santorinorrhage).

Pitfall in the CT diagnosis of pulmonary arteriovenous malformation.

A peripheral adenosquamous carcinoma of the right lung with atypical rich vascularization of the central scar was misinterpreted as an arteriovenous malformation based on a chest X-ray examination and a dynamic computed tomographic study.

Hyperplasiogenic polyp in the duodenum.

Report on a 42-year-old patient with extensive heterotopia of gastric mucosa within the first portion of the duodenum which formed the matrix of a hyperplasiogenic polyp.

[Endoscopic and histological alterations of the gastric mucosa in patients with chronic renal insufficiency (author's transl)]. / Endoskopische und histologische Veränderungen der Magenschleimhaut bei Patienten mit chronischer Niereninsuffizienez. Ein Beitrag zur Frage der urämischen Gastritis.

Biopsies of mucosa from all regions of the stomach were obtained with endoscopic guidance from two groups of people. One group consisted of 80 patients who suffered from chronic renal insufficiency in various stages and had not yet been dialysed. The other group consisted of 80 healthy individuals. Both groups had the same age distribution. Histological examinations of the biopsies did not reveal significant differences between the two groups. The same was true for macroscopic examinations of stomach and duodenum. Changes indicating a so called "uremic gastritis" were not observed.

[Benign liver-cell-tumors and oral contraceptives (author's transl)]. / Gutartige Lebertumoren und Ovulationshemmer.

The report concerns two female patients who had taken contraceptives for a period of eight to ten years and were found to have benign liver-cell-tumor. The possibility of liver-cell-tumor induced by oral contraceptives is discussed with regard to the literature.
