RESUMO
Bruxism occurs in nearly 60% of children between 3 and 5 years, with important repercussions to the different components of the stomatognathic system. Nevertheless, there is little information in the literature about this topic. The aim of this study was to compare two groups of children with bruxism. One group was not submitted to treatment, serving as a control. To the other group, nocturnal bite plate was made. Cast models were made for both groups, to evaluate the progression of wear facets, during 8 months. The results are as follows: The 4 children of the control group displayed increased wear facets during the study period. On the other hand, of the 5 children that used nocturnal bite plate, showed no increase of wear facets, even after the removal of the device. From this study, we can conclude that the use of nocturnal bite plate is efficient against bruxism in 3- to 5-year-old children.

In a thirty-year-old patient with AIDS the diagnosis of disseminated histoplasmosis was established via biopsy and culture. The patient had grown up in Argentina, where histoplasmosis is endemic. He had not been in an endemic region during the last two years anteceding the manifestation of systemic histoplasmosis. Accordingly, in patients with a progressive immunodeficiency syndrome, reactivation of a former (possibly inapparent) infection with Histoplasma capsulatum must be considered. Therapy with Amphotericin B lead to a remarkable improvement of clinical, laboratory and sonographic findings. Due to the fact that total eradication of H. capsulatum from the infected host cannot be achieved with any known drug regimen, a life-long follow-up therapy was begun. The patient showed no signs of relapse after a follow-up of 7 months.

The case involving a 33-year-old patient is presented who developed a muscle hernia through a fascia late defect subsequent to removal of internal fixation devices from the left femur. Because primary closure of the fascia could not be achieved, an autologous dermis graft harvested from the margin of the skin incision was used. A firm closure of the fascial gap was achieved and the patient has no complaints. Having used an autologous dermis graft, we were able to avoid an alloplastic substitute.
