RESUMO

As the largest iron and steel producer, China still cannot meet its demand of iron and steel only through domestic primary supply in the last few decades. Hence, secondary iron resources are increasingly significant in meeting China's iron supply and demand balance. However, the secondary iron resource availability in China and how it impacts the future supply demand balance were still insufficiently discussed. In this work, we developed a material flow analysis and secondary resources reserve assessment (MFA-SRRA) integrated model, assessed secondary iron resources availability, and conducted a supply demand analysis through nine scenarios for irons in China. The results showed that China's secondary iron reserves will increase from 8.9 Gt in 2021 to 14.04 to 19.01 Gt in 2050. With the increasing secondary iron supply, more than 60% of iron ore as a source of steelmaking can be replaced by 2050. Landfills, as a significant reserve of iron but always ignored, will accumulate 1.42-1.51 Gt secondary iron resources by 2050 and should be noticed to be mined and utilized in the future. Last, we suggest that promoting innovation in landfill mining technology and making sustainable material management policies are urgent to prevent these secondary iron resources from becoming real waste.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Endovascular treatment (EVT) has revolutionized the standard treatment of vertebrobasilar artery occlusion (VBAO) with moderate infarct core, but its effectiveness in patients with a low posterior circulation Acute Stroke Prognosis Early CT Score (pc-ASPECTS) is unclear. This study aimed to assess EVT effects in VBAO patients with pc-ASPECTS <6. METHODS: This retrospective study enrolled patients with VBAO within 24 hours of the estimated occlusion time at 65 stroke centers in a nationwide registration in China. The primary outcome was a favorable shift in the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) at 90 days. The secondary outcomes included a favorable outcome (mRS 0-3) and functional independence (mRS 0-2). Propensity score matching and inverse probability of treatment weighting were used to compare the outcomes of patients treated with EVT and those with best medical management. RESULTS: A total of 431 patients with VBAO and pc-ASPECTS <6 were included. EVT was associated with a favorable shift in the mRS score at 90 days (OR 1.72, 95% CI 1.19 to 2.5), a higher probability of a favorable outcome (OR 1.66, 95% CI 1.02 to 2.74), and improved functional independence (OR 1.76, 95% CI 1.06 to 2.96). EVT also significantly reduced the risk of 90-day mortality (OR 0.62, 95% CI 0.40 to 0.96), but increased the risk of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (OR 2.76, 95% CI 1.06 to 8.58). CONCLUSION: The results of this study suggest that EVT may be a safe and effective treatment option for patients with VBAO and pc-ASPECTS <6. Further studies are needed to investigate the effect of EVT in patients with pc-ASPECTS <6 and to identify patients who may benefit from EVT.

RESUMO

Pretreatment, the initial step in recycling spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), efficiently separates cathode and anode materials to facilitate key element recovery. Despite brief introductions in existing research, a comprehensive evaluation and comparison of processing methods is lacking. This study reviews 346 references on LIBs recycling, analyzing pretreatment stages, treatment conditions, and method effects. Our analysis highlights insufficient attention to discharge voltage safety and environmental impact. Mechanical disassembly, while suitable for industrial production, overlooks electrolyte recovery and complicates LIBs separation. High temperature pyrolysis flotation offers efficient separation of mixed electrode materials, enhancing mineral recovery. We propose four primary pretreatment processes: discharge, electrolyte recovery, crushing and separation, and electrode material recovery, offering simplified, efficient, green, low-cost, and high-purity raw materials for subsequent recovery processes.

RESUMO

Background: Whether endovascular treatment (EVT) is safe and effective for vertebrobasilar artery occlusion (VBAO) is yet incompletely understood. Two RCTs, the endovascular treatment versus standard medical treatment for vertebrobasilar artery occlusion (BEST) trail and the Basilar Artery International Cooperation Study (BASICS), concentrating on this field were recently reported. Objective: We use real-world registry data of VBAO to compare the outcome of EVT inside and outside the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the BEST and BASICS study to testify the feasibility of the selection paradigms of VBAO in these trials. Methods: Consecutive patients with VBAO receiving EVT involving 21 stroke centers were retrospectively included. The safety outcomes [3-month mortality, symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH), and effectiveness outcomes (the proportion of 3-month functional independence (mRS of 0-2) and favorable outcome (mRS of 0-3)] were compared between VBAO patients who meet or failed to meet the BEST/BASICS selection criteria for EVT. Results: Our study cohort consisted of 577 VBAO patients who underwent EVT. Of them, 446 patients had pc-ASPECTS ≧8. Successful reperfusion (mTICI 2b or 3) was achieved in 85.4% (n = 493). There were 418 patients fulfilling the BEST criterion for EVT and 194 fulfilling the BASICS criterion. Regression analysis indicated that adherence to BEST or BASICS criterion for EVT was not independently related to most of the safety and effectiveness outcome except that adherence to BEST was significantly associated with the 3-month favorable outcome (ORBEST: 1.742, 95% CI: 1.087-2.790). However, when we put pc-ASPECTS into both criteria with a cut-off value of 8, meeting both BEST criterion plus pc-ASPECTS and BASICS criterion plus pc-ASPECTS was independently related to 3-month functional independence (ORBEST: 1.687, 95% CI: 1.077-2.644; ORBASIC: 1.653, 95% CI: 1.038-2.631) and favorable outcome (ORBEST: 2.280, 95% CI: 1.484-3.502; ORBASIC: 2.153, 95% CI: 1.372-3.378). Conclusion: Our study indicated that, based on real-world data of EVT, adherence to BEST or BASICS criterion for EVT was not independently associated with the safety and effectiveness outcome except that adherence to BEST was significantly related to the 3-month favorable outcome. However, the BEST or BASICS selection criterion and pc-ASPECTS ≧8 might be better paradigms for EVT patient selection.

RESUMO

Peanut testa (seed coat) contains large amounts of flavonoids that significantly influence seed color, taste, and nutritional qualities. There are various colors of peanut testa, however, their precise flavonoid components and regulatory mechanism of pigmentation remain unclear. In this study, a total of 133 flavonoids were identified and absolutely quantified in the seed coat of four peanut cultivars with different testa color using a widely targeted metabolomic approach. Black peanut skin had more types and substantial higher levels of cyanidin-based anthocyanins, which possibly contribute to its testa coloration. Procyanidins and flavan-3-ols were the major co-pigmented flavonoids in the red, spot and black peanuts, while flavanols were the most abundant constitutes in white cultivar. Although the concentrations as well as composition characteristics varied, the content ratios of procyanidins to flavan-3-ols were similar in all samples except for white peanut. Furthermore, MYB-like transcription factors, anthocyanidin reductases (ANR), and UDP-glycosyltransferases (UGT) were found to be candidate genes involved in testa pigmentation via RNA-seq and weighted gene co-expression network analysis. It is proposed that UGTs and ANR compete for the substrate cyanidin and the prevalence of UGTs activities over ANR one will determine the color pattern of peanut testa. Our results provide a comprehensive report examining the absolute abundance of flavonoid profiles in peanut seed coat, and the finding are expected to be useful for further understanding of regulation mechanisms of seed coat pigmentation in peanut and other crops.

RESUMO

Low temperature (non-freezing) is one of the major limiting factors in peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) growth, yield, and geographic distribution. Due to the complexity of cold-resistance trait in peanut, the molecular mechanism of cold tolerance and related gene networks were largely unknown. In this study, metabolomic analysis of two peanut cultivars subjected to chilling stress obtained a set of cold-responsive metabolites, including several carbohydrates and polyamines. These substances showed a higher accumulation pattern in cold-tolerant variety SLH than cold-susceptible variety ZH12 under cold stress, indicating their importance in protecting peanut from chilling injuries. In addition, 3,620 cold tolerance genes (CTGs) were identified by transcriptome sequencing, and the CTGs were most significantly enriched in the "phenylpropanoid biosynthesis" pathway. Two vital modules and several novel hub genes were obtained by weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Several key genes involved in soluble sugar, polyamine, and G-lignin biosynthetic pathways were substantially higher and/or responded more quickly in SLH (cold tolerant) than ZH12 (cold susceptible) under low temperature, suggesting they might be crucial contributors during the adaptation of peanut to low temperature. These findings will not only provide valuable resources for study of cold resistance in peanut but also lay a foundation for genetic modification of cold regulators to enhance stress tolerance in crops.
