RESUMO

This cross-sectional study examined the associations of psychological resilience, perceived social support, and posttraumatic growth (PTG) in breast cancer (BC) patients (N = 203). The participants' mean age was 43.14 ± 9.06, 80.3% were married, 40.9% had a university degree, 61.6% were unemployed, and 72.4% reported a moderate economic status. No significant correlation was found between PTG and psychological resilience, while a moderate and positive correlation was observed between PTG and perceived social support. A weak and positive correlation was also detected between perceived social support and psychological resilience. Professionals working in the field of psycho-oncology and social work can make attempts to increase psychological resilience, perceived social support, and PTG in BC patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder (BD) encounter difficulties in adherence to treatment and functionality. Although it is known that psychosocial interventions such as motivational interviewing (MI) and psychoeducation are important in regard to improving adherence to treatment and functionality, the content and nature of these interventions remain uncertain. OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to determine the effects of psychoeducation and MI on treatment adherence and functionality in individuals diagnosed with BD. METHOD: In this study, a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design with three groups was adopted. The study was completed with 119 participants in the MI (n = 32), psychoeducation (n = 31), and control (n = 56) groups. RESULTS: There was a statistically significant improvement in the psychoeducation and MI groups in terms of treatment adherence compared to the control group (F = 32.672, p = 0.001, Partial η2 = 0.364). Similarly, the psychoeducation and MI groups had significantly higher functionality levels compared to the control group, and significant differences were observed between the groups regarding the degree of improvement in functionality dimensions including the feeling of stigmatization (F = 8.433, p = 0.001, Partial η2 = 0.129) and participation in social activities (F = 7.038, p = 0.001, Partial η2 = 0.110). CONCLUSION: It can be stated that psychoeducation and MI have positive effects in terms of improvement in treatment adherence and functionality in individuals diagnosed with BD.

RESUMO

Aim: In our study, we examined the effect of post-traumatic growth on recovery in liver transplant recipients in the post-transplant period. Method: This research was performed as a descriptive and cross-sectional study with the participation of 218 patients who had liver transplantation at the liver transplant institute of a research and training hospital. The personal information form, the Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory, and the Recovery Assessment Scale were used in the data collection process. The Statistical Package for Social Science 25.0 was utilized in the data analysis process. Findings: In the research, of all participant liver transplant recipients, 67.8% were aged 45-64 years, 34.4% had incomes below expenses, and 91.7% had living donor liver transplantation. Besides, it was found that participants who had living donor liver transplantation obtained higher mean scores from both the Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory and the Recovery Assessment Scale than participants who had cadaveric donor liver transplantation, and likewise, participants who had past surgery experiences obtained higher mean scores from both the Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory and the Recovery Assessment Scale than participants who had no past surgery experience (p < 0.05). Moreover, there was a statistically significant positive linear relationship between participant liver transplant recipients' Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory and Recovery Assessment Scale scores. Conclusion: Post-traumatic growth supports recovery. Also, social support and a good economic situation are other parameters that promote recovery. In the two-year process during which the treatment is intensively applied to liver transplant recipients following the transplantation surgery, it is important to enable patients to find more meaning in life and to find solutions that facilitate recovery.

RESUMO

This study was conducted to determine the effect of psychoeducation based on motivational interview techniques on medication adherence, hope, and psychological well-being in schizophrenia patients. There are many studies using Motivational Interviewing for individuals with schizophrenia. However, there are no studies on whether the concept of "adherence to treatment," which is clearly shown to be corrected with 6 to 8 weeks of motivational interviewing, will positively affect concepts such as "hope and well-being," which require longer interventions, in a shorter time. In this context, there are not enough studies in which motivational interviewing techniques are integrated into psychoeducational interventions that can be organized with more individuals. The study was conducted with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample size of the study was determined as 150 schizophrenia patients including 75 in the experimental group and 75 in the control group based on power analysis. The researcher provided the patients in the experimental group with a six-session psychoeducation program based on motivational interview techniques. A "Descriptive Characteristics Form," the "Herth Hope Index," the "Morisky Medication Adherence Scale," and the "Psychological Well-Being Scale" were used to collect the data. In the study, psychoeducation based on motivational interview techniques created a statistically significant difference in the medication adherence, hope and psychological well-being levels of the patients in the experimental and control groups (p < .05). Psychoeducation based on motivational interview techniques provided for schizophrenia patients was found to be effective in enhancing their medication adherence, hope, and psychological well-being levels.
