RESUMO

This case study on a 54-year-old woman shows the exact progression of one abdominal lipolysis treatment with a phosphatidylcholine compound mixture. The mixture consists of phosphatidylcholine 50 mg/mL, NaCl 0.9% as diluent (50%), buflomedil (in a concentration of 5%), and vitamin B complexes (B2, B3, B6; 1%). The patient's weight, blood values, ultrasound findings, measurement, and histologic findings before the treatment, shortly after treatment, and 3 days, 10 days, 4 weeks, and 8 weeks after treatment are documented.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The use of injections to reduce localized fat deposits, first discovered in Italy in the 1980s, was popularized in South America and further developed by the author. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to demonstrate the efficacy of injection lipolysis in the reduction of localized fat deposits. METHODS: A study group of 441 patients received from 1 to 4 injections of a phosphatidylcholine mixture developed by the author for treatment of localized fat deposits in the upper and lower abdomen, hips, thighs, upper arms, and face. RESULTS: After treatment with injection lipolysis of up to 100 mL of injectable mixture, containing a maximum of 2500 mg phosphatidylcholine, fat deposits showed an average circumferential reduction per application f.i. upper belly 3.7 cm, lower belly 3.9 cm, thighs 1.9 cm, upper arms 1.6 cm. Very good success was seen in facial treatments. No patient showed irregularities, dimples or any serious side effect after treatment. No re-enlargement of fat deposits was reported during the time of the study. CONCLUSIONS: All patients showed remarkable reductions of fat deposits treated with injection lipolysis. Using the correct technique, injection lipolysis is a safe and efficacious alternative to lipoplasty on smaller areas for patients objecting to, or unable to undergo, surgery. It is not a replacement for a necessary change of lifestyle, nor is it a method of weight reduction or a treatment for obesity. The ideal patient is one with small to medium fat deposits that cannot be reduced by exercise and diet.

RESUMO

According to the authors, Lipodissolve injections reduce the size of localized fat deposits and cause skin retraction in body regions containing small deposits of localized fat, cellulite, or postlipoplasty deformities. It will not replace traditional lipoplasty techniques, but is an excellent adjunct or alternative for those patients seeking minimally invasive treatment. Successful outcomes are highly dependent on the correct formula and injection technique, as well as proper patient selection.

RESUMO

The medicine Lipostabil N has been in widespread use in Europe since 2002 by doctors working in the field of esthetics to achieve a reduction in the volume of smaller fat deposits by means of injections into the subcutaneous fatty tissue. The lipases released from the adipocytes by means of phosphatidylcholine produce a local breakdown of fat that is then discharged over the liver and metabolized via beta-oxidation. The medicine has been authorized for intravenous use in the prophylaxis and therapy of fat embolisms and liver diseases.
