RESUMO

Sodium batteries (SBs) emerge as a potential candidate for large-scale energy storage and have become a hot topic in the past few decades. In the previous researches on electrolyte, designing electrolytes with the solvation theory has been the most promising direction is to improve the electrochemical performance of batteries through solvation theory. In general, the four essential factors for the commercial application of SBs, which are cost, low temperature performance, fast charge performance and safety. The solvent structure has significant impact on commercial applications. But so far, the solvation design of electrolyte and the practical application of sodium batteries have not been comprehensively summarized. This review first clarifies the process of Na+ solvation and the strategies for adjusting Na+ solvation. It is worth noting that the relationship between solvation theory and interface theory is pointed out. The cost, low temperature, fast charging, and safety issues of solvation are systematically summarized. The importance of the de-solvation step in low temperature and fast charging application is emphasized to help select better electrolytes for specific applications. Finally, new insights and potential solutions for electrolytes solvation related to SBs are proposed to stimulate revolutionary electrolyte chemistry for next generation SBs.

Two new termite-pathogenic species, Ophiocordycepsglobiperitheciata and O.longistipes, are described from Yunnan Province, China. Six-locus (ITS, nrSSU, nrLSU, tef-1α, rpb1 and rpb2) phylogenetic analyses in combination with morphological observations were employed to characterize these two species. Phylogenetically, O.globiperitheciata is most closely related to Hirsutellacryptosclerotium and O.communis, whereas O.longistipes shares a sister relationship with O.fusiformis. However, O.globiperitheciata differs from H.cryptosclerotium by parasitizing Blattodea and producing clavate, unbifurcated stromata. Ophiocordycepsglobiperitheciata is distinguished from O.communis by multiple stromata, shorter asci and ascospores. Ophiocordycepslongistipes differs from O.fusiformis in producing larger stromata, perithecia, asci and ascospores, as well as smaller citriform or oval conidia. Morphological descriptions of the two new species and a dichotomous key to the 19 termite-pathogenic Ophiocordyceps species are presented.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the risk factors for delayed union of extra-articular fractures of the middle and lower third of the tibia treated by locking plate. METHODS: Total of 135 patients of extra-articular fractures of the middle and lower third of the tibia from January 2013 to December 2018 were retrospectively analyzed, including 85 males and 50 females, ranged from 19 to 80 years old. All cases were treated with locking plates. The patients were divided into union group and delayed union group according to the condition of fracture union. The risk factors of delayed healing were determined by univariate analysis of 14 factors that might affect fracture healing first, then the factors with significance were analyzed by binary Logistic regression. RESULTS: There were 13 patients of delayed union, and the rate of delayed union was 9.63%. Univariate analysis showed that delayed union was associated with age, smoking, reduction method, anemia and time of preoperative preparation. Regression analysis showed that age[OR=0.849, 95%CI(0.755, 0.954), P=0.006], smoking[OR=0.020, 95%CI(0.002, 0.193), P=0.001], reduction method[OR=23.924, 95%CI(2.210, 258.943), P=0.009], anemia[OR=0.016, 95%CI(0.001, 0.289), P=0.005] were the contributory factors for delayed union. CONCLUSION: Young age, smoking, closed reduction and anemia are the risk factors for delayed union of extra-articular fractures of the middle and lower third of the tibia treated by locking plate.

Composite solid electrolytes combining the advantages of inorganic and polymer electrolytes are considered as one of the promising candidates for solid-state lithium metal batteries. Compared with ceramic-in-polymer electrolyte, polymer-in-ceramic electrolyte displays excellent mechanical strength to inhibit lithium dendrite. However, polymer-in-ceramic electrolyte faces the challenges of lack of flexibility and severely blocked Li+transport. In this study, we prepared polymer-in-ceramic film utilizing ultra-high molecular weight polymers and ceramic particles to combine flexibility and mechanical strength. Meanwhile, the ionic conductivity of polymer-in-ceramic electrolytes was improved by adding excess lithium salt in polymer matrix to form polymer-in-salt structure. The obtained film shows high stiffness (10.5 MPa), acceptable ionic conductivity (0.18 mS cm-1) and high flexibility. As a result, the corresponding lithium symmetric cell stably cycles over 800 h and the corresponding LiFePO4cell provides a discharge capacity of 147.7 mAh g-1at 0.1 C without obvious capacity decay after 145 cycles.

The demand for Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) has significantly grown in the last decade due to their extensive use electric vehicles. To further advance the commercialization of LIBs for various applications, there is a pressing need to develop electrode materials with enhanced performance. The porous microsphere morphology LiNixMn2-xO4(LNMO) is considered to be an effective material with both high energy density and excellent rate performance. Nevertheless, LNMO synthesis technology still has problem such as long reaction time, high energy consumption and environmental pollution. Herein, LNMO microsphere was successfully synthesized with short precursors reaction time (18 s) at 40 °C without using chelating agent by microreaction technology combined solid-state lithiation. The optimized LNMO cathode shows microsphere (∼8µm) morphology stacked by nano primary particles, with abundant mesoporous and fully exposed low-energy plane. The electrochemical analysis indicates that the optimized LNMO cathode demonstrates 97.33% capacity retention even after 200 cycles at 1C. Additionally, the material shows a highly satisfactory discharge capacity of 92.3 mAh·g-1at 10C. Overall, microreaction technology is anticipated to offer a novel approach in the synthesis of LNMO cathode materials with excellent performance.

In order to better manage the peeling degree and avoid unnecessary losses, the current work aimed to explore the peeling mechanism of a novel peeling technology, high-humidity hot air impingement blanching (HHAIB). The relationships between HHAIB peeling performance and the changes in skin temperature, skin structure, water state, pectin fractions content, and skin mechanical properties of tomatoes were analyzed. Results showed, after HHAIB treatment, the epicuticular wax was disrupted, the skin exhibited more and longer random cracks, the degradation of inner skin tissue was observed by transmission electron microscopy, the free water percentage increased resulting in water loss in the whole tomato, the water-soluble pectin contents decreased in tomato fleshes, while the contents of chelate-soluble pectin and sodium-carbonate-soluble pectin increased. HHAIB heating reduced the elongation at break, and increased Young's Modulus of tomato peel. This study revealed the HHAIB peeling mechanism and provided new insights for developing HHAIB peeling technology.

Background: Prostate cancer rates have been steadily increasing in recent years. As high-precision radiation therapy methods, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) and carbon-ion radiation therapy (CIRT) have unique advantages. Analyzing the dosimetric differences between SBRT and CIRT in the treatment of localized prostate cancer can help provide patients with more accurate, individualized treatment plans. Methods: We selected computed tomography positioning images and the contours of target volumes of 16 patients with localized prostate cancer who received radiotherapy. We delineated the organs at risk (OARs) on the CyberKnife (CK) treatment planning system (TPS) MultiPlan4.0, which were imported into the CIRT uniform scanning TPS HIMM-1 ci-Plan. Two treatment plans, SBRT and CIRT, were designed for the same patient, and we used SPSS 22.0 for the statistical analysis of data. Results: Both SBRT and CIRT plans met the prescribed dose requirements. In terms of target volume exposure dose, D2 (P<0.001), D5 (P<0.001), D50 (P<0.001), D90 (P=0.029), D95 (P<0.001), D98 (P<0.001), and Dmean (P<0.001) under SBRT were significantly higher than those under CIRT; the conformity index (CI) under SBRT was significantly better than that under CIRT (P<0.001); the target volume coverage rate (V95%) and dose homogeneity index (HI) under CIRT were significantly better than those under SBRT (P<0.001). In terms of OAR exposure dosage, the Dmax of the bladder and rectum under SBRT was significantly lower than that under CIRT (P<0.001), but Dmean was in the other direction; the exposure dose of the intestinal tract under CIRT was significantly lower than that under SBRT (P<0.05); Dmax of the femoral head under CIRT was significantly lower than that under SBRT (P<0.05), and there was no statistical difference between them at other doses. Conclusions: In this study, we found that when CIRT was used for treating localized prostate cancer, the dose distribution in target volume was more homogeneous and the coverage rate was higher; the average dose of OARs was lower. SBRT had a better CI and higher dose in target volume; the dose hotspot was lower in OARs. It is important to comprehensively consider the dose relationship between local tumor and surrounding tissues when selecting treatment plans.

Cardiovascular complications of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) threaten the health and life of numerous individuals. Recently, growth factor receptor-binding protein 10 (GRB10) was found to play a pivotal role in vascular complications of T2DM, which participates in the regulation of lipid metabolism of T2DM patients. The genetic variation of GRB10 rs1800504 is closely related to the risk of coronary heart disease in patients with T2DM. The development of GRB10 as a key mediator in the association of lipid metabolism with cardiovascular complications in T2DM is detailed in and may provide new potential concerns for the study of cardiovascular complications in T2DM patients.

DNA damage repair (DDR) is essential for maintaining genome integrity and modulating cancer risk, progression, and therapeutic response. DDR defects are common among non-small lung cancer (NSCLC), resulting in new challenge and promise for NSCLC treatment. Thus, a thorough understanding of the molecular characteristics of DDR in NSCLC is helpful for NSCLC treatment and management. Here, we systematically analyzed the relationship between DDR alterations and NSCLC prognosis, and successfully established and validated a six-DDR gene prognostic model via LASSO Cox regression analysis based on the expression of prognostic related DDR genes, CDC25C, NEIL3, H2AFX, NBN, XRCC5, RAD1. According to this model, NSCLC patients were classified into high-risk subtype and low-risk subtype, each of which has significant differences between the two subtypes in clinical features, molecular features, immune cell components, gene mutations, DDR pathway activation status and clinical outcomes. The high-risk patients was characterized with worse prognosis, lower proportion and number of DDR mutations, unique immune profile and responsive to immunetherapy. And the low-risk patients tend to have superior survival, while being less responsive to immunotherapy and more sensitive to treatment with DNA-damaging chemotherapy drugs. Overall, this molecular classification based on DDR expression profile enables hierarchical management of patients and personalized clinical treatment, and provides potential therapeutic targets for NSCLC.

In the current work, the reactions of [60]fullerene with alkynes promoted by OH- (base) are addressed. The treatment of C60 with alkynes in the presence of TBAOH produces alkynylation products (R-C60-H) with high selectivity in o-DCB at 100 °C. Plausible reaction mechanisms were proposed. This work provides a convenient and environmental friendly method for the functionalization of fullerenes.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) manifests as gastrointestinal tumors with high intratumoral heterogeneity. Recent studies have demonstrated that CRC may consist of tumor cells with different consensus molecular subtypes (CMS). The advancements in single-cell RNA sequencing have facilitated the development of gene regulatory networks to decode key regulators for specific cell types. Herein, we comprehensively analyzed the CMS of CRC patients by using single-cell RNA-sequencing data. CMS for all malignant cells were assigned using CMScaller. Gene set variation analysis showed pathway activity differences consistent with those reported in previous studies. Cell-cell communication analysis confirmed that CMS1 was more closely related to immune cells, and that monocytes and macrophages play dominant roles in the CRC tumor microenvironment. On the basis of the constructed gene regulation networks (GRNs) for each subtype, we identified that the critical transcription factor ERG is universally activated and upregulated in all CMS in comparison with normal cells, and that it performed diverse roles by regulating the expression of different downstream genes. In summary, molecular subtyping of single-cell RNA-sequencing data for colorectal cancer could elucidate the heterogeneity in gene regulatory networks and identify critical regulators of CRC.

BACKGROUND: Currently, there is a lack of sepsis screening tools that can be widely used worldwide. Pulmonary sepsis can be of sufficient concern to physicians due to their noticeable symptoms, which usually rely less on screening tools. AIM: To investigate the efficiency of the international normalized ratio (INR) for the early rapid recognition of adult nonpulmonary infectious sepsis. METHODS: This is a prospective observational study. A total of 108 sepsis patients and 106 nonsepsis patients were enrolled according to relevant inclusion and exclusion criteria. Commonly used clinical indicators, such as white blood cell, neutrophil count, lymphocyte count, neutrophil-lymphocyte count ratio (NLCR), platelets (PLT), prothrombin time, INR, activated partial thromboplastin time, and quick Sequential "Sepsis-related" Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA) scores were recorded within 24 h after admission. The diagnostic performances of these clinical indicators were analyzed and compared through multivariate logistic regression analysis, Spearman correlation, and receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. RESULTS: The INR value of the sepsis group was significantly higher than that of the nonsepsis group. INR has superior diagnostic efficacy for sepsis, with an area under the curve value of 0.918, when those preexisting diseases which significantly affect coagulation function were excluded. The diagnostic efficacy of the INR was more significant than that of NLCR, PLT, and qSOFA (P < 0.05). Moreover, INR levels of 1.17, 1.20, and 1.22 could be used to categorize the relative risk of nonpulmonary infections sepsis into three categories: low, medium and high risk, respectively. CONCLUSION: The INR is a promising and easily available biomarker for diagnosis, and it can be used as one of the indicators for early screening of adult nonpulmonary infectious sepsis. When its value is higher than the optimal cutoff value (1.22), high vigilance is required for adult nonpulmonary infectious sepsis.

BACKGROUND: Tribble pseudokinase 3 (TRIB3) plays a key role in regulating the malignancy of many tumors. This study examined its function in cancer cells and explored the potential mechanisms of action. METHODS: The expression of TRIB3 was examined in hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. A TRIB3 lentivirus with a flag label was constructed and transfected into Huh7 and Hep3B human hepatoma cell lines to generate cells that stably overexpress TRIB3. A small interfering RNA (siRNA) was designed to knockdown TRIB3 mRNA in HepG2 and Huh7. Cell viability and cell colony formation assays were conducted. Flow cytometry was performed to assess the cell cycle in cells overexpressing TRIB3. Western blotting were performed to examine the expression of (Mitogen-activated protein kinase, MAPKK) (MEK), phosphorylated-MEK (p-MEK), extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), and p-MEK in cells with TRIB3 knockdown. The correlation between TRIB3 and SMARCD3 was assessed using co-immunoprecipitation assays and immunofluorescence. RESULTS: TRIB3 was significantly overexpressed in advanced grade HCC tissues and was closely correlated with poor prognosis. TRIB3 overexpression promoted the cell growth and cell cycle but had little effect on migration capabilities in Huh7 and Hep3B cells. Conversely, knockdown of TRIB3 had slow down the cell growth in Huh7 and HepG2 cells detected by CCK8 and colony formation assay. The expression of MEK and ERK at both the protein and mRNA levels were downregulated when TRIB3 was knocked down. The protein expression of p-ERK and p-MEK were also downregulated upon TRIB3 silencing. SMARCD3 is a transcript factor that is belongs to the SWI/SNF complex and has been shown to regulate many genes. Indeed, co-immunoprecipitation assays demonstrated that TRIB3 interacts with SMARCD3 in the nucleus, suggesting that it may regulate TRIB3 in HCCs. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that TRIB3 promotes the malignancy of HCC cells and its expression may be a potential diagnostic biomarker for HCC progression.

Somatic variations are a major source of genetic diversification in asexual plants, and underpin clonal evolution and the breeding of asexual crops. Sweet orange is a model species for studying somatic variation because it reproduces asexually through apomixis and is propagated asexually through grafting. To dissect the genomic basis of somatic variation, we de novo assembled a reference genome of sweet orange with an average of three gaps per chromosome and a N50 contig of 24.2 Mb, as well as six diploid genomes of somatic mutants of sweet oranges. We then sequenced 114 somatic mutants with an average genome coverage of 41×. Categorization of the somatic variations yielded insights into the single-nucleotide somatic mutations, structural variations and transposable element (TE) transpositions. We detected 877 TE insertions, and found TE insertions in the transporter or its regulatory genes associated with variation in fruit acidity. Comparative genomic analysis of sweet oranges from three diversity centres supported a dispersal from South China to the Mediterranean region and to the Americas. This study provides a global view on the somatic variations, the diversification and dispersal history of sweet orange and a set of candidate genes that will be useful for improving fruit taste and flavour.

BACKGROUND: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play vital roles in the development and progression of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC); however, the role of most lncRNAs in NSCLC remains unknown. This study explored the clinical significance, biological function and underlying mechanism of lnc-GAN1 in NSCLC. METHODS: With a custom lncRNA microarray we found that lnc-GAN1 is markedly downregulated in NSCLC tissues. Then lnc-GAN1 expression level was measured using qRT-PCR in NSCLC tissues and cell lines. Survival was assessed using the Kaplan-Meier method. The biological functions of lnc-GAN1 in lung cancer cells were evaluated in vitro and in vivo. RNA fluorescence in situ hybridization and subcellular localization assays revealed the subcellular distribution of lnc-GAN1 in cells. Bioinformatic analysis was adopted to predict miRNAs and signaling pathways regulated by lnc-GAN1. RNA immunoprecipitation and Dual-luciferase reporter assays were used to assess the interaction between lnc-GAN1 and miR-26a-5p in lung cancer cells. RESULTS: lnc-GAN1 is downregulated in HCC tissues and associated with larger tumor size and poor overall survival and disease-free survival; its ectopic expression suppresses cell proliferation, colony formation, and cell cycle progression and induces apoptosis in NSCLC cells; it also inhibits tumor growth in the NSCLC xenograft model. We further proved that lnc-GAN1 is localized in cytoplasm and transcribed independently from its parental gene GAN. Mechanistically, lnc-GAN1 acts as a sponge for miR-26a-5p by two seed sequences, and the two non-coding RNAs have a negative relationship in NSCLC tissues; we further prove that PTEN is a direct target of miR-26a-5p and lnc-GAN1 inhibits cell cycle signaling pathway by activating PTEN, whose expression level correlated negatively with miR-26a-5p level but positively with lnc-GAN1 level in NSCLC samples. CONCLUSIONS: Lnc-GAN1 is downregulated and associated with poor survival of NSCLC patients, and mechanistically acts as a tumor suppressor via sponging and inhibiting miR-26a-5p to upregulate PTEN. This study provides a potential prognostic biomarker and treatment target for NSCLC.

Coal bumps, coal and gas bursts are currently the main threats to coal mine safety in China. The physical properties of coal are important determining factors for the occurrence of coal bumps or coal and gas bursts. A series of experiments using mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), nitrogen adsorption (NA) and carbon dioxide adsorption (CA) were employed to investigate the pore size distributions (PSDs) of bump-prone coal and gas-outburst coal. Considering the influence of coal matrix compressibility on the MIP experimental data, the MIP data should be considered in combination with NA and CA testing data. The dominant pores of gas-outburst coal are different from those of bump-prone coal. The PSDs of coal samples have multifractal characteristics. However, the multifractal characteristics of two types of coal are different. (Answer to question 1, reviewer 2). A comparison of the multifractal parameters indicated that Xin Zhou Yao (XZY) coal samples have a higher spatial heterogeneity and complexity of their pore size distribution, while Zhao Ge Zhuang (ZGZ) coal samples have a lower heterogeneity and pore connectivity, which may hinder smooth gas flow and lead to a localized collection of gas in coal seams.

To study the influence of the pore structure of cement-based materials on macroscopic features (gas permeability), mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) and nitrogen adsorption (NA) were applied to 8 groups of paste and mortar samples (including adding mineral admixtures or not and standard or sealed curing conditions). Pore size distribution has a great influence on gas permeability. By calculating pore surface fractal dimensions based on Zhang's fractal model, the obvious fractal characteristics of micropores (<100 nm) and macropores (> 105 nm) have been found. The pore diameter of the paste is mostly distributed in the micropores, and the average critical pore diameter is 82 nm. For mortar, the pore diameter is mostly distributed in the micropores and transition pores, and the average critical pore diameter is 121 nm, which means that the seepage pore diameters of the paste and mortar are 82 nm and 121 nm, respectively. The pore surface fractal dimensions of the visible pores are larger than those of the micropores, and there is an inverse relationship between the pore surface fractal dimensions and gas permeability. In addition to the 1,9- and 1,7-C60 adducts, the 1,23-C60 adducts are an important type of C60 derivatives, where the property of the fullerene compounds is significantly affected by the addition pattern. However, much less is known on the adducts due to the less availability of the compounds. Herein, the hydroxide-promoted reactions of C60 with 2-alkylmalonates are reported, which produce the 1,23-C60 adducts with improved efficiency. The reactions were studied with the in situ vis-NIR spectral measurement in order to probe into the reaction mechanism. The obtained 1,23-C60 adducts exhibited good thermal stability and better solubility with respect to the 1,7-isomers.
