Presentación de un caso con Absceso Retrofaríngeo en el adulto / Retropharyngeal abscess in an adult. Case Report

Se reporta el caso de un paciente de 52 años de edad que acude al Cuerpo de Guardia de Otorrinolaringología del Hospital General Docente Dr Ernesto Guevara de La Serna, con antecedentes de hipertensión, diabetes tipo II (insulino dependiente) de 20 años de evolución, con insuficiencia renal crónica y el antecedente de traumatismo faríngeo de 20 días de evolución, al que se le diagnosticó un absceso retrofaríngeo. La enfermedad se presentó de forma atípica, manifestándose solamente marcada obstrucción nasal y discreta disfagia. El drenaje se realizó exitosamente por vía orofaríngea, administrándose antibióticos hasta la recuperación del paciente(AU)

A case of a 52 year-old male patient attending the Emergency Room of Dr Ernesto Guevara Hospital is reported. He has antecedents of hypertension, 20 years of evolution of type II diabetes (insulin dependent), chronic renal failure, and a pharyngeal traumatism of 20 days of evolution; he is diagnosed with a retropharyngeal abscess. This sickness began in an atypical way, only showing a great nasal obstruction and a discrete dysphagia. The oropharyngeal drainage was successfully accomplished, administering antibiotics to the patient until he was recovered(AU)

Otitis externa maligna del diabético: presentación de un caso / Malignant external otitis of diabetic patients: a thinking entity

Se presentó un paciente masculino de 63 años de edad, diabético tipo 2 de más de 20 años, el cual presentó una infección en el conducto auditivo externo derecho. Cuando acudió a la atención especializada ya presentaba granulomas a este nivel con extensión del proceso hacia regiones preauricular, retroauricular y cuello, gran compromiso del estado general y cifras altas de glicemia. Se describió el manejo del mismo, la gran destrucción de tejidos vecinos causada por el proceso séptico, así como los tratamientos utilizados tanto médicos como quirúrgicos hasta su egreso 69 días después, curado. Se concluyó que es importante el diagnóstico y tratamiento oportuno de las infecciones del oído en el paciente diabético con vistas a evitar las complicaciones que la misma puede provocar(AU)

A masculine patient of 63 years old with diabetes type 2 for more than 20 years who presented an infection in right external auditive duct. When he assited to specialized attention, he already presented granulomas at this level with the process extended to preauricular, retroauricular regions and neck, a great compromise of general state and high figures of glycaemia. It was described the management of him, the great destruction of surrounding tissue caused by septic process as well as medical and surgical treatments until his recuperation 69 days after. It was concluded that it is important the early diagnosis and treatment of ear infections in diabetic patients in order to prevent the complications thar can be provoked(AU)
