RESUMO

Leadership and its connection with social sustainability are frequently prescribed for effective management. Integrating self-leadership among the employees is an emerging area to focus on empowering an organization. The principal objective of this study was to empirically investigate the impact of self-leadership on normative commitment and work performance through the mediating role of work engagement. This phenomenon of self-leadership was explained by using the theoretical lens of the social cognitive theory and intrinsic motivation theory. Data was collected from 318 employees who worked in the telecom sector in Pakistan and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) AMOS. The findings revealed that in the presence of self-leadership, employee's work engagement, commitment to the organization, and overall work performance elevated significantly. Furthermore, the results also illustrated the occurrence of two significant mediating paths. First, the mediating role of work engagement in the relationship between self-leadership and normative commitment, and second, the mediation of work engagement in the relationship between self-leadership and work performance. The findings of the study significantly contribute practically, and theoretically to the existing literature.

RESUMO

Organ transplantation is considered an alternative treatment to save lives or to improve the quality of life and is a successful method for the treatment of patients with end-stage organ diseases. The main objective of the current study was to explore the determinants of the attitudes and willingness to communicate the posthumous organ donation decisions to the families. Questionnaires were used to test the hypothesized relationships. The results confirmed altruism, knowledge, empathy, and self-identity as the antecedents to attitude. We also found perceived behavioral control, moral norms, and attitude as significant antecedents to the willingness to donate organs after death. The results of the study also indicated that those who were willing to sign the donor card were also willing to communicate their decision to their families. Religiosity moderated the relationship between willingness to donate and signing the donor card, and it strengthened the relationship. The findings of this study would provide insight into the factors which can influence posthumous organ donation among university students in Pakistan.

RESUMO

Green operations of organizations and enhancement of corporate social responsibility hinges upon leaders. This study investigated the influential role performed by environmentally specific servant leadership in provoking voluntary pro-environmental behavior of employees. The findings illuminate a serial chain mediation model that originates as a result of environmentally specific servant leadership and leads toward psychological empowerment, and organizational identity, ultimately leading toward voluntary pro-environmental behavior. Data from the textile sector of Pakistan uncovered that environmentally specific servant leadership prompted the voluntary pro-environmental behavior of employees. Moreover, environmentally specific servant leadership was significantly linked with voluntary pro-environmental behavior through psychological empowerment. The study supports the serial mediation of psychological empowerment and organizational identity in stirring voluntary pro-environmental behavior. An organizational psychological mechanism has been unraveled that can help organizations achieve a high level of sustainability and can serve as a catalyst for organizational green operations.

RESUMO

Given the sensitive nature of ethics research, the presence of social desirability bias (SDB) threatens the validity of research findings. As ethics studies often overlook this bias, we aimed to provide evidence that SDB varies across individual and situational factors. We thus investigated the influence of socio-demographic factors and survey modes on SDB. A total of 348 working adults were randomly chosen to participate in either an on-line or off-line survey containing eight versions of the Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability (MCSD) scale. The reliabilities for the eight versions ranged from 0.35 to 0.81. Statistical tests revealed that different socio-demographic factors influence different versions of the MCSD scale. The results also showed that using on-line surveys minimizes SDB. This study provides practical implications and suggestions for future research.

RESUMO

Organ transplantation is a common procedure in many countries, but it can still be hampered by a lack of donors. Many reasons exist for people's hesitation to sign the donor card and this study explores the factors affecting posthumous organ donations motivation. The objectives of the study were to examine the role of knowledge, empathy, and attitude toward willingness to donate in posthumous organ donation decisions. We also examined whether education moderated the relationship between knowledge and attitude to donate. For this purpose, a survey was conducted among university students in public and private universities from Lahore, Pakistan. Structural Equation Modelling using the SmartPLS (3.0) was used to test the hypotheses proposed for this study. Empathy toward posthumous organ donation and the knowledge were positively related to the respondent's attitude and attitude was positively related to willingness to donate organs posthumously. The results showed that education level did not moderate the relationship between attitude and knowledge. Future research may incorporate other factors such as religious affairs and cultural values for developing a socially appropriate model.
