RESUMO

Machilus thunbergii has a history of traditional applications including treating dyspepsia, apoplexy, headaches, abdominal pain, abdominal distension, and leg edema [1]. It is also employed for alleviating allergies, inflammation, pain relief, promoting blood circulation, addressing costal chondritis, and sinusitis [2]. Research into the chemical composition of M. thunbergii has revealed the presence of lignans, flavonoids, lactones, and essential oils [1,[3], [4], [5]. While some investigations have explored the inhibitory effects of extracts and lignan compounds from this species on NO production [6], [7], [8], there has been no research into the flavonoids isolated from this plant and their potential for inhibiting NO production, given our reachable referencing. The ethyl acetate (EtOAc) soluble fraction of M. thunbergii leaves was subjected to column chromatography (CC) using silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 for compound isolation. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data primarily facilitated the determination of isolated compound structures. Anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO) production in macrophage RAW264.7 cells. Anti-inflammatory activity-guided fractionation led to the isolation of twelve secondary metabolites (1-12). The compounds were identified as quercetin (1), kaempferol (2), rhamnetin (3), quercitrin (4), hyperoside (5), reynoutrin (6), guaijaverin (7), afzelin (8), astragalin (9), rutin (10), kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside (11), and rhamnetin-3-O-rutinoside (12). Compounds 3, 5, 6, 9, 11, and 12 were isolated from M. thunbergii for the first time. Evaluation against LPS-induced NO production in macrophage RAW264.7 cells showed that 1-3 exhibited potent inhibitory activity with IC50 values of 15.45, 25.44, and 19.82 µM, respectively. Compounds 4-9 demonstrated IC50 values ranging from 42.15 to 67.42 µM, while 10-12 exhibited inactivity (IC50 > 100 µM).

Objectives: The lack of cognitive assessment tools suitable for people with minimal formal education is a barrier to identify cognitive impairment in Vietnam. Our aims were to (i) evaluate the feasibility of conducting the Montreal Cognitive Assessment-Basic (MoCA-B) and Informant Questionnaire On Cognitive Decline in the Elderly (IQCODE) remotely on the Vietnamese older adults, (ii) examine the association between the two tests, (iii) identify demographic factors correlated with these tools. Methods: The MoCA-B was adapted from the original English version, and a remote testing procedure was conducted. One hundred seventy-three participants aged 60 and above living in the Vietnamese southern provinces were recruited via an online platform during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: IQCODE results showed that the proportions of rural participants classified as having mild cognitive impairment and dementia were substantially higher than those in urban areas. Levels of education and living areas were associated with IQCODE scores. Education attainment was also the main predictor of MoCA-B scores (30% of variance explained), with an average of 10.5 points difference between those with no formal education and those who attended university. Conclusions: It is feasible to administer the IQCODE and MoCA-B remotely in the Vietnamese older population. Education attainment played a stronger role in predicting MoCA-B scores than IQCODE, suggesting the influence of this factor on MoCA-B scores. Further study is needed to develop socio-culturally appropriate cognitive screening tests for the Vietnamese population.

RESUMO

In this study, a meta-heuristic algorithm, named The Planet Optimization Algorithm (POA), inspired by Newton's gravitational law is proposed. POA simulates the motion of planets in the solar system. The Sun plays the key role in the algorithm as at the heart of search space. Two main phases, local and global search, are adopted for increasing accuracy and expanding searching space simultaneously. A Gauss distribution function is employed as a technique to enhance the accuracy of this algorithm. POA is evaluated using 23 well-known test functions, 38 IEEE CEC benchmark test functions (CEC 2017, CEC 2019) and three real engineering problems. The statistical results of the benchmark functions show that POA can provide very competitive and promising results. Not only does POA require a relatively short computational time for solving problems, but also it shows superior accuracy in terms of exploiting the optimum.

In this paper, a new method in forecasting the horizontal displacement of diaphragm wall (D.W.) for high-rise buildings is introduced. A new stochastic optimizer, called Planet Optimization Algorithm (P.O.A.), is employed to assess how proper finite element (F.E.) simulation is against field data. The process is adopted for a real phased excavation measured at the field. To automatically run the iterative optimization tasks, a source code is constructed directly in the Geotechnical Engineering Software (PLAXIS) by using Python to ensure that the operation between optimization algorithm and F.E. simulations are smooth to guarantee the accuracy of the complex calculation for the soil problem. The proposed process consists of two steps. (1) The parameters will be optimized at the early phases of the excavation. (2) The responses of D.W. displacements are forecasted at the subsequent phases. The aim of the process is to predict the displacements of D.W. of the building from the result of the nearby excavation or to provide early warning about the risks of excavation that may happen under vital phases. The proposed procedure also provides an effective method for optimization-based soil parameters updating in real engineering practice.
