RESUMO

The purpose of the article is to present an updated literature review, as well as describe our approach to rehabilitation and return to sports following hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) with labral repair. A literature review was performed to identify articles published within the last 10 years that were focused on this topic. Relevant articles were reviewed, and reference lists were searched to identify additional articles. Findings were summarized for rehabilitation phases and return-to-sports assessment. Additionally, advanced rehabilitation topics are reviewed. Several systematic reviews and individual case series were identified. There is relative uniformity concerning the use of a four-phase approach for rehabilitation. However, there is inconsistency in terms of timing and criteria for ultimate return to sport. Advanced rehabilitation topics were reviewed, and description of their relevance at various rehabilitation phases was provided. A four-phase approach to rehabilitation following hip arthroscopy for FAI is widely used with general uniformity, although the timing and level of detail concerning assessment and readiness for return to sport are variable. Advanced rehabilitation techniques may be used in select patients returning to high-level activities.

Protected area (PA) networks will remain valuable for conservation, as the global environment changes, if they facilitate the colonization of new regions by species that are shifting their geographical ranges. We tested the extent to which wetland bird species colonizing the UK since 1960 have exploited PAs. Colonization commenced in a PA for all six species that established permanent (greater than 10 years) breeding populations in the UK during this period. Subsequently, birds started to breed outside as well as inside PAs: the colonizing species showing declining fractions of breeding within PAs over time, a trend not seen in already-resident species. PAs were valuable as 'landing pads' for range-shifting species first arriving in a new region, and then as 'establishment centres' from which viable populations spread. Given future projections of range change across a broad range of taxonomic groups, this role for PAs can be expected to become increasingly important.

RESUMO

The Scottish Raptor Monitoring Scheme (SRMS) comprises 7 partner organizations and was established in 2002 after i) the publication of the UK Government's Raptor Working Group Report that made recommendations for enhanced monitoring, ii) increased applied data needs (e.g., for site designation), and iii) concerns for the status of some species. The SRMS has 3 major objectives: i) to facilitate cooperation between parties; ii) to provide robust information on Scottish raptor populations by determining trends in numbers, range, survival, and productivity and understanding the causes of change; and iii) to maintain high and uniform standards for the collection, collation, auditing, and analysis of data and reporting of information. Data are collected for 19 species: 14 diurnal raptors, 4 owls, and 1 corvid, the Common Raven. Here we describe the development of the scheme, challenges, and achievements during its first 4 y, the nature and value of the data collected, and plans for the future.
